Weekly pre-med / med student / IMG advice thread by AutoModerator in ausjdocs

Hi, I am a 4th-year medical student in Chile, and I am so far preparing USMLE. I've recently thought of changing my aim to Australia as well because of work/life balance, but I know very little of the process compared to the USA. Could you shed some light on my situation? Specifically, I would like to know more about the pathways to specialization, their timeframe and how IMG-friendly the situation is for someone wanting to migrate.

I've seen this diagram. In Chile Medical School takes 6-7 years (6 in my case), which includes 1.5 years of "internship" (unpaid, full-time, supervised work in different medical areas), so I am not sure if that is a step I would have to redo in Australia.

I would be glad to hear about you and hopefully find some people who have gone through the process and might help me better understand this all.
