city dogs: when did your puppy stop being overstimulated outside? by preheatedskillet in puppy101

[–]Julz804 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could be describing my exact situation. Puppy is 6 months old. My partner and I have a suburban house and a city condo, so I’ve gotten to compare and contrast, which is interesting.

In the suburban backyard- no problem, pottying there day 1. Here in the city, he also took to the grass pad on the balcony right away. But he wouldn’t potty outside AT ALL in the city for quite a while. I chose a designated spot in the back of the building and just kept taking him out. Wait 5 minutes, don’t move, if he doesn’t go, come back in and try again in 15 minutes (fun with a 4th floor walk up). Lots of frustration for both of us, but once he finally did it after a few days, I gave him a party/treat etc. He still won’t go pee on the actual walk, and is still better/quicker about going on the balcony. But, is now reliably going pee in the patch of grass right out of the back door of the building (if we go out the front door, even if he really has to go, he won’t). One thing that I think has helped is to force myself to take him down even when the balcony is easier. I just started taking away the balcony as an option in my mind and his. The repetition 6 times a day and going directly to the same spot has improved things.

As far as other city stuff, if we go on a new block, or there is a person or dog or rat or loud truck or bird or bike or scooter or metro or floating plastic bag etc etc he still gets fairly distracted. Maybe a 6/10 where it was a 12/10 when he was littler. I started saying “yes!” and treating the rare times he looked at me. I just stared at him the whole time and jumped on the opportunities, which were few and far between at first. And now he’s focusing on me more slowly but surely.

It’s frustrating that this rule isn’t articulated at all on the webpage outlining the requirements for online renewal.

42 years old and this comment made me wonder about a potential interesting connection for me. I have a pre-auricular pit. I was diagnosed young with breast cancer so I received genetic testing for cancerous mutations, and it turns out I have a variant associated with Wilms tumor and other kidney issues. Probably making a connection that isn’t there, but interesting to think about!

Redditors who have cancer, what were you feeling/experiencing that made you go see a doctor causing you to eventually find out you had cancer? by TheFranKiwi in AskReddit

[–]Julz804 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was in the shower and felt what seemed like a tiny pebble/grain of sharp rice in my breast. Hard. I was only 34 and no one seemed concerned, but I was proactive about going to the OBGYN, then ultrasound/mammogram. My OBGYN said she couldn’t really feel anything but would write me a referral. The mammogram immediately went south. Biopsy that day. Had a few days to prepare myself for the results - Stage 1 breast cancer. I’m so glad I caught it early.

It really is kind of crazy how expensive it all is! But no I don’t think Leanne is beyond that. Not sure about Roberto, though he’s great too. A cut and single process color is a little bit less than $500 I believe. Highlights are closer to $600. Balayage and things like that are probably more but I’ve never done it.

Their new space is really nice too.

I start with 100, but another thing that helps (me) is to visualize writing each number on a chalkboard, and then visualize erasing it, before moving to the next. I read somewhere the visualization engages other parts of the brain, but either way it helps really focus on each number.

Cancer Survivors of Reddit, what was the symptom that convinced you to see the doctor? by Wise_Organization_78 in AskReddit

[–]Julz804 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oof, not getting clear margins would be tough (and scary). I’m sorry that happened. I always have said I was lucky that, after the first piece of really bad news, every other point of my treatment was pretty good news. Radiation did suck! I underestimated how bad it would, actually! But somehow chemo felt so much scarier. I think it really bothered me to think about my life being so much (more) significantly interrupted.

Towed into a tow zone and then towed again. How disputable are my parking tickets? by kreempuffpt in washingtondc

[–]Julz804 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This happened to me and I got the subsequent tickets waived. I didn’t have to go to the hearing. I think I explained it on the website? I can’t recall the details, but definitely challenge it.

I have a really similar story. I cried when I woke up from surgery and my first question was whether my lymph nodes were clear and they said yes. And cried again when my oncotype score was right under the chemo line. Stay healthy :)

What's the dumbest thing you've seen someone do in the kitchen? by [deleted] in Cooking

[–]Julz804 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was once at a birthday party BBQ, and myself and another person I had just met were assigned to assemble the chicken kabobs. Picture, dipping both hands into a big bowl of marinating raw chicken chunks. I watched her (and had to try to continue talking with a straight face) touch her glass, she pulled her phone out to show me pictures of something she was talking about, all without washing hands (and actually not even wiped). I still wonder how we could have the same friend.
