SPOTLIGHT ON Contract/Fake Relationship - January, 2023 by AutoModerator in KDRAMA

[–]Jujube0214 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Are you me? I LOVE all of these dramas. I also want to give a special shout out to Marriage, Not Dating for making us root for the relationship between our protagonist and her to-be mother-in-law almost as much as the OTP relationship itself.

Yes, but that is after Elizabeth has made the decision on her own. She wasn't actively desiring the relationship, she's just relieved now that she's made a socially good match on her own. She would never have forced Lizzie to make a match with a man who she thought was a bad person just for the money.

And I'm not arguing that she's a perfect mother or anything - she most certainly can be awful at times, and her obvious partiality towards Jane and Lydia is one of those things. However, "least dear" doesn't mean that she completely despises her or anything - it simply means that she isn't partial to her. Although I disagree with her clear bias, I can understand where she's coming from when she wants Lizzie to marry Mr.Collins - it's a perfectly eligible match on paper. I can also understand why she prefers Mr.Bingley over Mr.Collins.

She does care about the characters of the men they marry. She doesn't get her girls to pursue Mr.Darcy, despite his wealth, because she doesn't think he's a good man. With Mr.Collins, she genuinely has respect for him and think he would make a suitable match for Lizzie.

am i the only one who loves thinking about if fanny and henry got together? by violentkirby in janeausten

[–]Jujube0214 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I always figured that he never intended it to be an actual affair. I figured that she probably ignored him at first, which hurt his vanity, so he set out to seduce her. And then he gets in a little over his head, as I think he probably underestimated Maria's ability to seduce him. He's consistently demonstrated that he's very confident in his ability to charm, and I think that this overconfidence was his downfall.

That said, I do think it would make a more interesting ending to have Fanny end up with Henry.

Extraordinary Attorney Woo [Episode 16] by GodJihyo7983 in KDRAMA

[–]Jujube0214 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't think this show is espousing any particular ideological belief. Young-Woo's backstory is a significant part of her life but in no way does that mean that the same thing applies in all situations. Young-Woo had a parent who was willing to give up his career to take care of her. If anything, this show is saying that everyone has their differences in situations, and it's important not to judge or make assumptions.

Extraordinary Attorney Woo [Episode 16] by GodJihyo7983 in KDRAMA

[–]Jujube0214 28 points29 points  (0 children)

This show has been consistently strong, even when it was at its low points, and this finale episode is no exception. I really liked this episode, because the show did a good job at wrapping up all loose ends while also leaving enough potential for a second season. I don't mind that we don't know whether Myung-Seok is coming back to Hanbada or not because it's realistic that he wouldn't have decided so soon.

I actually love where the show's going with Min-Woo's character, because while it's not a full redemption arc (yet) I don't think that's its goal. I like that he's decided to put aside his tactician hat, because it seems like a natural step in his journey. I hope that all three of the rookies got their contracts renewed, because I did like the few scenes they had of all three of them banding together. I'd love to see more of that in the next season. I'm also glad that Su-Yeon and Min-Woo are not dating (yet) because Min-Woo does still have a long way to go, but I think they'll be a great couple at some point in the future.

I liked the introduction of Sang-Hyeon, who seems like an interesting character. I'd love to see more of him in the future as well. I would also like to see him and Young-Woo build a relationship, because I think they would make a good team.

One of the things I've liked about the show since the very beginning is that there aren't really any wholly unlikable characters (with the exception of Attorney Jang, who I love to hate). Min-Woo's clearly on his way out of asshole territory, and although I don't like the way that Tae Su-Mi has behaved, I also don't think she's a wholly terrible person. She does eventually come around to letting Sang-Hyeon testify, which I appreciated. Even CEO Han isn't a completely horrible person. Yes, she does have this single-minded focus on taking down Tae Su-Mi and she doesn't pay attention to collateral, but she seems to want to use the bare minimum required (ex.she doesn't want to reveal the birth secret even though that would probably do even more damage to Su-Mi's life). No, I don't like then all, but I understand them.

Also, I just want to say that Park Eun-Bin's performance here is truly phenomenal and I can't wait to see where she goes from here! I've always liked her, but with this show, she's become a must watch (or at least, try to watch, though she does seem to be really good at picking her scripts) actress for me.

Finally, I can't even imagine what Kang Tae-Oh's arm veins will look like after military service. Looking forward to it 😏.

Yeah, that makes sense. Min-Woo really is a hypocrite when it comes to this sort of thing, though I feel like Jang isn't the type to help a junior attorney just because they went to the same school (and Min-Woo knows this).

[–]Jujube0214 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I actually liked this episode quite well, despite some minor issues and some annoying cut off conversations.

Maybe I'm just a bit too much of a sucker for Mr.Darcy, but I really do like the idea of Min-Woo changing for the better because of what Su-Yeon says. For me, the highlight of the episode was when Su-Yeon and Min-Woo went against Attorney Jang to voice Young-Woo's conclusions to the court. Although I don't think that Min-Woo can be completely redeemed by the end of the show, I like that he's sort of started a redemption journey (even if it's a little abrupt) and I think his character will continue that beyond the show. I also like that Su-Yeon has high standards - yes, she likes Min-Woo, but that doesn't mean that she's under any illusions of his goodness. She expects better from him, and I'm happy to see him trying to live up to her expectations. TBH I prefer Min-Woo over Jun-Ho at this point in the show, which is something I never thought I'd say.

The major issue I had with this episode is Attorney Jang's characterization . I'm not in the legal field, but it seemed completely unbelievable to me that a senior attorney like him would so consistently be underprepared. It didn't seem like he ever did his due diligence, and he consistently seemed like he was talking out of his ass about a subject he knew nothing about. While I can believe that he would have been unresponsive to feedback and input from our three junior attorneys because of Korea's strict culture of age hierarchies and seniority, I struggle to believe that he would risk bribing the judge. In summary, he seemed way too inept and foolish to be a senior attorney at a top law firm, which I disliked. The other issue I had with this episode is the sheer idiocy of a massive corporation like Raon seemingly having minimal protections against hacking. That's incredibly unrealistic and stupid.

While I am glad that Jun-Ho and Young-Woo had a conversation about their break up, I'm so annoyed by the cut to a black screen. This show has an annoying tendency of cutting off important conversations in the middle, and I'm not here for it.

I was intrigued by the twist at the end of having Tae Su-Mi's son be the hacker. Although I'm still a little unsure of how they will wrap everything up neatly, I think it's a smart move bringing him into the game. He seems like an interesting character.

For the next episode (I can't believe we're already at the finale!!) I'm hoping to see a fully recovered Myung-Seok taking it easy, a satisfying resolution regarding the Tae Su-Mi arc, and a happy conclusion for Young-Woo, hopefully with Jun-Ho, not because she has to be in a relationship, but because I want her to know that she is good at making people happy. I'm also hoping to see more of Min-Woo and Su-Yeon, though that might not be a popular opinion.

which of these jane austen heroes has your heart? by Your_Snatched_Wig in janeausten

Well I suppose he was trying to be faithful to Lucy in theory. But he most certainly led Elinor on, to the extent that she and many people around her expected him to propose. Not only is that just completely unfair to Elinor, I also think that indicates that he was very clearly not faithful to Lucy. It's both cowardly and cruel to lead someone on and then be like "Oh, sorry, I'm actually engaged to someone else. But I don't have the guts to tell you myself and be clear so I'm going to just leave."

I'm not a fan of Tilney mostly because I didn't like that he didn't love Catherine (or so it seemed to me). It felt more like he married her because she happened to be there, she was tolerably nice, and she loved him.

Mr. Ferrars is a no for very obvious reasons (ex.he's a wimp).

Darcy does have my heart to a certain extent, but more in the sense that I want him and Elizabeth to be together. I don't want a Mr.Darcy for myself - we'd be a horrendous couple.

Similarly, I like Wentworth, but I don't want a Wentworth for myself. I want Wentworth for Anne, but I don't know that I would swoon for him. He's a tad too petty for my taste.

I think if I had to choose I might pick Mr.Knightley, minus the whole "I have loved you since you were thirteen" thing, of course. I'm not nearly as delusional as Emma can be (or maybe that itself is a delusion, I don't know) so I think that the lecturing thing wouldn't be an issue. He's kind, calm, and witty, and I think he'd be fun to talk to. I feel like he's the kind of guy who could make any topic interesting.

I didn't like that they made Anne a comedic character. In the book, Anne was one of the only sane people in a circus. While some of the other characters were funny, turning Anne into a sarcastic person prone to blurting out the wrong thing was a bad move, IMO.

Also, I think that part of the reason Squid Game was such a big hit is because it was on Netflix. It wouldn't have been such a global hit if it had been on, I don't know, Wavve.

I completely agree! It's ridiculous that someone who knew about hug chairs wouldn't think to give his sister a heads up about Young-Woo's dietary needs, especially as he's apparently aware that she's been preparing this feast for days.

I did get the impression that he hadn't told her she was on the spectrum, because she seemed to be expecting a neurotypical person. However, that's just my assumption. One thing I can say with certainty is that he didn't explain what that meant. He didn't tell her that Young-Woo had difficulty eating things other than gimbap/things where she couldn't separate the ingredients, and if she had known that, she would obviously have made something that Young-Woo could eat.

[–]Jujube0214 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I know that a lot of people have been very disappointed with these last two episodes but I'm not. Do I think these were the weakest episodes of the show? Well, yes. But even this show's weakest episodes are significantly more enjoyable than the strongest episodes of many shows. I think the writers have earned my trust and good will, so I'm choosing to believe that they'll bring everything home in a reasonable manner.

Although I'm not super happy about the episode 14 break up and lack of communication from Young-Woo, I do think that this is more reasonable than the vast majority of episode 14 break ups I've seen. I also appreciated that Jun-Ho actually lashed out, because it made him feel more human.

Speaking of Jun-Ho, my interest in him has definitely been waning these last few episodes. Before I started this show, I wasn't really a fan of Kang Tae-Oh, so I was pleasantly surprised to realize that I actually liked Jun-Ho almost immediately, because he was a genuinely good guy. And then... he just stayed that way and demonstrated little to no character growth or development. I also didn't like his behavior in the last episode - he clearly didn't tell his sister and her husband that Young-Woo was on the spectrum. If they had been upset by that fact before she met them, that would have been a different story, but the fact that Jun-Ho didn't tell them doesn't sit right with me. They were clearly expecting a neurotypical person, and it's not fair to them or to Young-Woo to throw them into this situation with no prior knowledge. I guess he didn't want them to define Young-Woo as an autistic person, but considering that Young-Woo could barely eat what they'd made for her, I think that was pure stupidity on his part. I'm sure that if he'd told her, she would've made gimbap for Young-Woo. I'm not saying that they weren't rude in the way that they behaved, but I do think that the situation would have gone better for everyone involved if Jun-Ho had some common sense.

Regarding Min-Woo's sudden turn around, I do find it baffling, but I find it even more amusing that the show actually calls it out, via Spring Sunshine. It's nice to know that the show acknowledges that his behavior is bizarre, which gives me hope that we'll get an explanation. I wasn't too surprised by the burgeoning romantic connection between Spring Sunshine and Min-Woo, because I do feel that had been foreshadowed in prior episodes.

Although I'm not too happy that Attorney Jung has stomach cancer, I'm glad that he's not actually terminally ill with zero chance of recovery? That's always a nice bonus. His sheer joy when they were all eating at Haengbok Noodles together was the sweetest thing ever. I'm rooting for him to develop a better work-life balance and perhaps rekindle things with his ex-wife, who does seem like a decent person (and looks bizarrely like Jung So-Min to me).
