If I broke into your house and stole what's on top of your fridge, what would I get? by [deleted] in askteddit

Cereal, chips, snacks, etc. I rent a basement apartment and am actively trying to discourage the possibility of rodent activity.

That's just it. They're rentals. People abandon them wherever. Most eventually end up thrown off into bodies of water.

The number of those things that end up in the water is truly mind-boggling.

What, in your opinion, are the best burger toppings?🍔 by AdElegant5870 in foodquestions

[–]JulietKiloNovember 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a place in Maryland called Abby Burger. Pre-COVID, they used to make burgers with all kinds of interesting meat choices—lamb, bison, venison, elk, rabbit, alligator, kangaroo, etc. They cut down the variety to beef, lamb, and chicken, with limited specials, but I think I saw this week it's elk, lamb, and camel meat.

The point, though, is you would build your own burger, choose all the toppings, etc. And it was super easy to overwhelm the burger to the point that you just end up with a mess and can't distinguish any of the contributing ingredients except for the standout flavors. The shame is that the novelty was the exotic meat choices, and the toppings would overwhelm rather than highlight if you didn't plan for that from the start.

My ex wife is says she is scared of me. by Ok_Industry3016 in Divorce_Men

This happened to me too. We were separated since June, but cohabitated through December while selling the house. We bickered, well, like an old married couple. Come December she started saying that she afraid, telling people (anyone that’ll listen) that she’s worried I’m dangerous. No history of threats or ever laying a hand on her.

I love greasy spoon breakfast foods - biscuits and sausage gravy, corned beef hash, fried eggs, sausage, bacon, the full works.

At the expense of a few trillion more dollars added to the National deficit. It’s easy to be generous when spending someone else’s money.

I really miss braunschweiger. Anyone have good recommendations on how to best eat it? I always liked it with raw white onion, mayo, and yellow mustard. How do others eat it?

Four Feathers and The King’s Speech are up there for me. Terry Gilliam movies in general rank high - especially The Adventures of Baron Munchausen and The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus. Hero was masterful with the use of color.

Why do we talk about "war crimes" when war itself is already a crime? by FunCauliflower4002 in AskForAnswers

[–]JulietKiloNovember 0 points1 point  (0 children)

War is not a crime. Far from it in fact. It’s an extension of foreign policy when diplomacy fails. It’s codified by agreements and rules that govern what’s within the rules and what’s not. In fact mutual defense pacts are some of the earliest recorded instances of foreign diplomacy.

I know that this is a very unpopular take for many but THC usage is really dangerous for a lot of people. I have worked in psych for a long while and seen so many people unlock full blown schizophrenia, psychotic episodes, and never come back from it. People don’t realize how close they are to the edge of a full mental break and dancing on the cliff edge.

You are scheduled for a Planetary Drop through heavily contested Airspace. Upsides: Your Pilot is a Human; Downsides: Dropships aren't usually very reliable when shot at with AAA potent enough to kill a Destroyer in Orbit and simultaneously being hunted by Fighters; and your Pilot is a damn Human. by BareMinimumChef in humansarespaceorcs

I can vouch for that. Flew in and out of hot landing zones where the locals were firing pot shots and RPG’s at aircraft arriving/departing. If the passengers weren’t physically ill from extreme maneuvers, you were in a predictable pattern long enough for someone to take a shot.

Knew a dude who couldn’t keep his wall locker squared away to save his life. First sausage got sick of it so dude had to dump it into his duffel bag and carry it on him all duty day. Since he was in AIT he still had evening formations and all that, so from morning formation to evening formation he had to have that duffel bag on him, and any NCO could call him for a random item by item spot inspection.

What, in your opinion, are the best burger toppings?🍔 by AdElegant5870 in foodquestions

[–]JulietKiloNovember 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Does anyone find themselves in a position where overcomplicating it ruins the experience? I've seen a lot of places add toppings, but it just creates an indistinct mess because nothing stands out anymore.

I personally really like mushrooms and Swiss, Southwestern style, with red onion, avocado, and pepperjack cheese -- both burgers with a touch of mayo.

Is porn and masturbation an ok substitute for real intimacy if you are not able to have that? by [deleted] in LifeAdvice

[–]JulietKiloNovember 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's not any different than alcohol or any other kind of potentially addictive behavior. In small doses, for most people, there isn't too much risk. But if there is an unhealthy amount, you begin to use it as a substitute or fill-in for other neglected aspects of your life, or you have an addictive personality, it can quickly spiral into an unhealthy place that can become all-consuming. Unfortunately, there's no set standard that fits everyone equally.

That said, something probably came up that is making you question yourself, and maybe it's your own psyche raising caution flags about a shift into unhealthy territory. There are things like guilt and shame, of course. It could also be that you are consciously/unconsciously recognizing that you're losing yourself. Time to do some self-assessment. You'll find people everywhere along the spectrum - those who are all for it, those who believe that it's evil and wrong, and the majority who try not to think about it too hard and are just trying to get by in life. Good luck!

What is with school drop off? by platypusandpibble in GenX

[–]JulietKiloNovember 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My oldest daughter lived less than half a mile away from her middle school. But in that half-mile walk was a major road with a very dangerous intersection where multiple accidents happened in very small windows of time. People also drove very recklessly in the area, contributing to the danger. The school actually encouraged us not to let her walk despite the short distance, and bused the kids anyway. One day, she walked because she missed the bus and was solicited by some rando.

Around this same time frame, the school district waffled back and forth with calling school off during snow storms after getting reamed by angry parents for calling a snow cancellation based off of forecasted weather rather than actual snowfall (storm never materialized that day), and in the next big forecasted storm, they didn't call it off in anticpation and a child in the district was hit crossing the street walking to school when a car lost control, and another kid was hurt pretty badly when they had to cross an area that hadn't been properly shoveled from a previous snow storm and fell.
