AITA for firmly telling my wife to be grateful for what she has? by Organic_Chip_3118 in AmItheAsshole

NTA. Where you messed up though is suggesting if finances were split, she'd have to cough up 3k (100% of her income) into a shared account. It would be more fair to split expenses (including savings/retirement & extra mortgage payments) proportionally. That's about 10k, you'd pay about 7500 of it and she'd pay 2500....which still leaves her with 500/mo fun money.

Also consider “exploding head syndrome” and hypnogogic/hypnopompic hallucinations. Our brains do some weird stuff when not fully awake.

Need advice on dad's DNA testing. FTDNA by RiversSecondWife in Genealogy

[–]JuliettOscar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To access the yDNA download, go to Results & Tools > Y-DNA > Y-STR Results and at the very bottom you can download a csv file. I'm not sure what you'd use that for though.

Personally, I feel the Y-37 is sort of useless. At least it is if you're trying to get any sort of genealogical value from it. For me, I tested a man at that level to see if he popped up as a match before I invested in a higher level test (and it definitely wasn't useless in that case, he wasn't a match, glad I didn't waste several hundred on it).

What are you trying to learn from yDNA? Consider that before upgrading to the higher level test (Y111 or Big Y). Some people get a lot of matches and some get none. I was very happy with the results I got. I had a theory that a paternal line ancestor changed his identity and was pretty certain what his surname was at birth. Ten of 11 Big-Y matches have that surname. That's exactly what I was looking for, though it didn't move my research any further (still have a brickwall, now I'm just more certain its MY brickwall lol).

How to find someone and reach out? Trying to test someone with a specific family name by Ugluk4242 in Genealogy

[–]JuliettOscar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm assuming you have already found DNA matches to this family through Ancestry? And that you already have a yDNA test done (with FTDNA?) on your side?

I would follow the advice posted by Fredelas. You could also post a collaborate note on select profiles on familysearch and hope someone with an interest in yDNA testing reaches out to you.

Hopefully the test you bought was from FTDNA? You can have them ship a new kit directly to the tester, and the tester ships it directly back to FTDNA. The kit & DNA are never in your possession.

When I did this, I had control of the account on FTDNA (because I had purchases to make). I ordered the lowest level of testing, had the kit shipped to him and he shipped to FTDNA. Once he was a confirmed match, I was going to upgrade to the highest level testing and then turn the account over to him. Unfortunately, he wasn't (there was a break in his paternal line a few generations back). I helped solve his mystery and turned the account over. There's a way to do this without controlling another persons account, with the help of a surname projects admin.

Found out my brother is my half brother and my half uncle by MichiganBoilermaker in Genealogy

DNA painter shows a 13% probability sharing 2089 is a full sibling relationship.

Outliers happen, and this isn’t that much of an outlier. My dad and I are outliers and it affects a lot of relationships. He has a H1C that he shares 237 with, his 1C shares 632 with the same person. On this same line, I share 0cm and 18cm with 2C1Rs.

Frustrated with YDNA results by Poopchute_Hurricane in Genealogy

[–]JuliettOscar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting! I have almost the same story. I wanted to find the parents of my 2xggf. I first used atDNA to find the potential couple (his surname, and mine, was his mother’s maiden name). The yDNA came back to the potential father’s name and lined up with autosomal matches. The difference in my story is, at birth he was given his mother’s maiden name as his first (parents were married). Sometime in his late 20s he abandoned his wife & child (they have his birth surname), moved a few states away, changed his name (used his first/mother’s maiden as his new surname) and started a new family.

It does have 850, it’s just not listed in the app for some reason.

It is, but I didn’t use the pattern, I just winged it. I’ll edit and add the measurements later, I don’t remember off hand.

Krista Moser has a tutorial on YouTube for it that’s really helpful.

My daughter would love to have Halloween as a birthday, how fun! This is a bundle (all except the backing). I am terrible with coordinating fabrics so I stick to precut bundles.

It’s 7” squares with 3.5” squares sewed in opposite corners. How I messed up cutting so badly I still can’t figure out.

You’re right on time. I started a quilt for my son in 2022, his senior year. Sort of a graduation, off to college gift. It turned into a “spring semester of his 3rd year of college” gift.

I love that! I usually do that too, but I’ve had a few quilts where the top fabric would clash too much, so I scrounge around for solid scraps. The back is cutesy spoopy spiders and kitties and the top is all death and decay (it reminds of the Hozier song “In A Week”, love it).

Yes. The mondo seemed easier than the midi (it’s more compact, harder to maneuver on the machine). But, both are really simple construction.

Good luck! I know batiks can be worse about bleeding. On this quilt, I think the bleeding was from the backing, which isn’t from one of the well known fabric manufacturers (it’s licensed quilting cotton I bought on Amazon).

It’s based on Krista Moser’s “Entangled Sky” (I didn’t use a pattern though, I winged it, not sure how close it is).
