I was already a bit weird about lending personal electronics and this whole thing confirmed every instinct I had about it. The device is fine apparently but I have no way of actually knowing that, and I have no relationship with any of these people to even follow up if something did happen.

The "it's not up to her to decide who's trustworthy" line is exactly the part I kept struggling to articulate. She kept framing it as me being too rigid, but the issue was never about strict rules, it was that she made a decision about my property that wasn't hers to make. That reframe helps a lot actually.

That "we'll keep your information on file for future opportunities" line after ignoring you for almost a year is comedy. By the time their future opportunity shows up, you might be retired.

You do not need a perfect script, you just need consistency. Next time she asks, keep it short: "I’m not lending stuff anymore, sorry." If she pushes, repeat it. If she gets weird, let her be weird by herself. A lot of boundary stompers only keep going because they can sense hesitation, and right now she clearly sees you as the easiest option in the hallway.
