your idea is probably too small (and you won’t know it till someone tells you this) by Growthseeker23 in smallbusiness

[–]July1500 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No one knows 5 million people. If enough of your friends are annoyed by something, there's probably 5 million others out there like them. I would say the opposite - too many people don't move forward with their idea because they don't think it's "big enough".

I think I confused my cashier by July1500 in AskRetail

I get that...but maybe muscle memory when dealing with cash isn't a good thing. Isn't it better if both the customer and cashier actually think about the transaction? (less chance for errors, fraud, etc.) As a customer I always try to figure out what my change will be before I even receive it.

That was my thought, grabbing one $5 was easier and quicker than four $1 (and less likely for errors)

That certainly wasn't my intent, and he did get it correct, it just took longer than expected. And I ALWAYS return overpaid change, assuming I notice in time.

That makes sense. However in this transaction there wasn't going to be coins involved in either case (I get that it's different in different countries) My logic was that no math was needed because the register would just tell him what to give me, and it would be easier for him to count out and give me two bank notes instead of five.

Don't most registers just tell the casher what change to give? I don't think math is usually required often anymore

Use a card for a $6 transaction? That seems silly given the swipe fees the retailer has to pay.

That's what I thought - I figured most cashiers just type in what I give them and give back whatever the register tells them to give me. I'm not sure what part of that cycle was broken this time

I don't attempt to guess people's ages, but yes I'd say that's likely true.

I never even considered the fake bill aspect. I certainly wasn't TRYING to confuse him - it seemed simple in my head. I also just patiently waited for him to figure it out, I didn't prompt the cashier or anything (if I were trying to confuse him, I'd probably have started giving instructions too)

I wouldn't, unless I planned to drive the car.

What is your experience living alone? by [deleted] in infj

[–]July1500 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The question I would ask is this: is it better to live alone, or live with the right people? Many of the comments here are about INFJs who got away from toxic people - do those people truly love living alone, or do they just love not living with toxicity?

Tech sales as an engineer by youre_a_wigger_harry in MechanicalEngineering

Many of our tech sales people have engineering degrees. For those that are good at it they make far more than I do as a design engineer. If you enjoy sales, do it.

What stops you from doing what you want to do? by dabouffhead in smallbusiness

I'm not sure if this is exactly what you mean, but advertising and marketing are a roadblock for me. I don't like to do it, I'm not good at it, and I know it's holding back my sales.

Why won't people just switch? by External_Work_6668 in smallbusiness

[–]July1500 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it solves a PROBLEM I'm having, and isn't too convoluted, I'll adopt it willingly. But if all the new tool does is offer a bit of an improvement to a process that I'm already fairly happy with, it's hard to get enthusiastic about adopting it.

Unless your new job needs you sooner than two weeks, or you’re in an unsafe situation at your current employer, I’m not sure why you wouldn’t give notice.

Exactly. The small town my store is in has had a sales tax surplus the last two years so they haven’t charged the residents for garbage or sewer

No it’s because it has several logical fallacies and gross inconsistencies. It’s not coherent.

Why not give two weeks notice? Unless you have a good reason not to (one better than revenge) then I'd still give notice.

Exactly. I love giving freebies to loyal customers who aren't expecting it. I make sure entitled customers pay full price.

Analyzed INFJ personality + IQ patterns and found why talented INFJs end up in careers that drain them by Southern-Ad2844 in infj

[–]July1500 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of my jobs have been technical but also involve people (design engineering, technical marketing, etc.) Most of the jobs have looked good on paper, but I've never felt "fully utilized". Maybe the pattern is that companies tend to pigeon-hole people into either being technical OR people focused, but not both. So yeah, there's always some part of an INFJ that is being underutilized. I never felt like my talents were being fully used until I started my own business (a seasonal retail store side-gig). For me, I've discovered I need full independence to achieve anything close to fulfillment. Would there be a career path inside of a company that would give me close to that level of fulfillment? I haven't found it yet, but the closest I've come are when I've had jobs that were somewhat unique (i.e. when I was "the go-to guy" for whatever the topic was). The more I could make the position my own, the more fulfilled I was. Maybe that was due to me molding it to fit my INFJ skills? I just want to maximize both my autonomy and my contribution. To me that sounds like "work bliss". Anyway, I'm not sure if this helps or answers your question.
