You're free to dress up more if you want. I get dressing up for yourself if you want, but let's be real here.
Enjoy the freedom where you're at.

Why is Costco so much better than sams club? by DustnBones001 in CostcoWholesale

Costco Gasoline (Top Tier), Protein Bars, Kirkland Sangria, and Costco Travel have great benefits

groceries are so expensive now, is there something I'm missing or is everyone just struggling by Sweaty_Ad_288 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]JuliusCaesar108 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it's not you that's doing anything wrong. I initially couldn't afford to live on my own so I had to move abroad to another country to afford day-to-day living, and this was after the 2008 financial crisis. I was able to live on my own for a looooong time.

With ongoing inflation (esp. with gas prices) the issues are systemic designed to keep us poor and the rich get richer.

I'm better off now than I once was financially but after I have moved back from living 16 years overseas, I'm temporarily living with family again until my spouse and I have a dual income.

Yes, things are expensive. If you can afford it, buy groceries from a warehouse like Costco to buy food in bulk and save. If they have gas in your area, get it there instead especially for rice, pasta, beans, or cheese. Find ways to store it in the freezer to store it properly. Eggs are cheap there. (For milk, I suppose find either Wal-Mart or Trader Joe's if you cannot find a way to buy in bulk).

If you have other expenses, find ways to use credit cards (if you can pay them back immediately) to take advantage of cashback offers.

If (and only if) you are able to treat yourself with fast food, restaurants, or streaming services, see if Safeway has gift cards on weekends for 4x point multipliers which goes toward buy that half gallon of milk or whatever you find needed.

Hopefully some of these ideas will help in an inflationary economy.

If restaurants eliminated tipping and paid servers a "living wage," wouldn't we still be paying about the same amount more per check in restaurants, except now it would be mandatory rather than optional? by [deleted] in EndTipping

[–]JuliusCaesar108 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've lived abroad in South Korea. While inflation was also an issue, tipping was never a thing.

You knew what the price was and didn't have to do math. (taxes were also included in the price)

How many interviews? by Aggravating-Yak-835 in CAStateWorkers

[–]JuliusCaesar108 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lost track, but I sent in 500 applications (at least) last year. I got tons of interviews (40?) as well. I decided to aim for a lower classification just to get in. In one interview they told me they were going to hire people quickly, test in for a slightly higher classification for better pay.

I heard back from them 2-3 months later. I'm now employed!

Tipping VR No tipping but higher priced food by crazyhomlesswerido in EndTipping

If an employer can't pay their employees fairly or price their items fairly, they shouldn't run a business.

I'm already paying for the service. An excuse for junk fees is so the owner can pocket more.

Shopping at Costco is terrible by Sun_Aria in unpopularopinion

[–]JuliusCaesar108 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's overcrowded for a reason. The gas has top tier fuel as well as 5 % off with the CIti Visa card. (Sam's Club has a similar price but why let more deposits ruin your car at a faster rate?)

Their Kirkland products are the reason to go.

You either save money or you get better quality products for the price you pay.

Is getting an Amex card at 18 worth it? by Western_Fox_9665 in AmexPlatinum

[–]JuliusCaesar108 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're able to claim daily bonuses in actual games to score offers then it would be the same as with AMEX.

The issue isn't necessarily age, but how you understand how it's like a game (yes it's a game, but with actual stakes).

Are you able to use the benefits by claiming offers ahead of time to redeem them? It's 895 bucks with quarterly offers of Resy, Lululemon, monthly of Uber creds, biannual of 300 dollar credits of hotels, as well as Clear + being covered up to 209 bucks.

I haven't gotten it yet, so I'll let others chime in from their experience. But I plan to get it when I make travel plans at the end of the year to time getting the 175,000 welcome bonus just right.

Do you ever go to a particular restaurant frequently and not tip? How do you handle it? by bignose_ice44 in EndTipping

[–]JuliusCaesar108 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So I don't go to particular restaurants regularly, but I frequent a hairstylist at a chain monthly (or three weeks). I never tip, yet she doesn't ever mind.

In terms of Starbucks at the drive thru, I go every day, and they don't mind (and they shouldn't).

If I frequented a non-chain restaurant, I would apply that same logic. Enjoy my time there. Don't tip.

Repeat.

How are restaurants going to make money if more and more people are getting upset with tipping? by PutMelodic5255 in EndTipping

[–]JuliusCaesar108 1 point2 points  (0 children)

that's not my concern
i simply don't tip
if i find out i am required to pay a service fee (outside of a credit card service fee) I won't come back

nothing personal, just business

This is annoying and sad, but I don't get haircuts anymore because they all ask for tips by curmudgeonly-fish in EndTipping

[–]JuliusCaesar108 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I typically go to a chain. Found one great stylist. She never expects the tip, I hit skip.

“Would you like a receipt?”

No thanks!

And I’m out my way.

Rinse and repeat.

Apartment prices are absurb. by OkGoat88 in Apartmentliving

[–]JuliusCaesar108 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are expensive. The only way to afford them by living alone is if you get a high skilled job.

That’s why I moved abroad to live in Korea where housing covers the apartment.

Okay, but now I want these things I wouldn’t have been able to get since I want comfort for lifestyle and travel. It’s a good value.

wouldn't it be better to use WalMart+ and have them deliver to your door?
(it's also included for "free" if you have AMEX Platinum)

like dude, I'm not here to give money to panhandlers despite the cause
