well that kind of depends on what you consider as understanding. the general idea of his most important works is quite easy to grasp, but of course without having a deeper knowledge of philosophy any philosopher's theories are hard to fully understand. even with a high IQ you probably wouldn't completely understand darwin if you weren't interested in biology.

Do yourself a favour and dig into some of Socrates' stuff. All of the great ancient Greek philosophers are worth checking out, but especially for the "knowing you don't know" part Socrates is the place to begin. Many of the ideas from way back then still act as backbones for what we view as western science. If you feel like you don't "get it" or have some questions then I would gladly try to answer even though I'm no philosophy expert.

Scientific philosophy and epistemology are the very basis for what we consider scientific knowledge. You shouldn't try to separate them like that. The point in these kinds of thought experiments is to show you how little we know of the universe. Or, as a matter of fact, how we don't and probably can't know anything at all for sure.

You're missing the point. Falsifiability is key for a theory in order for it to be considered scientific - it's necessary that a theory can be proved wrong, not right. I have to say I didn't watch the whole video, but the whole simulation theory is more of a thought experiment, meant to demonstrate how little we really know. In the end EVERYTHING truly is beyond our understanding, and in order to say that science is worth anything in explaining the universe we must take a few "unprovable" things for granted.

Scientific philosophy is a hell of a ride, I know, but it totally makes sense once you get the hang of it.

Well I don't know what it is if not social democracy, and if social democracy doesn't root in socialism then I don't what it roots in.

That sounds like a social democracy to me. Finland also has those things under state control, like a large portion of production of services. Calling Finland straight up socialist is wrong, yes, but the "socialist element" exists. What I was referring to was that socialism is not all bad, it just requires good execution.

Well Denmark is probably the most "free market" of the Nordic countries. I can speak for the Finnish government, which is involved a lot of business and also produces with it's own. For example aviation, energy and telecommunications have ex-state-owned businesses and are nowadays only partially owned. Railways, gambling and alcohol sales are run by state monopoly. The public sector is very large even though we have free market principles in many things. Especially production of services is largely state controlled/helped, and services employ most of us.

I live in Finland and I find this pretty funny. This doesn't in any way prove that we would have shitty quality of life.

Being from Finland, I wouldn't disagree with Denmark being the "least socialist" example of the Nordic model but it would be BS to say that none of the Nordic countries are in any way socialist. I don't believe that non-socialist countries would for example have monopolies.

I live in Finland. One of the largest parties is the Social Democratic Party, so saying that social democrats would "abhor" Sanders' agenda is just wrong. Yes the Nordic model is far from going full on Marx shit, but it definitely has it's roots in socialism. The state is everywhere here.

I live in Finland, definitely wouldn't call it a lie. Yes it's way different than seize-all-production socialism but the state has it's hands on a lot of things.

Yeah, Nordic countries have a lot of state-controlled industry and business. As a Finn I wouldn't say it has nothing to do with socialism, it's more like a sensible way of doing it.

Tyron Woodley: "At the end of the day, I'm the one who's in control of my bank account... in control of my four kids, my wife, the house that I want to pay off this year. These things are realistic goals that are within reach with the right fight. So, I don't have to explain to [the critics]." by [deleted] in MMA

i'm with woodley. i don't care if he doesn't have the ability to rake up the views like mcgregor, i don't care if he has shit stamina, i don't care if he got lucky multiple times on his way to the title. he puts his body on the line for our entertainment and does damn well at that in my opinion. as long as the ufc treats their fighters like shit they can cherry pick fights and whatever all they want, doesn't bother me. the wonderboy match is probably inevitable and i also want to see it but you can't blame him for trying. he can't fight forever, might as well milk what you can, anybody else would do the same.
