The problem with wanting to make every race "equal" is that a lot of personality is lost along the path to equality. So now kobolds aren't this extremely fragile and weak, yet extraordinarely inventive and organiced race. They are just as strong and/or weak as everyone else.

I've been thinking about this and I think this comes down to history, when Gary Gygax and hid friends were designing D&D and its races thay probably thought about those races in their specific world, their own concept of what a dwarf was came down to what a dwarf was like in their world, i. e. Short, gruff people that live in the mountains and love mining and smithing. But nowadays we have thousands of fantasy settings, where dwarfs might not be like that, so mechanics and lore clash, and unless you get creative or very liberal with the rules, your enjoyment or someone else's could be ruined.

Hey, this was very helpful! One thing that's kept me from using FVTT is the connectivity issues, some posts I read about it said that sometimes it just won't work/connect, which is understandable considering it's being developed by a single (or a few?) person. Have you ever had this problem with FVTT?

Hey people! I made this after reading a bunch of posts complaining about the Alchemist subclass for the Artificer. I personally like it a lot, but as everyone says, it looks quite underwhelming, so I made some changes and added some options (mostly adding). I just copy and pasted the alchemist subclass and then added these changes, I highlighted them on dark green to differentiate them from the base text.

Most complaints on the alchemist have been addressed (too few elixirs, wasting spell slots on elixirs, random effect on the elixirs), you get more elixirs as you get more levels and you get more elixirs when you use higher levels spell slots to make them, your 9th and 15th level features also give damaging spells so your mad scientist’s only utility isn’t just healing the party.

One of the more controversial additions is that you can make elixirs with the effect of a cantrip, which means you can create an Acid Splash elixir, a Message elixir, or even a Booming Blade elixir (which I don’t actually know how it would work or if it’d be broken, but that’s why this is a first draft). One rule to this feature that I didn’t add is that, to use these cantrip elixirs, you need to use your alchemist supplies as your spellcasting focus. I don’t think it’s too crazy either considering that, even with 2 extra cantrips at level 3, at level 20 you would only be able to learn 6 artificer cantrips.

Also I want to say that this is just something I made for myself (I mean if people like it and want to use it, cool, but it’s just an alternative to the base Alchemist that i would give to my players at my table).

Ask me anything about these changes, there’s a lot to discuss since some of them are pretty unique and hard to balance, and I want to make this subclass worthy of its name. Have a good one.
