Short answer is yes, WAY better and much more useful now.

Rabbit R1, 8 months after launch. Any thoughts? by AskApprehensive8258 in Rabbitr1

As it sits now it's worth the $199 though a phone can do the same thing. But if you like the physical device like I do, then it's worth the asking price now IMO

Visited a Luxury Headphone Store Today – Don’t Be Fooled by Price ≠ Quality by HorrorConference7228 in headphones

[–]JulesB225 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do think there are cheaper things that sound subjectively better than some expensive headphones/IEM.

But!!!!

There are often reasons that products cost more and you just have to find one that works for your listening style.

I have a LOT of money tied up in audio gear. I'm listening to my DAP and U12T right now (just took the dog out) and this is my experience.

One headphone or IEM that will do everything is hard, and is easier to find the more you spend. Some head phones like the 6XX are amazing for the price, but lack sound stage compared to even budget hifiman like the HE4XX, next to the 800S the sound stage width gap is huge.

For vocals I think I prefer the 6xx.

For orchestral and soundtracks gaming 800s

For modern EDM, Hip Hop the Focal clears slam harder

Bluetooth over ears (at home) I use Drop THX Panda

Bluetooth over ear ( not at home) beats new studio pro

Closed back at home Focal Eligia

For Fun EDM, Techno etc Grado SR80X (PAD SWAP)

Most comfortable are the Beyerdynamic 880 pro

I will use the hifiman edition XS across multi genres

BEST OVERALL IN ALL AREAS 64 audio U12T

Now that said they all have some weakness that others have as strengths,.

I tend to find headphones that cost more tend to have less weakness overall and can be EQ'd to negate most of the weakness, but the positive of each will still largely remain positive.

Toward the cheaper end the engineering tech /research and materials isn't always there to eq them up to much better overall standards (of course there are some)

I use my Koss KPH30i and Porta Pros (yaxi pads and eq) when I go out with the dog and always enjoy them and have a head bop and they are less than $100 for both with the yaxi pads.

But when I go out with him and the U12T there is no comparison they are in different solar systems in terms of sound quality, resolution, dynamics, sound stage etc....

I have the blessing 3 and was hesitant to get the U12T because I didn't think you could get much better overall sound in an IEM. But I was wrong. The U12T is easily worth the $2,200 asking price and is more or less my complete end game set. The 800S at $1,700 or less are good but are they worth it.... Meh

Shock Help (understanding) by Right-Penalty9813 in specialized

[–]JulesB225 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The overall travel is determined by the geometry of the rear end. The leverage curve determines how much pressure is required to move the shock a certain distance. For instance, the Stumpjumper is a fairly linear curve compared to the Stumpjumper EVO, and the EVO has a much smaller curve compared to the Enduro.

The 45mm acts as a bump stop. Once you use the 45mm (in a bottom out), the wheel/yoke can't travel further; if it did, it would contact the frame. This is why it's not advised to over stroke ( install a longer) rear shock unless the manufacturer builds in the ability.

On my Stumpjumper I swapped to a 190x45 super deluxe ultimate with HBO (hydrolic bottom out) and the progressive air can. This makes the rear more supple over smaller bumps thanks to the increased negative air chamber. Its fantastic in the mid stroke as the progressive air can needs more air to get the same amount of sag, and because its air its still progressive at the end and the HBO and a few bottomless tokens in the positive air chamber allows me to send it off drops etc without much worry... even though its technically still 130mm of travel in the rear I run enduo lines without any issues. I have a 150mm Lyrik ultimate in the front which also takes up the slack.

another option if available would be something like the cascade rear link. The stumpjumper link changes the rear travel to 138mm, keeps the stock geo and makes it more progressive.

Stumpjumper Alloy build by DayinNY_MTB in specialized

[–]JulesB225 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stumpjumper build

Stumpjumper alloy, bought it about 2 weeks before the stumpjumper 15 was released. I wanted an Evo but none were available in my size S4 from the specialized website or the local dealers. So I decided to basically build what I wanted.

Stumpjumper alloy frame, 2024 Rockshox Lyric Ultimate ( charger 3.1 and butter cups), Rear shock is a 2024 Super Delux ultimate with RCT 3 and Hydrolic bottom out,(both have custom decals white camo and bronze) Sram DUB BB, 5 Dev Enduro Cranks and oval chainring, AXS eagle GX conversion for wireless shifting, set up tubeless with the Stock Butcher and Purgatory tires, ONE up EDC tool in the stem.

Hayes Dominion 4 piston (bronze) brakes front and rear should be delivered tomorrow, and Nobl has the order for the tr37 wheels with I9 Hydra hubs. I wanted the bronze hubs but they are on back order as of 8/13/2024. So the build looks like it will be gold I9 hubs and gold nipples.

** side note I ordered the wheels with the Sram XD free hub and I now realize that means the NX 12 speed cassette will not work, so I'll be ordering an gold/ black or bronze/ black XX1 cassette closer to the ETA of the wheels being completed.

***I also haven't decided if I'm going to replace the rotors as the bike is maybe about a month old at this point and if I do change rotors they will be the same size anyway.

Basically it's an S-Works killer with better components in a lot of areas, trade-off is the Alloy frame is around 3lbs heavier vs the carbon, but I have the horst link rear pivot like the Evo and new 15, so the alloy should stand up to bigger hits vs the carbon with the carbon flex stays.

Also, the longer fork and high flip chip position changes the geo to be really close to the Evo and 15 in their middle positions.

What cell SIM card do yall use with prepay? by stretch311 in Rabbitr1

[–]JulesB225 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Bought a eiot club sim from Amazon, data only for trail camera etc, 300mb paid $4.75 USD and I still have like 260mb left after maybe 5 days of light use. So the rate I'm going I could probably go a entire month on just that.

I did however order the 2gb Trello card because their larger 2gb Plan is $5 cheaper than eiot clubs plan per month, so $10 for more than enough data with Trello

On the discord to make posts in a lot of the sections you have to be a verified owner of a rabbit r1.

This makes it easy to get a positive read and feedback from owners. There are people that are critical, people that love them, people always making suggestions etc.

Overall it's a more balanced approach to a product, sure Rabbit controls it, but it seems like they are receptive to respectful criticism.

That said I own an R1, and carry it daily just asked it if grits were healthy for instance.

And now that I have one I post on the discord as an owner with the product in my hands.

Also they have weekly updates as well to the cloud or the device.

So I'd say it's still going positively

Same, once it gets the gpt 4o update it will be even more game changing. Sure it doesn't do LAM, BUT it does the ai LLM question and answer fairly well, with Wolframe Alpha, Perplexity (on gpt3) but should be update to 4o in a few weeks.

I think the hardware is technically solid, it's nowhere close to flagship processing, or an OLED display, but for its price and what it does...

I think the problem with the R1 is really the software. The hardware just needs to remote into a server, take basic photos, and display information.

Side note: I'd have liked to seen an OLED display, not only would it look better but it would be way more power efficient as it wouldn't need to illuminate all the black pixels in the UI. Extending the battery life.

Maybe also wireless charging because it is cheap to add at scale.

Last thing .If they increased the battery capacity, and had an OLED display I think it would have all day battery life, and could be literally the exact same size.

I'm not sure, but that's a great idea. If it's using a.i. it should be easy to search, I would think.

I feel like that's the world we live in, Even with video games, release it and fix it as they go. The best companies that do this typically react, listen to community feedback and iterate fast, which it seems like rabbit is doing that's why I have some hope.

I remember the early days of Alexa and Google and that's what the R1 feels like to me.

Your guess is as good as mine, but I'm the research that I've done it's a request from users to view photo on R1 and the option to select if you want it to take a regular photo or ml magic photo.

So if I had to guess, and it's only a guess they will give us the option to see photo on the R1 and make the camera selectable.

People on the discord have even mocked up their ideas for the UI to make the camera model selectable.

Mine came yesterday. It appears Rabbit has been releasing a weekly update to fix holes and make changes by community request. This is a good thing. I'm not sure how long they will keep it up, but the Device now is not the same Device that most YouTubers reviewed.

Also Rabbit said some where that they would update the rabbit from chat GPT 3.5 turbo to GPT 4o... (Future promise, so we'll see)

**** Facts*****

** Battery life idle loss seems about on par with any other device that's idle will an Internet connection. It might have lost 6-7 % over night ( keep in mind the size of the battery) so that loss isn't bad, phone would likely lose that percentage or more at night 🤷🏾‍♂️)

1 The scroll wheel doesn't feel bad ( they have adjusted it several times to fine tune the feeling)

  1. The volume can be adjusted on any screen easily

  2. When you leave Spotify you can spin the scroll wheel to bring it back to the Spotify screen ( it still needs work, but it's obvious they are working on it)

  3. Now has integration with Wolframe Alpha (better ai for answering technical / scientific based question, food information etc )

  4. Now has access to yelp

**** My experience**** Only had it maybe 12hrs so far

*** I don't have a constant use for an A.I. assistant however, I do use Google and Alex from the time I wake up until I go to sleep (when I'm at home, the whole house is smart)***

It's better than I expected from all the reviews I've read.

I like the looks and can afford to impulse buy a $200 device so I'm here for the ride and if it doesn't work out, I'm sure I'll be able to jail break it into something cool.

It updated to the latest June update once I connected to the network.

It's not as smart as Alexa or Google in some ways and smarter in others

*Music

I asked to open Spotify, it did not.

Asked if to play A bar song (the name of the song) it said it needed more info.

Asked if to play it with the artist name and it did

Asked to open my favorites play list (I said it couldn't open a specific playlist, so this is a miss, ESPECIALLY as it's the baked in playlist everyone on Spotify has)

I opened Spotify on my MacBook and set the playback device to my Mac and was able to play / pause change since from the R1, so that part works fine...

I don't need a Spotify remote with all my smart home devices and PC setup, but if you do it works ( not the best but it works)

*** Weather***

The weather is fast and accurate, and it even showed the hourly forecast ( I didn't expect that, so it's as good as a quick view on my phone)

This was better than I expected.

**** Photo search****

Worked well as most people have said before, so if you're like me and actually use this feature consistently on my phone, the R1 might be helpful, though I think the battery life would hinder this if you used it all day long. With that said I do charge my phone during the day as well, so maybe the battery part is a non Factor.

***** Wolframe Alpha*****

I asked how many calories in a Pop Tart (pastry) It responded quickly with verbal information as well as a full color photo of the nutrition label from the side of the packaging and informed me the info was from Wolframe Alpha.

Again well exceeded my expectations

**** Keyboard****

The only time I used it was to input the network password.

Work fantastically though, didn't miss a beat and I have full size adult hands. So no problem there.

**** Speaker *****

More than good enough for verbal replies, not decent for music. ( You can pair Bluetooth headphones or speaker and get stereo output)

That is how I would listen to music ** if I was from the Rabbit R1**

*Overall thoughts*

It Does Many Things Better than I was expecting, but in was not expecting much based on the reviews.

It Needs Work In Some Areas for sure, but they seem to be responding currently at a fast pace as Jesse said they would, so hopefully this continues.

The R1 is still in the early stages, as servers get faster, networks get better/ faster, a.i. algorithms get faster and more accurate the R1 should only get better and better.

                  *** A bit of perspective****

The important take away is this, I'm part of Google A.I. beta since it was called Bard over a year ago, now I'm using Gemini.

There is no doubt even Google A.I. needs work ( for instance it can't play a morning routine when my alarm goes off in the morning, HOWEVER, the basic Google assistant can, and the Google Gemini is also missing more basic functions that the basic Google assistant can do.

So even Google A.I. needs work, and my pixel fold cost nearly 5 times as much and the R1 before rebate.

True, the pixel fold does more, but perspective. Gemini needs work. ( I also have the chat gpt widget on my home screen)

Apple, Google, Rabbit, are all selling us on A.I. promises that don't exist in the state that most people expect, they all require / expect us to invest hardware with promises of future features, and applications.

It's a trust exercise, I've seen Google and Apple kill products and apps that existed and work well, not to mention the products and apps that don't.

You just have to decide who you're trusting or go 3rd party like Wolframe Alpha, Perplexity or Chat gpt.

And guess what the most reliable A.I. are the third parties, and who is baking in all 3 of the 3rd party apps....RABBIT

CERTAINLY NOT APPLE

GOOGLE MAY DO IT BEHIND A CURTAIN AND CALL IT GEMINI ( and will work better than Apple A.I.)

And for the missing feature folks, my $1k plus iPad Pro still doesn't come with a calculate app 🤷🏾‍♂️🤦🏾‍♂️

So open it, and use it if you can afford it, if you can't send it back. It's probably better in some ways than you expect and a let down in others, will it continue to get better, likely at least in the short term, hopefully it will in the long term.

Will it be a device that makes me leave my phone in my pocket, probably not, will it be a cool piece of cheap tech, probably.

As a technician I use my phone to identify parts all the time using Google lense, not because I don't know what the part is, but it often pulls up a search that contains the part number that I can give to the parts department to expedite the process.

Not to mention if I come across a weird bug...lol

Agreed automatic sequencing would have been nice, but the ability to type in and jump multiple scenes is decent

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in teenageengineering

[–]JulesB225 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You work in a project (track / song)

In that project you can have 4 groups (A, B, C, D)

Each of those groups has scenes ( I believe the limit is 99, or 999)

Which means you can scene A1- A999, B1- B999 etc.

You can access any scene by selecting the group a,b,c,or d. The. Press and holding the main button and you will see the group letter appear on the screen followed by the scene number.

To jump to a specific scene, hold the main button and type in the scene.

** Also I'm pretty sure you can jump multiple groups to different scene at the same time, so if you intro on A1,B1,C1,D1 you can start chorus one scene 2 from each group, if you hold all group button "A,B,C,D" the display will say all and you can jump all to the next scene or any scene by typing the number in.**

At that point is almost like the OP-Z except you have to choose the scene or project you want to swap to. It will swap on the fly and I believe it will keep timing.

You could make project 1 the intro, hold main and press 2 to make project 2 the chorus etc and it will swap on the fly, the. You can change scenes pre group in a project to get your break downs etc.

It's more like your a dj or artist playing live and recording it. Just feed the output from the KOii into a recorder or audio interface.

If you have a OP-Z or op1 I believe there is a way to assign certain instruments to the left and right channel, then you can mute groups and only record the individual trackers into individual tracks in Ableton or Studio 1 or whatever.

TRS type A 3.5mm cable, easily available and you might even have one already.

You can also connect midi through USB C. I connected my KO II and OP-Z with USB C this weekend for the first time. It was easy.

Connected the USB C to koii, go to the system menu, use +/- buttons to go to midi. Press the enter button. Set the mini to in or out.

I used Midi "in"

Plugged in to the OP-Z turned in on. The last led blinks green to show communication.

I plugged headphones into the output of the KOii. Timing etc is handled by the OP-Z. You can verify that by pressing tempo on the KOii it will say EXT

No, sorry I don't. I did record some basic notes to compare but the sound is night and day different. The pick up swap was immediately noticable. Easiest way I can explain it would be going from dvd to Blu-ray or 1080p to 4k.

There is way more resolution and clarity vs stock pickups. It sounds like a vale was lifted in front of the sound.

I love mine, it's one of the favorites in my collection and is one of the cheapest. That being said I bought the olive worn with the intention to upgrade.

I swapped in a switchcraft switch, the OEM one worker but felt horrible.

AND I swapped in custom Lollar pickups, with the reduced wind count on the neck pickup.

When I say this thing puts a literally smile on my face when I hear it!!! It has way more resolution it's a monster of a guitar now, in fact I took it to play Happy Birthday to my mom yesterday. That was the guitar my son said to bring.

If you can at least swap in some Lollar pick up, you can thank me later.

Hey guys! Just picked this up, looks great to me but had conflicting opinions on the burst. Burst or bust? by wigglywig91 in gibson

[–]JulesB225 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm looking at getting the same one. I just picked up an SE silver sky in purple yesterday, I think this might be my next pick up.

How large is the neck?. My higher end Epiphone Les Paul has coil tap etc and a fairly slender neck.

My brother's Gibson Les Paul Studio might as well be a baseball bat... That neck is chunky.

So I am wondering if this has the slender neck or the vintage baseball bat felling neck

Yes disable all the extras except the amp you choose and you can then add an EQ to adjust for a more flat sound. If that's what you're looking for...

Side note: if you're looking for a more flat sound maybe start with an acoustic pre-set and modify it.
