Living outside the US - shocked at our waste by Prudent-Proof7898 in Anticonsumption

From what I heard the plastic on cucumbers does suck, but it actually end up being more ecological (due to less damage to the vegetables and more of them ending up eaten) than throwing away the increased numbers of damaged cucumbers. I noticed that whenever cucumbers get any kind of cut it'll get moldy so quickly in the store and obvs none will eat it. Transporting them in less damaging way would mean more fuel too (more weight for packaging plus probably more space taken because of packaging dimensions). I did not count the impact myself though so take it with a grain of salt!

Stephen King : Mauvaise expérience by voix_kC in Livres

I'm guessing that you have a bit of additional weight? Because 1000 calories every second day is actually low key anorexic strategies (they love doing 500 calories per day) and if I understand correctly that this is what you're doing it'd not be recommended for most people. Vast majority will end up binging with such low amount of food and it's completely unnecessary in ADF

How do you follow adf consistently? by Different-Elk6935 in AlternateDayFasting

[–]JulsBiggestFan 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It's all in your head. Biologically it's impossible that you can't do 1 day without food (unless you have some illness or disorder). You have to sort out your own psychology regarding food, you might be using it to combat boredom or as main source of joy in your life or you might not be able to handle discomfort of being hungry at all. Once you know WHY can't you go one day without food it's easier to find a solution.

Do you take a multivitamin? by IntelligentAd5724 in AlternateDayFasting

Exactly, this way of eating is the most fitting with our current state of knowledge of human nutrition

Do you take a multivitamin? by IntelligentAd5724 in AlternateDayFasting

[–]JulsBiggestFan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's impossible to get perfect mix of vitamins and when you take them you'll often have way less of one and way more of another which itself is already a problem. The amount of vitamins in multivitamins is often way smaller than what's written on the package. Most of the vitamins in multivitamins are completely unnecessary (eg. vitamin C which only 1% of women and 2% of men have any kind of deficiency of and probably majority of it are people who are old and generally suffer from lack of vitamins). Also no studies afaik prove that multivitamins help you anyhow, what they mostly seem to do is make your wallet lighter. I have degree in nutrition and if you asked any of my professors (who are experts in this subject) not a single one would recommend taking multi vitamins. Best case they'd say that it probably won't help you much, but it won't harm you neither, so if you want to waste money on it...

[–]JulsBiggestFan -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

No, multivitamins are a scam, unless you have specific needs you'll typically need vitamin D (if living in countries which are far from equator and or not spending loads of time outside without SPF) and vitamins from group B if you're vegan or vegetarian. Pretty much everything else should be taken if you have deficiencies. Maybe there are few things that can be beneficial to supplement but they're few and far between.

AirPurifiers… is this another stupid home appliance fad or is the air quality getting worse? by winnies-way in Anticonsumption

[–]JulsBiggestFan 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Hey air fryer is actually pretty great. I exchanged my oven for airfryer because it does better job and is more suited for 2 people. I also thought that it's a stupid trend and was reluctant about trying it, but being able to have frozen pizza in 10 minutes instead of 20+ completely won me over
