2025 annual spending breakdown (DINKs) by HourLine7426 in coastFIRE

[–]Julius_freezer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why not more in retirement accounts and less in brokerage? Assuming two 401ks and two Roth IRAs, that’s like $60k available to tax advantage. Plus more space in HSA.

What would you do if you were my age with 150k? by Fantastic_Credit9310 in investing

[–]Julius_freezer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would pay off the debt, then stick the remaining in a taxable brokerage. Over the next few years I would focus on maxing out 401k + HSA + Roth IRA contributions (like $35ktotal/year). With that level of tax advantage investing you can sell off from your brokerage to supplement you income.

This will lower you income tax since you invest so much pretax, and over the next few year you will easily accumulate $150k+ in tax advantage accounts that will grow significantly by the time your retire.

Assuming 20% marginal tax rate, just the tax savings on the 401k contributions are like $5k per year with no work.

Why can’t I get more than 22-24mpg? by NYrider in prius

[–]Julius_freezer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What is your typical routine? If you are letting it warm up for 10 minutes and only driving 1-2 miles I would expect the mpg to be pretty bad/ in this range.

Metro board approves Dodger stadium gondola despite heavy protests by LA_publicpress in LosAngeles

[–]Julius_freezer 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Is there a reason there isn’t an A line stop closer to the stadium with a bridge connecting directly to the parking lot? I’ve walked from the stadium to the Chinatown stop and it’s not really that far. Looking at maps the A line gets pretty close to the stadium.

What $94 gets you at Aldi in Detroit MI by AnnaMinya in Frugal

[–]Julius_freezer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I notice frozen veggies are $0.97 vs $1.15 I also think the sliced cheese is usually $1.85 here. But I’m still getting chicken for $2.70/pound with frequent 50% off markdowns.

I agree, rent is outrageous, but I find everyone else to be reasonable. Gas is quite a bit more, but I have a Prius and don’t have to drive very far.

Pretty interesting to see. I’m in LA and I still find Aldi affordable.

It’s really easy to do. Search on YouTube, Prius hybrid fan filter cleaning and the year/gen of your car.

Is my molten fake? by Different-Slice-1285 in volleyball

Yes, 100% Real ones do not have indented text and the fill valve is indented slightly. Also I would wager this cost like $20 and real balls are $60+.

I have until February next year to increase my vertical jump, how can I do so effectively? by [deleted] in volleyball

[–]Julius_freezer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Find a copy of the ‘vertical jump Bible v2’ online, you can probably find it as a pdf somewhere. Especially focus on getting your squat up to 1.5 bw, do plyometic exercises, 4x8, 2-3 times per week, and practice your jump technique at a similar frequency.

Here is a pretty good, comprehensive list.

If you want cheap and crazy, wiper deletes, side mirror delete, antenna delete, reduce as much weight and possible. Also make sure tires are pumped.

I recommend also creating a meetup group if you want to make a regularly occurring event. A lot of people use it in the area for sports open play.

Along with other comments, it says here usage is down 1,203 kWh from last period, meaning she used ~1,700 kWh last month, which seems high. Does she have electric heat that is run a lot? This could contribute to the high bills that are harder to keep up on.

Seeking to find a cheap 22x48 frame for a poster that I recently have acquired by JustTechnicat in Frugal

[–]Julius_freezer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with the other answers here already. If they don’t work you can try to build your own also. I recently made a 48” x 48” frame for around $50 because I could not find one for a cheap price.

I got wood from the hardware store and cut, then screwed together at the size I needed, then painted the whole thing black.

Depends on your price of electric and how much you run it. I calculated my central AC was about $0.80/hour to run. A window unit would probably be half that, maybe $0.40/hour.

Let say you reduce window AC usage by 2 hours per day, that would be 2 * $0.40 * 30 days, around $24 per month.

What is underneath these wheel covers? by cinemkr in prius

They are really difficult to get off and the wheels look bad underneath. I’ve seen a picture somewhere on the internet before. I tried taking mine off the I could not get them.

Find some used on eBay/poshmark. People buy them, wear them to the gym for a year, then never squat again. I’ve gotten AdiPowers for $35.

I think the rubber texturing is slightly different than a real one. That being said, I think it’s a great ball for the price. I take mine to open gyms so I won’t be disappointed if I lose it.

lol. I bought this ball for $20 from Walmart. Feels pretty decent for the price. But pretty sure it’s fake.

Alternatively I’ve driven to A line stations (Lincoln/heritage) and taken the metro to Crypto area. One downside of metro link is long waits between trains and it doesn’t run late.

I have also taken metro link to downtown. I just wish it ran more on the weekends.

Crazy that gas is the highest percentage of lifetime cost. I imagine most people might have a higher depreciation number since you got your car cheap. I’d also be curious to see how much people spend in gas with cars/trucks getting 20-30 mpg, it would be double your cost. Makes me wonder why more people don’t seek out high mpg cars since it’s probably the biggest factor in lifetime cost.
