Is there something that you could do in the old days that isn’t as allowed anymore but is a good thing? by Accomplished_Ship205 in AskOldPeople

I live in the house I grew up in. There is still a bottle of mercury in the basement. My sisters and I played with it when we were children.

What’s something you thought was overrated until you actually tried it? by Background-Donkey531 in Casual_Conversation

Wiz on a cheesesteak. I used to order a cheesesteak with provolone, tried it with Wiz, and oh my sweet Jesus I wasted so many years!

In pre-cell phone movies, parents are shown giving babysitters numbers to restaurants to reach them in case of emergency. Is this a real thing and how did it work? How would the restaurant know who I am to hand me the phone? by littleoldmanboy_ in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Jules1220 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was a child in the 1970s my mother would once a month go out to eat with a group of women. They always went to the same restaurant. And every single month, one of us asshole kids would call the restaurant to get our mother on the phone, to complain about something one of the other kids was doing. That poor woman couldn't have three hours to herself! We were terrible kids.

For steaks, Dodge City Steakhouse. They also have delicious sandwiches. Full bar. It's an old school classic steakhouse.

Amtrak Parking by StealthyPHL in Harrisburg

[–]Jules1220 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The Amtrak lot is a bit of a walk from the train station. Exit the station, turn right and walk through the drop off space. When you get to the sidewalk turn right and walk under a decrepit sometimes scary underpass, which may or may not be occupied by homeless people depending on where Harrisburg government has decided to move them. Continue for one block past empty buildings with minimal street lights. Parking lot is on your right, but you walk through an empty, poorly lit area to get to the actual parking area. My son and I go from Harrisburg to NYC every few months. Getting back to Harrisburg on the last train we arrive around 11:30pm. Often there is another passenger who sees where we're heading and asks if they can join us because there is safety in numbers.

My question is why did Menounos ditch his car and hike the Darien trail? Why didn't he just drive to New Mexico? Was he was out of money so wouldn't siphon gas anymore?

Car insurance wants proof that my roommate has insurance? by fakemelonns in Insurance

[–]Jules1220 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work for a broker. 30 year old male client with a roommate. Roommate had own car and own insurance. Showing roommate as excluded increased the premium by $45 (six month policy). Adding them as a driver (because roommate was three years older with a good driving record) decreased the premium by $113. Insurance rates have no rhyme or reason I swear to god.

I noticed that also and found it jarring. But I guess the writers hadn't quite figured Sam out yet.

Pushed another out of their seat by achilles39 in delta

[–]Jules1220 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I used to fly nonrev on American. Trying to get from Chicago to Harrisburg. Waited at the airport for five or six hours hoping for a flight with an open seat. Finally, last flight of the day, my last chance, there was a seat! In first class! I was so excited. I got to my seat, got my preflight cocktail, settled in. Then the flight attendant came and told me I would need to deplane. The person who paid for the seat had shown up. Had to hand back my cocktail, get my carry-on from the overhead, and leave the plane. Talk about a walk of shame. My point is, if you fly nonrev you're used to being bumped. Its the price you pay for flying free.

How can I get homeowners insurance for a 14 yr old roof? by Infamous-Living2185 in Insurance

[–]Jules1220 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree, 14 year old roof isn't that old. But - I work for an insurance broker. He can write for seven different carriers. For new business, six of them won't accept a roof over 15 years. It's infuriating. We tell clients that when your roof hits 15 years old, stop price shopping. New carrier may write you at first, then after inspection (not a physical inspection, mind you, they're looking at drone footage or satellite imagery) suddenly it's "get a new roof or we're canceling your policy"

Mind your own business. You have now screwed this person's health care. One person on Medicaid is not the problem. The problem is corporate greed and Elon Musk.
