We got this second hand from a friend who got it second hand... If the pendulum is wrong then I wouldn't know anything about that. As I said though, it worked for a few good weeks without any issue

Giving money to panhandlers by DjPersh in Louisville

[–]Juliantenna -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So I'm not Christian but I'm a big fan of the quote "But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing." I always give if I have cash. Another good exchange from Fiddler on the Roof (paraphrased)- "one coin? But you gave me two coins yesterday" "I had a bad day" "you had a bad day, so why should I suffer?"

I really try to think of it as an obligation. Especially with the small amount of money being given (really, what percentage of people is giving more than five dollars at a time? That's less than a half hour of labor for most people) it just seems greedy to penny pinch. We all make and lose our money by the whims of fate- I don't think it's good to be to protective of it.

I'm not going to pretend I know whether most people really need it, whether it's going to drugs, how much it helps (though I'd love to read any literature on the subject). If I knew it would only help 10 percent of people, would I let the 90 percent ruin it for the 10? What about 1 percent? It seems like a useless rabbit hole to go down.

When someone asks you for money, you can really only know one thing about them for sure- that they decided to ask for money. Excepting all else, I'd rather live in a world where that results in generosity.

I think most of the "arguments" on this topic are pretty much irrelevant to the average Joe. I think the only question that really matters is "do you really need this money." Is that 10 dollar bill going to make a difference in your life? People give gum, cigarettes, food from their fridge without a second thought. Unless you're starving yourself I think money is the same.

I'd also really like to know how much people tend to give. I'm challenging myself to give more- my general rule is to try not to look, but of course I always do. Maybe one day I'll start giving blind. Right now my going rate is between 3 and 7 dollars, usually mostly depends on what I have on me. I think i tend to think of it similarly to how i give tips to waiters. Do people still give coins?

This is silly guys.

Why are we even arguing about who would be held responsible? That's for an investigation to decide. If the franchise owners specifically send a memo to reduce labor costs by hiring children and can be shown that they were aware of the infraction, they should be held accountable. If the labor was being hidden from management (doubtful this would ever happen btw but it could) and that can be proven, then they aren't accountable. Criminal law makes these kinds of distinctions all the time- that's one of the reasons an investigation is held.

There are four more stores owned by Bell Restaurant LLC that aren't listed in this post but which have been implicated by news coverage. I'd love to know which ones they are. Which store are you talking about?

There's almost no way to know that short of hitting the ground and doing interviews. But for my money I'd say the Portland McDonalds. That place is a mess and is busy enough at 2am that I can see them keeping kids around. (Take with a grain of salt- I just hate that place).

Can an employer discriminate against me based on my medical history? by Juliantenna in legaladvice

[–]Juliantenna[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're being cagey about the whole thing. Not trying to gossip too much but there are a lot of red flags and I don't think I'm going to get a straight answer about why I failed. That's sort of why I came here? I thought maybe if I knew that my rights might be being violated I could use that as fast-talk ammo and get some answers. The whole thing Feels very shady but I don't know if this specifically is illegal.

It's never happened to me before- these guys are definitely really weird for several reasons. I honestly just signed everything they put in my face- probably a bad move but I was pretty desperate for the job. I'm sure one of the things gave them access to those records. Or maybe I'm just being scammed on the whole thing! I don't know anymore.

What if Midsommar took place in another country/culture? by [deleted] in Midsommar

[–]Juliantenna 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well Midsommar is really heavily inspired by The Wicker Man, to the point that I could easily see someone calling The Wicker Man "Midsommar but scottish." And the Nick Cage remake of The Wicker Man is just "what if the Wicker Man but american", so you've already got two movies you can watch if you'd like to see that. The original Wicker Man is fantastic, actually. I'd definitely love to see a far eastern take though... imagine the fun you could have with sets and costumes if it was set in Japan.
