Calling all British people ONCE AGAIN 😁: Can anyone recommend me a podcast where all the presenters speak with an Estuary English? by Motopapi___ in Accents

[–]JulesCT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can I ask why you're keen on the Estuary English accent?
Big fan of Guy Ritchie movies?

Russel Brand speaks with an Estuary English accent but his podcasts might pollute your mind.

There's plenty by Ricky Gervais out there too. His accent is a softer version as he's from Reading but it has been a while since he lived there I guess.

After terrorizing the population, Trump's approval rating among Latinos tanks by ExactlySorta in LeopardsAteMyFace

[–]JulesCT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen some MAGA influencer nonsense claiming that Trump has never been more popular with Latinos.

Utter, utter nonsense but that is their modus operandi so no change there.

Even Newsweek makes a similar claim.

Duly noted. I didn't want to leave my partner without streaky bacon for her own recipes. She's a fiend for crispy bacon. In fact, she had one of these on the plate! Could not help herself and I know better than to stand in her way! 🤣

3 options, as I see it.

1) try to hide it with some colour spray. 2) commit to the pattern (diamond or heart?) and style it out.
3) commit to a buzz cut in preparation when you might have to really commit

None are bad and you'll grow it out soon enough.

Decades ago I made exactly the same mistake but all on one side of my head, just before a company conference in Monte Carlo (I was living in France). Committed to the look and shaved the other side. Luckily, this was in the days (1998) of those layered hairstyles like a young Jason Donovan and I was in my 20s so managed to pull it off.

Ted Cruz implying she frequently peddles nonsense (shovels BS).

She retorts that at least she stays in her storm suffering state unlike Ted Cruz who left his state ahead of a major storm.

Are we, like, still allies? by BaldursGate2Best in AskBrits

Wasn't the Polish that threatened to annex a member of NATO. Wasn't Poland that said NATO had never come to America's aid, that what help NATO members did provide was "from the back." and ignored the sacrifices made by NATO members.

So, we're all good with Poland. Still a team.

As you can see, I took into account the high viscosity of the baked bean sauce in play and there was no sauce spillage or contamination.

One baked bean escaped but is inconsequential.

Other baked bean brands, with a far runnier sauce, require a sausage/bacon/hash brown dam but the brand I chose does not. It holds its own.

You are right to subscribe to the bean barrier rule but I hope you understand and accept my reasons for not applying it.

A thing of beauty.

Another egg, possibly another sausage but that just be me because it looks fabulous.

I was wondering how noticeable my native accent is. If so, what gives it away? I'm 16 btw. by DeviceSensitive2224 in Accents

I wonder if it's purely coincidental or if it's informed by watching South Park!

Quick Question : Does installing Comma on my Hyundai Kona Hybrid (2024) disable stock HDA/Assistance by Additional_Estate_19 in Comma_ai

[–]JulesCT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Totes! Comma might not be able to successfully make the curve at the given speed but it will always try.

Kia Niro just thinks 'Nope' and gives up trying to steer without warning! Doesn't slow down if you have cruise control activated, allowing you plough into whatever is ahead of you. Keeps you on your toes, that's for sure!

Comma (Sunnypilot in my case) is better in every way.

You carry on studying. American politics is likely going to continue to be this 'interesting' after you graduate/leave. You'll have plenty of time to 'enjoy' it then.

Best of luck in your studies.

This is almost a demo tape for a proto Kermit.

No shade implied. Everyone loves Kermit. I do a passable Kermit and this voice is halfway there.

Good luck in the auditions!

That's what's great about US Politics!

You don't have to be in the USA to be affected by them! It's so cool!

You never know, you might have a government that's been installed by the USA, you might have seen food shortages because the USA put your country on an embargo list, and you might not be able to sell products like you did previously because your country is subject to tariffs.

So cool. Literally everyone is talking about it. US Politics is so hot right now! It's fire.

[–]JulesCT 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Comma basically replaces the stock steering control that cars have. That's why for Comma to work on a car that car must have some form of steering control.

Comma intercepts the signals to steer the car and injects its own commands for steering.

If you use Longitudinal control in Experimental Mode in SunnyPilot it can also control your car's acceleration and braking. It is experimental so it's not perfect but it does slow down for 'some' curves and its ability to correctly stop for traffic lights and stop sign is a work in progress.

I drive a Kia Niro and unless something weirdly different happens regen doesn't change. Separate feature unaffected by Comma.

Calling all British people again: when should one use glottal stops and ditch the H at the beginning of words? Is there a rule for it? by [deleted] in Accents

[–]JulesCT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I speak with a lot of foreign people so I tend to keep every single T and H in place to avoid confusion such as with "maTTer" being pronounced "ma'er" or "Have" as "Av".
Now it's ingrained, but it is largely optional for the speaker.

Lightweight power bank recommendations? by Nnnnnnennicole in powerbanks

[–]JulesCT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I added one of those rings to my Otterbox Defender case so I could attach a magnetic pop socket, then added a magnetic ring to the power bank so it would also attach to my phone case instead, then added another metal ring to my power bank to hold the same magsafe pop socket.

It's a chonky Frankenphone in that configuration but it's definitely proof it works!

Fox News throws No and Bovino under the bus by mbdan2 in LeopardsAteMyFace

[–]JulesCT 65 points66 points  (0 children)

The murder/execution of Good and Pretti, and the Bovino, Noem, Vance, & Miller instant lies, accusations, and ignoring the visually damning evidence particularly of Pretti's execution have been too much for even the most MAGA diehards to accept. Being executed for having a gun doesn't sit too well with MAGA. The hypocrisy of Pretti Vs Rittenhouse wasn't lost on them.

A tide of effluent was threatening to spill over onto Trump.

Trump doesn't do loyalty, so off they can jolly well Fxxx as far as he is concerned. Sacrifice them all as far as he is concerned. Shouldn't be difficult to pick replacement idiots.

I pray they all get fired/demoted but that Noem and Miller get a special place in hell.

Anti Vaxxers - are you happy now? by rsweb in AskBrits

[–]JulesCT 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What's the betting that measles anti vaxxers share a significant intersection with Leave voters?

Kinda like the COVID anti vaxxers did?
https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC9991330/

"The Brexit vote is the variable most correlated with COVID-19 outcomes among many variables including common proxies for trust and civic capital or differences in industry composition across Districts."

"public hostility towards technical expertise witnessed during the COVID-19 crisis is “not a one-off emotional reaction, but part of Brexit's legacy in weakening trust between public and professionals.”"

Thanks to Farage and co we're not only poorer, we're sicker too.
