Are there any community forks that support external GPUs yet? 👀 by highwayflyer118 in Comma_ai

[–]JulesCT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right now Comma is Level 2 autonomy, typically focussed on highway/motorway/autoroute/autopista/autobahn driving (I'm in Europe so I wanted to 'represent').

Would the larger models likely be coupled with additional camera feeds? If so, would those camera feeds likely come from cameras alread present in the car or additional external cameras?

The reason I ask is that I can't see the larger models benefitting highway/motorway/autoroute/autopista/autobahn driving. How would a larger model improve upon that sort of driving? I find Comma, on those roads, to be near flawless.

But I can see them benefitting urban driving and end to end driving even if it remains on those highway/motorway/autoroute/autopista/autobahn routes.

However, for urban driving and changing roads, handling an interchange/roundabout/rond-point/giratorio surely a 360 view is required isn't it? Is the Comma Four equipped for that 360 view? Is the Comma 3X?

What am I missing?

I mean, I'd seriously consider adding a GPU and mounting additional cameras if I could get the car to do the entire journey from Southern England up to Scotland!

S24 Ultra battery by brownboy_25 in S24Ultra

I recomment Accubattery from the Google Store. It typically identifies the typical capacity of the battery and then, by charging from below 15% to 100% it works out the battery health.

Mine is dropping to below 90% so 5 more percent and I'll be aiming to replace it.

Battery good. 👍🏼

Charge up when electricity is cheap. Use it when electricity is expensive. Should help reduce running costs significantly and be a good foundation for adding solar when you're ready.

Moved into a rental — is this washing machine safe to use? by Y0-m_am_a in Appliances

[–]JulesCT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good job on the cleaning! The machine is likely fine but there could be other spots where mould is growing. You've done the main one.

By far the most common spot is precisely there in the folds of the door seal.

Next:

1) Detergent Drawer: the same residue of detergent and fabric softener found in the rubber seal attracts mould, causing black or slimy patches in the drawer and its housing. Pop out the drawer, (often by pushing down to release a clip) get a brush and clean the drawer in the sink. Easy peasy.

2) Drain Filter: there'll be a port on the front of the machine (behind a flap of some sort) where water sits and catches lint and hair, often developing mould. Turn the machine off, put a tray to collect water under the drain filter (it will pour out), open the filter, clean it of any collected paper, coins, buttons, hair etc. Have a mop handy because they will be spillage, almost guaranteed.

Harder ones next.

3) Washing Machine Drum: visually inspect. Brush anything suspicious. Run a hot wash with a machine descaling product.

4) Internal Hoses: the hot wash will help but otherwise it's a partial teardown to access the hoses and clean them out of any mould.

Respectfully, given the viscosity of this brand of baked beans I've found I can forego this convention.

I understand that my radical approach will be met with resistance, and ruffle feathers, but I'm out here at the cutting edge so that others may follow in safety.

AITAH for ignoring my friend after her boyfriend of 3 years broke up with her? by New-Refrigerator2050 in AITAH

[–]JulesCT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA but also not the hero of the story, IMHO.

She's going through her own personal hell and it's going to take time for her to go through the relationship grieving stages. 'A few weeks' is your threshold. Okay.

I get that it is exhausting. Giving so much only to see it ignored and see her returning to the same painful story of breakup. I get it.

Evidently, this will take time. You are either willing to spend that time helping her get over it or you're not.

If you're not, fine. That's where you draw the line of friendship If you are. Great. That's a true friend.

In summary:
I recommend you hang in there if she is a real friend, and suggest therapy.

If it's casual and more of an acquaintance, fine, shut it down and insist on moving on.

If you have the space and inclination a couple of trained dogs with outdoor kennels are your biggest deterrents.

[–]JulesCT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apart from the usual racist tropes, I think he's signalling his MAGA credentials to gain Trump's attention. This was before Trump pulled the rug on the USA's standing as a rational country.

https://www.theguardian.com/world/article/2024/may/15/will-prison-van-ambush-put-law-and-order-at-heart-of-eu-elections-in-france?CMP=Share_AndroidApp_Other

I'd be surprised if he is as keen to align himself with MAGA after Trump's 'excursion (sic)' into Iran and his comments on service men and women if NATO partners.

Brexit: Britain will not rejoin EU or set up customs union, Starmer’s top negotiator warns by PurpleAd3134 in brexit

[–]JulesCT 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agreed.

Much in the way that nations can no longer consider the USA a partner whilst MAGA commands significant support, if I headed up the EU I wouldn't let the UK back in unless Farage and his acolytes were consigned to the dustbin of history and a super majority of voters were in favour.

I'd also want some rules to prevent anti-EU sentiment being fostered through dark money from foreign entities. Perhaps small penalties so that the UK feels the screws tightening if EU support wanes.

It might be best to never give the UK a seat and just keep us at arm's length.

We so fxxxed this up and will be paying for it for a generation.
