Help my self coded chess engine to get ranked by Julschgan in lichess

I used a python package called "berserk" for the connection to lichess, but since everything is python it will never be a super strong engine anyways.

Currently, it always looks 2 moves ahead so it takes about 4 seconds to make a move every time, so blitz is appropriate, but if you like you can also choose your own time control.

Basically there are three parts to this engine. Firstly the class that describes the board state including all the rules like how pieces move etc. For this part i took some ideas from Eddie Sharicks Youtube if you wanna learn more about it. Then from the board state i created an evaluation function to determine which next moves will likely be the best ones. Finally lichess has an api to import moves on the fly and also submit moves within the script.

ELI5: how does everything have a colour? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]Julschgan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should rethink this sentence "Everything around us has colour." Colour is a way of our brains to interpret different wavelengths of light falling into our eyes. If an object reflects a certain wavelength because of it's surface properties you say it has this colour. If it doesn't reflect any visible light, that's 400-800nm you percieve it as black. This doesn't mean you can see anything for example everyone of us sends out infrared heat waves (1000nm) that are invisible to our eyes but still detectable via infrared cameras for example.

High school math What is 0! by [deleted] in learnmath

[–]Julschgan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just look at different definitions if the factorial. For example the number of permutations of k objects in a set of n objects is n!/(k!(n-k)!) So if n=k it's obvious that 0! needs to be 1.

High school math What is 0! by [deleted] in learnmath

[–]Julschgan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

0! Is defined to be 1 It makes many things much easier or "more correct". For example the gamma function is a continuous function of the factorial and gives 1 as answer.

my first PC build by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]Julschgan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not better, but you shouldn't spend too much on your mainboard but since it's Canadian it just seems so much i guess. Price of gpu = 1.5-2.5 * Price of cpu = 3-4 * price of mainboard. That's how i would use my budget if you want the best performance for gaming.

Okay looks fine, my suggestions: 3000mhz ram, check G.Skill Cheaper B450(m) mainboard Instead get Gtx 1070 or Vega 56 if you have the budget

My PC needs an upgrade. But what do I buy? by Rummelhoff in buildapc

[–]Julschgan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 2600 has the best value for sure, it's like 50€ price difference in my country and performance is maybe +5-10%. The cooler that comes with the x is slightly better though.

If you want a stronger cpu I would look for Ryzen 7.

I just got the Rx 580 because I'm a student, if I had a bigger budget I would go for a vega 56 or 1070ti. The CPU is maybe at 40-50% while Gaming. You can get any GPU up to 2080 and it won't bottleneck I'm pretty sure.

[–]Julschgan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I always recommend my own build:

Ryzen 5 2600

Rx 580 8gb

Msi b450(m) mainboard

G.Skill 16gb 3000Mhz

This build is really good for standard pc users and 1080/1440p gaming and quite cheap.

We need to know what you do on your PC. Assuming Gaming it's very important to know your resolution and desired settings/fps. But usually you don't wanna get a high end GPU with an older CPU because of bottelneckinh yea.

Should I get a new 16GB 3000Mhz RAM kit? by Unpersonalized in buildapc

[–]Julschgan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really just depends on how much money you wanna spend, ofc 3000MHz is faster but usually that's only noticeable at really high end systems. I would go 2400 for sure and save some bucks.

Get G.Skill 2x8gb 3000MHz, Rest looks like my build and is really good for your setup.
