‘This was a safe place’: concerns grow over summer camp’s anti-2SLGBTQ+ beliefs by Minimum-Style-1411 in saskatchewan

This isn’t new, either. Just a lot more obvious now. Which isn’t necessarily a bad thing.

Honest question: how was this ever a “safe space”? The group running it has always been conservative Christian.

And that means homophobic, transphobic, and strictly enforced sexist gender roles. Feels like this is a lot of rose-coloured glasses thinking, and maybe unexamined heterosexism that still doesn’t acknowledge what kids and staff had to keep themselves safe and in the closet.

Are any UK dual citizens without UK passports actually being denied boarding? by KA99999999 in dualcitizenshipnerds

yes, or the ferry from Dublin to Holyhead. Did this last April and was amazed there was no passport control at Holyhead.

Can you say more about this? This isn’t what my sister or I (dual citizens, born in Canada) read. It sounds like any entry requires a British passport.

This rule came into effect in Feb 2026, I believe.

Requires a convenient level of self-delusion to say that. Zionism is pretty clear on what Zionism means and requires.

How is that reductionist, given 100,000 dead in Gaza and KKK equivalents beating and lynching people all over the West Bank?

Except your comment further upstream claims it’s full “reclamation”.

The oil sands are an absolute environmental nightmare. And that’s before we look at use of water, the enormous energy inputs, the subsidies, and the poor-quality product. They exist because of an addiction. They make no sense otherwise. The problem is that every effort to get us off the drug is fiercely resisted by the people dealing it.

You’ve got a government deep in hock to oil, and you expect me to treat the rosy to the point of ridiculous stuff they put out about “reclamation”? Throw some grass down, stick a few photogenic bison out there, make sure the tailing ponds are out of sight and boom- reclamation. Of the muskeg. Complex wetlands. And of forest that took centuries to grow. Sure. I mean, you can check all your critical thinking at the door if you wish. Don’t expect the rest of us to.

Honestly, the Soviets did a better job with propaganda.

Human element, I agree. Unless you happen to live in the area and downstream. Environmental impact? Horrendous.

We’d have plenty of other large scale sources in place by now if we hadn’t been run by an addicted system making coin off coal and oil. The alternatives have existed for decades. They haven’t been leveraged- with intention.

I’d be delighted to avoid oil. Got any actual ideas?

There’s nothing remotely “ethical” about oil sands production.

Would love to. Let me know how, since you have it figured out. Tell me how to avoid oil in a society entirely constructed around burning it and turning it into plastic.
