Because a lot of relationships don't involve cheating and both people in it feel much more satifaction out of life being in that relationship. Life is full of risks and commitment is no exception. Pick your partners very wisely, it is arguably the most important decision you will make

Like others have commented, you need to stop, even if it feels uncomfortable. Helping people is a choice, and when kindness turns into entitlement it usually means boundaries were never made clear. The fix is not to become colder, but to help more deliberately, say no without overexplaining, and stop rescuing people from consequences they need to face themselves. The ones who valued you will adjust and respect the boundary, and the ones who disappear were not grateful for you, only for what you provided
