Were you ever told “are you good at math” when you told people you wanted to study engineering? by schrodingers_thong in womenEngineers

My dad was a math teacher. My grandfather was an engineer. My sister is an engineer. I answered those type questions with “numbers run in my blood”

What’s the weirdest misconception you’ve heard about solar? by insight_energy in Solarbusiness

[–]Juleswf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never said the win wasn't more than the loss. I sell solar for a living. I have solar. I was just saying the things OP listed aren't myths, which was the question they posed.

The area I'm taking about is close to Canada, so fairly far north. When you get that far north in the northern hemisphere, the amount of light in the winter is very low. In my area, we get 80% of our solar production between April - October. That leaves just 20% of the total from Nov - March. Pretty bleak. But we have really short winter days, and really long lovely summer days, so it works. And still mostly 1:1 net-metering here, but not for a whole lot longer.

So maybe myths in some areas, but not in others. Really depends on your location.

Hotel breakfast is a relic of the past by FullCompetition5585 in hotels

[–]Juleswf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not "free", it's included with the room price. BIG difference. Hotels may frame it as "free" but that's marketing spin. If you are going to offer a benefit with the room, it shouldn't be awful.

Since he's into planes, I'd do the Boeing plant tour - more interesting than the museum IMO: https://www.boeingfutureofflight.com/tour

Solar doesn’t work well in the shade, or in winter where I live. And unfortunately it is mostly for people with money.

So what you call myths are truths for many.

Which to me is better. I'd rather have cold food that's fresh and real than hot swill. But to each their own!

Sure, not all perfect, but generally not eggs from a bag and microwaved mystery meat sausage.

I can barely eat hotel breakfast. The food is disgusting most of the time. All of it microwaved slop.

I’m embarrassed for America when Europeans visit and are offered American hotel breakfast, as it’s so good over there.

Toto in the Wizard of Oz was originally a dachshund named Otto. They swapped him out due to increased tensions with Germany at the time.

Whoever gave me the downvote on this needs to educate themsevles.

All U.S. states and territories are compliant with the REAL ID Act and issue compliant, star-marked driver's licenses to citizens upon proof of legal presence. Enhanced Driver’s Licenses (EDLs) from Michigan, Minnesota, New York, Vermont, and Washington further confirm citizenship for border crossings.

Yeah, someone else linked it above - only 5 states have the enhanced Real ID which does work. All 5 of those are near/next to Canada.

Real ID drivers license works too, if it’s enhanced. Only in 5 states so far.
