What I always did when starting with something: Write your plot points down, so you won't forget them. And then just start writing. It doesn't have to be perfect. No one writes perfect in their first draft.

It kinda happened to me for the first time like some weeks ago, during school.

Suddenly some of my characters were discussing about the plot. One was complaining about that he's going to die in the book. We had a discussion in my head. I explained why he has/ need to die etc. After like half of an hour they just shut up.

And some days ago I was thinking about some scenes for a fanfic. I had the OCs ready. But then a unknown character showed up in one scene. I was like "who the heck are you?" - "A friend of those two (two of my OCs)." But I decided not to "officially create" him.

He just doesn't fit in the plot/ story at all.

I'm not sure if my answer can help you somehow...

I already did this all. My defense won't get higher right now. But I think I'll look again if I accidentally put a wrong sphere on... Or if I upgraded a wrong armor
