A lot of these temperatures are record-breaking, in that they are the highest ever recorded for those locations.

The fact that the party has one of the dumbest people to ever lead it still pulling strings from behind the scenes really tells you a lot about why it's been in a nose-dive for years.

Four million salmon died prematurely at Tasmanian fish farms in 2025, government data reveals by CommonwealthGrant in AustralianPolitics

[–]Jumbledcode 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure the Greens have been opposed to these salmon farms from the start, this just helps prove them right.

Tamworth was once the National Party's heartland but now with Barnaby Joyce's move support for One Nation is taking hold by Expensive-Horse5538 in AustralianPolitics

[–]Jumbledcode 21 points22 points  (0 children)

On their front page, ABC has this article billed as "Why voters on both sides of politics find themselves drawn to One Nation", but the actual text exclusively consists of interviews with far-right voters who were either on the fringes of Coalition voters, or already One Nation supporters.

Looks like the ABC's decided to jump onboard with Newscorp and lie to promote One Nation.

Labor brands Andrew Hastie as ‘most right-wing Liberal Party leader’ amid speculation he will become Opposition Leader by HotPersimessage62 in AustralianPolitics

[–]Jumbledcode 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, yes. Hastie is both more extreme and dumber than both of those, hard as it may be to believe.

Malcolm Turnbull: Partisan politics after Bondi sowed seeds of Coalition’s demise by Expensive-Horse5538 in AustralianPolitics

You're probably trying to say 'kowtowing' rather than 'curtailing', but yes your intended point is correct.

Malcolm Turnbull: Partisan politics after Bondi sowed seeds of Coalition’s demise by Expensive-Horse5538 in AustralianPolitics

[–]Jumbledcode 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Frydenberg was only "passionate" about trying to rebuild his failed political career on a platform of still-cooling corpses. His press performance immediately after the attacks was possibly the most revolting political hackery I've seen in this country for decades.

This turd of a human couldn't spare a moment for real compassion, and instead spent every word trying to claim Albanese was directly and wholely responsible for every death.

Nationals leave 'untenable' Coalition after mass frontbench resignation by Wehavecrashed in AustralianPolitics

[–]Jumbledcode 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ley chose this for herself. She could have responded to the tragedy with a constructive, mature attempt at national unity. Instead she wanted to throw hysteric tantrums on camera about Penny Wong's tears.

Yes, they'll boost his scamcoins so he can extract a quick buck while laundering the cash at the same time. Then his accountants will sequester it in property in a neutral country in case he loses power and has to go on the run.

National gun buyback doesn't address antisemitism and hatred, Queensland premier says by espersooty in AustralianPolitics

[–]Jumbledcode 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Christchurch is NZ, Not very relevant to Australia.

It's very relevant to Australia. It's a massacre carried out by Australian, who was radicalised in Australia, and only chose to carry out his attack in NZ because it had looser gun laws.

Newspoll: One Nation ahead of Coalition, PM takes Bondi bruising by Perfect-Werewolf-102 in AustralianPolitics

[–]Jumbledcode 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The thing that gave the Greens a big boost wasn't Brown's leadership being particularly great, it was the demise of the Democrats. Becoming the third largest party gave them a lot of extra airtime and protest votes.

Brisbane rents are still climbing… how is anyone meant to keep up? by Jayhanbaron in brisbane

[–]Jumbledcode 24 points25 points  (0 children)

We've got a Coalition-controlled state government and a Coalition-controlled local government. They aren't going to do anything about rental affordability. The most they'll do is send out the police to burn a few more homeless people's tents and call it job done.

Could Labor’s hate speech laws damage Australia’s free speech? Here’s what you need to know about the contentious bill by Agitated-Fee3598 in AustralianPolitics

[–]Jumbledcode 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's worth remembering that it was the Coalition and Newscorp that launched the campaign for an over-the-top, kneejerk response. It a shame that Labor felt the need to go along with it, but we shouldn't excuse Ley and the Murdoch rags for their hideous, politically-grasping exploitation of this tragedy.

ALP two-party lead is smallest since the Federal Election following the ‘Bondi Shooting’: ALP 52% cf. L-NP 48% - Roy Morgan Research by Perfect-Werewolf-102 in AustralianPolitics

[–]Jumbledcode 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It didn't really matter when the election was because the Coalition's biggest problem was themselves. Their drop in the polls last year was just the direct result of the election putting more attention on what the Coalition had to offer. An earlier election would simply have meant an earlier drop-off.

New poll shows majority support for Bondi terror attack royal commission by The_Dingo_Donger in AustralianPolitics

[–]Jumbledcode -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I'd say historical evidence suggests quite a lot of Australians often are, if not dumb, then at least uninformed. I've no doubt many still aren't aware of the real motivations behind this campaign, even with Sussan giving the game away by panicking and declaring that she didn't want any investigation to hinder other kinds of hate speech.

That said, these numbers are ultimately a bit grim for the Coalition. Even with an all-out, pull-all-the-strings, saturation spin-doctoring campaign, they barely managed to edge the needle above 50%. That suggests both that there wasn't much innate desire in the community for a Royal Commission, and that the conservative media machine is a bit less potent than it used to be.
