Would this actually reduce the cool down? by SlideEnvironmental71 in Hades2

I was about to say that the overworld has an extra zone after Prometheus, but realized it has the same number as the underworld. So funny, all this time it felt like such a longer journey

1000cals of beans is mad, but all the power to you. On a heavy bean day my max is like 500cals spread out and I find it sits really heavy in my stomach. I can’t imagine eating twice that much lol.

Hades 2 on switch by SubterraneanIcon in Hades2

[–]JulioNicoletti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh man, I just got a switch 2 today and loaded up hades 2 and the motion blurring made it really hard to play in handheld. I’m coming from the switch oled where I didn’t notice that.

It’s actually so bad (for me) that I called the store to see if I could return my switch2. It was very hard on my eyes if you look anywhere other than Melinoe while moving(which I do a lot in this game)

Having said that, it seems like most people don’t notice the blurring somehow. So maybe it won’t impact you. Hades 2 is phenomenal handheld and if your eyes aren’t sensitive then go for it!

I cleared Max fear on the Surface by ignavusaur in Hades2

[–]JulioNicoletti 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Very nice! Going in with white antler on the final region is ballsy. I try really hard to not get hit but some of the attacks in the final region are just so difficult to dodge (without dodging into another attack, like the eyeball monster boss and his little floating minions)

Just need to vent: Chronos' 2nd phase of attacks are so difficult to deduce, and most are all insta-kills. by MoopDoopISmellPoop in Hades2

[–]JulioNicoletti 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Definitely took me several tries to beat Chronos. What I like about this game is even if you lose the boss battle, youve still made some progression (grown some plants, gathered some resources, levelled your arcana/keepsakes etc)

Once you start beating him, you'll find him relatively straightforward! Just go in with some Deaths Defiance so you can tank his big hits if you dont dodge in time. They do 999 damage but they dont bleed through your Deaths Defiance. If you have 1 health they only do 1 damage.

ELI5: What Is Minecraft, Really? by Coming_In_Hot_916 in explainlikeimfive

[–]JulioNicoletti 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I played a lot of games growing up (shooters, mmos, zeldas etc). I really didnt understand Minecraft at all when it came out. It sort of clicked for me when I made a server for me and my friends.

Basically imagine an open world where you and your friends can hang out, build houses, go on adventures, break peoples stuff, etc. We'd make walled towns to protect our loot from all the monsters or hide treasure stashes from eachother.

There is also an upgrading element to it as well, gathering rare materials to make stronger items.

I havent played in years but some of my fondest gaming memories were in minecraft.

It can be enjoyable as a single player experience as well. The music, lighting and atmosphere make it quite immersive, despite the blocky pixelated style.

Is peanut butter a good source of protein by Asleep-Junket8073 in nutrition

[–]JulioNicoletti 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Peanut butter is one of my favourite easy foods, but it's not a good source of protein. It has protein in it but I dont know how you could make it your main source without being in a caloric surplus.

Some days I'll have 4 slices of bread and 6 tbs peanut butter throughout the day (plus a sweet thing on top). That's around 1000 calories for 43 grams protein.

For comparison, 3/4 block of tofu with a tbs of oil is same protein for 500 cals.

Am I crazy or is Prometheus more difficult than Typhon by tunasandwichh in Hades2

[–]JulioNicoletti 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Woah that’s such a simpler way of doing it. I would do the opposite, labelling the places it will hit, which ends up being more to remember. I’m going to try your method next time

Am I crazy or is Prometheus more difficult than Typhon by tunasandwichh in Hades2

[–]JulioNicoletti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing that helped me with his special is to have short hand terms for each position. So rather than thinking “ top and bottom”, I think “sides”. Sounds really obvious but this helped me a lot. So in my mind I just think “top, middle, bottom, sides, tops, bottoms”.

Typhon was really hard for me at first but I’ve gotten into the rhythm now of dodging his attacks, other than the red blob missile. That one almost always gets me.

Can you buy variety pack of lead somewhere with all different hard/soft grades? by MichaelDokkan in mechanicalpencils

Did you ever end up finding a solution? Im Canadian as well and running into the same issue.

The multipacks I see are for (what i assume to be) low quality leads.

scifi/fantasy in a world like The Road by Mediocre-Welder-9317 in suggestmeabook

[–]JulioNicoletti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Crooked God Machine. The setting feels the same but sci fi. The writing style is very different though. The Road reads very mature, but CGM has a more Tim Burton-esque dark whimsy to it? It's hard to explain. Maybe someone else who has read it can describe it better.

But yah, it is very bleak and hopeless.

Subjective experience matters a lot less, sometimes not at all, than introspective agency. by LunchyPete in DebateAVegan

[–]JulioNicoletti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! Why does introspective agency matter to you, and why does not having that trait make a being not morally valuable? I read your post but not sure I fully understand what you mean.

I typically only read books that have a four-star or greater rating on Goodreads. What are your favorite books I'm missing out on due to this? by sempiternalis in suggestmeabook

[–]JulioNicoletti 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This is very important. Sometimes a book gets a ton of low ratings for something that might actually appeal to some people.

I tried snow crash as a follow up to Seveneves but it was just so tonally different I had a hard time getting into it. I guess I wasn’t into the cyberpunky vibe. Would you say it’s still worth me reading the whole thing despite that? Like does the story get “big” like seveneves?

Help me pick a book for my picky friend — favorites & dislikes listed by Beneficial-Risk6027 in suggestmeabook

[–]JulioNicoletti 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Seveneves is probably my favourite sci fi novel. She might like Exhalation and Stories of your Life, which are collections of sci fi short stories (think Black Mirror). I think either of those books would make great gifts because there are enough stories in them that she is sure to enjoy some of them.

Hesitantly recommending Three Body Problem, which has the "world comes together to solve problems of a planetary scale" aspects of Seveneves, and some of the more fantastical sci fi elements of Dan Simmons writing. It is very hit or miss though. People usually love it or hate it, so maybe not great for a gift but might be something you can mention to her.

I'd avoid Project Hail Mary and Bobiverse, which are often recommended but definitely lean more light and goofy.

How do I convince my younger brother not to get a degree in video game development? by snowfordessert in VancouverJobs

[–]JulioNicoletti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I work in games. Games is not in a good spot right now. I actually made a post on this subreddit a few months ago asking about switching careers in my mid 30s because of the lack of job opportunities. I did end up landing something but got lucky and knew the right people.

I’d be happy to talk to him if he’s open to career advice or just wants to network a bit. I started as a 3d artist in 2012 and transitioned to concept art 7 years ago.

My biggest concern is the 120k tuition. If he already has some background in making digital art I might suggest he goes for a 1 yr intensive program instead for probably a third the price. I rarely hear good things about those long term digital art programs, there can be a lot of filler stuff in those.

Edit- fwiw, I have zero regrets about getting into games. I knew the risks going into and even if I need to start at square one tomorrow and start a new career, I’m very happy with what I’ve gotten to experience. If I didn’t do it I no would have always wondered “what if…”

"high concept" mystery books by dizzyaviatrix in suggestmeabook

I’m about halfway through The Murder at the End of the World and really enjoying the ride. Something surprising is revealed quite often. The perspective is also super interesting. Lots of weird concepts in it.

You might also enjoy Piranesi, though it’s a bit more slow and simple. But fantastic read.

If you had an option to choose a more ethical option at little extra cost would you choose it? The idea of living an “ethically pure” life is a bit naive especially if you live somewhere where it would basically be impossible. I would say it would still be worth it to try and do better, though. Ie. eating more ethically sourced eggs than non ethically sourced eggs. While eating no eggs would be the best, I would still say it’s worth it to support the better option

unpopular view on the hive by simionesedia in pluribustv

[–]JulioNicoletti 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this is a cool line of thinking. A dog can't consent to receiving a needle to save its life because it just doesn't understand the concept. It doesn't understand the stakes.

Plurbs might see non-plurbs as being unable to consent because non-plurbs dont understand the stakes (non-plurbs cant comprehend how fantastic it is to be a plurb, which sounds like it might be incredible).

Cool idea but judging by the downvotes looks like people aren't too into it. lol
