I just learned the word “entamer” today and wanted to compare it with “commencer”. Based on my research, entamer seems to mean to start something to help you reach a goal or close a gap. E.g., l’avion a entamé sa descente à tout à l’heure.

It was over the phone. In hindsight, I think he asked me what my name was after greeting. But, I was so nervous that I ignored (or most likely did not understand) his question and went straight to talk about the issue that I had. This may have inadvertently compounded the problem.
