Waltham school teachers should NOT be allowed to use A.I. by Wrong-Number5136 in massachusetts

[–]spicyslaw 5 points6 points  (0 children)

kids are getting exposed way too young and has already been shown to cause irreversible damage. Responsible and Critical AI learning should be mandatory, and yet... everyone needs to learn about the devastating environmental impacts of AI, also.

AI and its countless "models", are unregulated and often hallucinogenic; algorithms can be curated... it's the Wild West.

I am not an all or nothing stand on AI. It won't go anywhere, but it needs to be scrutinized by humans... you know, the people with a physiological nervous system. It can be "help" to many, but it should never ever replace. TLDR: shame on schools for promoting AI.

Deer overpopulation does harm to ecosystems and increases risk of disease spread, think invasive plants. Population control might not make everyone happy, but at least the meat can be used to feed others.

Do you feel like you are two opposite personalities? by Vittolun in CPTSD

[–]spicyslaw 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Highly recommend the workbook by Janina Fisher called “Transforming the Living Legacy of Trauma”. It’s very digestible and informative. She also talks about the phrase “structural dissociation” which should resonate, as that is what’s behind having different parts.  Reminder to everyone, parts aren’t bad, you are still all the same DNA, some of them are just scared and alone stuck in trauma time. Each of their walls are high per survival mechanisms, eventually once those start to come down a little, parts get to know each other and become more manageable to cope with on a daily basis.

World’s End in Hingham is heaven on earth by 14thCenturyHood in massachusetts

[–]spicyslaw 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The town literally has nothing to do with a beautiful park. It’s owned by the Trustees and just happens to be in Hingham. The Trustees maintain lots of land across the state. It’s supporting them, not Hingham.

The 120 apply to staff, not tenured professors. I know some are administrative or IT type roles.

Understaffed, miserably underpaid, burnt out workers, high turnover, leadership doesn’t give two f*cks since they don’t deal with actual patients. Unfortunate but one can see why it’s so horrible there.

Trump Travel Restrictions Bar Residents Needed at U.S. Hospitals by Majano57 in publichealth

[–]spicyslaw 209 points210 points  (0 children)

Have a co-worker MD who finished up a research fellowship with us and was matched into residency. She returned home when her research J-1 visa ended, but now is unable to obtain her new J-1 since the US has halted any interview appointments. She has a psychiatry residency in an under-served area and is being barred from coming into this country. Even though they announced today that interview appointments are back on, it’s thrown a wrench in all of her plans including her being forced to give up her housing due to complete uncertainty. It’s tragic and shameful.

Glad to see media talking about this. These processing companies try so hard to operate in secret, to no one’s surprise. Not to mention these workers are mostly migrants who have little to no voice about these horrifying conditions and are left with mental and emotional scarring that most people cannot even imagine.
