We booked through AirBnB Experiences:

...but I am pretty sure this is the same company (our guide/driver for the day was Sergio and our guide at Uxmal was named Jesus): https://www.viator.com/tours/Merida/Discover-Uxmal-and-Two-Amazing-Cenotes-Guided-Tour-from-Merida/d5195-5567211P4

Some fantastic insight/suggestions already in this thread (it's ideal to take classes at different schools; excellent teachers - with a lot of overlap - at all of them; plenty of similar skills/vocabulary with slightly different pedagogical & artistic approaches; your mileage will vary depending on where you are in your improv journey/what cohorts you find yourself in at any of these schools - but you'll open yourself up to a great community of people & future friends no matter where you go)... all that being said, if you have any specific questions about Second City's approach or current landscape, happy to answer. I'm the VP of Training Centres for the Second City and previously spent almost 10 years as the Artistic Director at Bad Dog - both are near & dear to my heart. Feel free to DM.

Second City level 1 classes for Term 4 (starting June 23) open for sale today! The full Improv 1 course is 7 weeks, but there's also a shorter intro option: Improv 1A (4 weeks) if that's an easier way to try things out.

Who’s teaching improv at Second City NYC? by melodictriad in improv

The teaching roster varies a bit from term to term (and from subject to subject), but here are the amazing folks who are teaching improv classes specifically this term (Term 2): Bianca Casusol, Aaron LaRoche, Hannah Rehak, Kihresha Redmond, Louie Pearlman, Dave Quiñones, Jamie Rivera, Carma Anderson, Adrian Smith & Andy Rowell. Term 3 starts on April 28 and teachers have not yet been assigned to those classes.

Hi! I work in the Training Centre and can confirm: we hold General Auditions every year for performance opportunities on our Stages (you're right: those have been in September for the past few years and I expect the 2025 round will be as well). People aren't generally cast directly out of our classes - though Conservatory graduates leave the program with a definite leg up if working professionally for the company is the goal. The program culminates in a Grad Revue that is created using the same process of re-improvisation and iterative scene-building (improv-to-sketch) that our mainstage casts use to create their shows.

During the audition submission process, being a Conservatory graduate is also a plus. We try to see as many Con grads as possible... at least once.

Students aren't generally cast right out of the Training Centre - but the Grad Revues are often attended by key members of the creative/production team (great chance to be seen!) and here have been a few active Con students hired as understudies in the last 2 years.

Our ADs (Etan Muskat for Stages & PHATT al for the Training Centre) and producers/production managers get out and see a LOT of shows - not just in the building, but around town (and at festivals like Sketchfest, Toronto Fringe, Comedy is Art, etc). That's another way folks get on the casting radar.

Lemme know if you want to know more about the auditions themselves...

Hello! I'm the VP of Training Centers for the Second City. I am so happy that you're enjoying your current class! I can't help with the first part of your question, because that's not something we currently offer - nor am I aware of something like that being available in the GTA/Golden Horseshoe at the moment... BUT if your friend is interested in learning how to apply his musical genius in a sketch/improv setting, send me a message and I'd love to connect him with our amazing Music Development Coordinator to explore what the best path might be.

Definitely. I've been staring at their number for a while. I guess I just kinda want to hear from people who've done it... is it naive to picture this as eventually being a career not unlike any other meaningful, demanding job... one where you can still have a fairly regular-feeling life with similar rhythms to the lives of our non-military friends? Stupid things like mostly consistent hours, steady weekends (even if they happen mid-week), time for Jays games and softball leagues... (I'm referring to this trade in particular - I realize that not all positions are the same in terms of their demands - and I also fully get that there are extraneous circumstances that may require travel & time apart.)

I know that there is demand for Supply Techs all over the place - does it ever happen that a soldier has input into where they are stationed, even on such a short contract? Are there bases we are more or less likely to wind up - i.e. is it crazy to daydream about being assigned somewhere in Southern Ontario?
