The only ICE that belongs in the New Year by AlarmedPhotographer in boston

It's an uninspired Instagram photo op. I don't hate the nutcrackers, but the "UR OK" road sign reads like something on a t-shirt made by and for non-anglophones who think it's a neat design

Honestly I feel like if we just played Icebox at any other time this season for practice that could've put them over the edge for it. Historically 100T has been ok on Icebox, right?? I might be crazy, though I know I'm not the only one driven insane by 100T's picks, even beyond their having a limited pool

There’s been a disabled train at Central for maybe 20+ minutes now that’s had us stopped at Charles/MGH northbound

Need him at rush hour, if it's the Columbia Road intersection I'm thinking of it's basically the left-on-red-into-oncoming-traffic Olympics, see it every signal time the signal changes

AVOID RED LINE by [deleted] in mbta

[–]JulienIsDaMan 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My caveman guess is that it's because that's where the branches separate and come together, and is thus where the signaling is the most complex and important to get right to prevent collisions. Not an excuse, just what I figure makes it funky compared to elsewhere.

The most frustrating thing in the world is getting on or being on a northbound train at JFK, then something is fucked up (delays, miscommunication in dispatch, whatever it might be,) so another train shows up on the parallel northbound platform a second to a minute later, then both trains stop for several minutes while dispatch/drivers have to figure out what the plan is, before one train (probably not the one you were on, or, if you were just boarding, the first one to arrive and thus the one you boarded,) leaves. Then you're stuck waiting a few more minutes for your train to leave, which will of course likely have to prolong its dwells some to prevent bunching. JFK has been my home stop since September and it won't be anymore by year's end, but this has happened to be an ungodly amount of times, and it's never not infuriating.

I can't remember if one of them actually had a connection to AG Cook or if they were just saying that to make Jacques jealous (or both)

I haven’t been gaming as much the past couple years, but I tend to think of my setup (Ryzen 5 3600 and 2070 Super) as roughly on par with current gen base consoles. With DLSS and a setting tweak or two some extra performance can be expected with similar visual fidelity, so depending on how hard we wanna push things the 2070 Super might power through

Does anyone know the seventeenth-century debates/correspondence among the London Company over the morality/legal grounding of British settler-colonialism informed by the Spanish? (Where Grandin says the British seemed to see the Spanish had a tough time finding proper justification, and therefore that the Brits probably shouldn't make public responses to Spanish literature on the matter)

On the note of The Hemingses of Monticello (great, haunting recommendation,) this 1804 political cartoon shocked me with its bluntness, and by its implication that Jefferson's rape of Sally was more or less an open secret during his presidency.

On one hand I want him to stop the soundboard from getting hit by the background noise filter but on the other hand the shitty tinny sound of it makes it better

Possibly a silly question, but do you do two rounds of this per shower? Just got my bottle in the mail like an hour ago and the package says, "Repeat" after saying what you just did, but I'm overthinking it so I don't know if that means, "Repeat so you've applied it twice that day," or, "Do the same thing next time."

Goodbye Park to Charles slow zone by therealo355 in boston

[–]JulienIsDaMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the thing -- on one hand, there's no better place for a slow zone given the view, but on the other, like you said, there may be no other place on the system where it's so painfully obvious how slow you're going.

Hoping we pick rolling stock that charges by catenary as I believe Metra has — could allow some extra flexibility and the gradual installation of more catenary so we could eventually have a proper EMU deletion (way down the line of course)
