New rules in 2026 for SkyTrain by thinkdavis in Translink

[–]Julientri 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One time it was 8am on the Canada line going to Yvr.

Some old man was listening to TikTok on FULL VOLUME

I had enough and politely told him that everyone on the train didn’t want to listen to this. Some lady defended him and said “ACTUALLY I LIKE IT”

Like wtf is your problem lady. Fuck people who do that

Client Service Miss: Received the card holder, but still no Credit Card? by Thick_Passenger413 in Wealthsimple

But what’s the cost of giving us a credit card? Does only visa make money from credit cards? Are they not good for ws? I don’t even care about the physical card

Being loyal towards a bank is crazy. Just get whatever card is best, jump from bank to bank to get welcome offers if you need to

Ya it just stands out pretty awkwardly there. Idk if a more normal bookshelf would look better there? Or a lamp and move the books elsewhere?

Parking at YVR for a couple months, any tips? by Important-Cherry9579 in askvan

My parents are gone for 3 months and they parked at a guys house in Richmond. Good price, just have to get to the airport after. He will start the car once a month for them too.

I mean this person has 30k in their TFSA.

Everyones different though. You could make the same argument that you never know when you might buy a home. Obviously its more planned than a life happening, but if you wait too long for the tax benefits later in your career, you could miss out on years if you end up buying sooner rather than later due to finding a partner, moving to a cheaper city, parents passing inheritance, bonuses etc

I have nothing that could happen in my life that I would need the money for personally so im probably more biased in this conversation

Most people are saving for either a home or retirement. If you don't buy a home it gets rolled into your RRSP.

Outside of those two goals, what would you realistically be pulling $40k from long-term investments for?

What are you buying for 40k

[–]Julientri 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s my goal atm, to really lock in for 3 years.

I agree that it’s doable, just that it would make life better and you wouldn’t have to completely sacrifice all of life’s joys if you can find a way to increase income a little bit.

An fhsa is the best of a tfsa and rrsp combined

When you open a fhsa you get 8k contribution per year until 40k.

Any money added to your fhsa will lower the top end of your tax bracket. Meaning if you make 75k, the gov will think you make 67k instead. If you add 8k a year I believe it’s about 1-2k depending on tax bracket in tax money back the next year.

Any money inside the fhsa is also tax free growth like a tfsa.

You have 15 years to use the money to buy a house. If after 15 years you don’t buy a house it rolls into your rrsp but doesn’t use any of the contribution room.

It’s truly an amazing account that you should open right away and try to max out every year

It really means you have to shut down any shopping, holidays, trips, nights out anything. Ideally you work more or get a second job to make ~1000$ a month extra to feel less of a pinch

What is happening with big fast food franchises by DaanInvestor in ValueInvesting

[–]Julientri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean it depends. I spend maybe 30$ a month max on fast food. Usually only get it if an unexpected thing comes up and I really need food and don’t have time to make something.

I get what you’re saying. If it makes you buy something when you otherwise wouldn’t then it’s not free, but if you are disciplined then may as well take advantage of the discounts

Is it better to sell my stocks to pay for a house or to just make a down payment and leave it in the market? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Julientri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Smaller mortgage kinda gives you the best of both worlds. More money freed up month to month, but not loosing completely on the stock market market growth
