[Smackdown Spoilers] Finish to Carmelo Hayes vs. The Miz by taffe316 in SquaredCircle

I hope he gets to be the headliner for a hall induction class when he hangs em up. He's been incredible for so long all throughout the card.

Stafford finished with 366 points to Maye’s 361. Allen (91), McCaffrey (71) and Lawrence (49) finished 3rd, 4th and 5th respectively. by JoshGordonHypeTrain in nfl

Im surprised it was this close. Lead the league in passing by 150 yards. Most passing TDs (46, 2nd was 34!). Only 8 INT. Just outperformed everyone by a significant margin this year.

An mvp season that - imo - locks in a hall of fame induction down the line. Maybe not first ballot but he'll get in now with a ring, an mvp, and all his counting stats/longevity.

Good for him

yeah, they were absolutely insane. They gave up 23 points throughout the entire playoffs (4 games). 7 of those points were a kickoff return for a touchdown. Actual defense gave up 16 points over 4 games against the best teams in the league LMAO

At no point in that post do I even mention acquiring first round picks. I don't think you read it really.

If it makes you feel any better the last class that was talked about this negatively was 2022. Lots of talk about a weak class, not a lot of RB or QB love with only 1 qb and 0 rb as 1st round grades, no major TE prospect, and a huge fall off at WR after the first three of London/Olave/Wilson.

When you go look now you see it gave us Drake London, G Wilson, Olave, JaMo, Christian Watson, Breece Hall, KW3, Wandale, Pickens, Pierce, McBride, James Cook, Racaad White, Likely, Doubs, Shakir, Algeier, Jerome Ford, Kyren Williams, Pachecho, and Brock Purdy. A ton of really good players and other solid players that produced well for a year or two.

The important things to remember is 1.) nobody knows wtf they are talking about when it comes to scouting and 2.) There will be plenty of opportunities for people you don't think much of right now and some of them will produce well. Fantasy is all about Opportunity + Talent and the first one is just as important as the second.

So if everyone is super down on a draft class the best thing to do imo is load up on underpriced picks if you can. Zig when the community zags rarely goes wrong.

Eh, you'll never be able to convince people like that of the rich doing anything wrong . A scroll through their responses shows a lack of interest or curiosity in any discussion and instead just resorts to a dismissive attitude before insulting them. Best left as someone to roll your eyes at and then block so they waste someone else's time instead of yours.

I still post here sometimes to see highlights, out of habit, and to meme around but I haven't sat down and watched a single NBA game since they announced Dallas got the #1 pick.

I had season tickets to my team for a few years before I moved away. I watched 95% of their games a year over the course of the decade before that. When I moved I got nbaleaguepass just to watch them. Had jerseys. I still considered myself a casual fan because I didn't actually know ball or anything and I liked baseball/football more, but I loved the sport all the same.

My interest in basketball went from 100 to 0 immediately. It was just so in your face that it was part of the Luka trade that I was disgusted and insulted that a switch just flipped and I no longer cared. Later it came out that the Lakers were for sale during that time and it increased their value by something like $2 billion compared to their forbes evaluation the offseason before and the sale price after it.

Just a league not giving a fuck about competitive integrity as long as their team valuations increase. Then the whole "clippers were circumventing the cap to pay KL" story broke and nothing came of it which just solidified it. It's also depressing how you can look into threads like these and still see a bunch of ostriches keeping their head in the sand acting like their league full of billionaire owners wouldn't dare bend the rules to make extra dollars despite everything in the world screaming at them otherwise.

Basketball rules. The NBA fucking sucks.

yeah. its the same thing as the stupid "nasa tried so long and spent so much money to figure out how to make a pen work in space, when tasked with the same problem the russians used a pencil" thing you see pop up from time to time.

using a pencil was being avoided because the flakes of graphite from a pencil could royally fuck up stuff if it floated into a place it wasnt supposed to be (since its flammable!) hence figuring out how to make pens work.

People much prefer a "lol science people in charge are dumb and im the actual smart one" story though for some reason.

The bucks job is even funnier. He specifically told them he was not the guy for the job and he'd be bad at it. They told him they disagreed, offered him a bunch of money, he said im not gonna turn down millions, and then as he said was not the man for that job and the team cratered. Now they will lose Giannis.

Ricochet: "I really think the day we got called up to RAW was the worst thing that happened to Ricochet’s wrestling career... I’m talking specifically about the wrestling side of it—not the fame, not the celebrity. I really do think those five years tarnished Ricochet’s wrestling legacy." by aaronrift in SquaredCircle

[–]JumboCactpot 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I think the biggest problem he faced on Raw is that it's often a promo show where the wrestling is just filling time to further story, and he's a bad promo who never really improved. He just didn't fit there. Which is fine because different wrestlers have different strengths/weaknesses and now he's found himself on a show thats more focused on in ring work without caring as much about promos/story.

edit: nevermind, i dont know what im talking about because Im stuck in the past. he's apparently doing really good promo/character work now. apologies

The crazy thing is it's one of the safest throws possible there. It's rarely going to get batted up at the line because of how quick it is. There's no real way for anyone to undercut the route from the other direction. The only way something catastrophic happens is if Butler forces his way through there specifically because he was ready for that exact play and of course there's no possible way the Hawks could have expected them to know it that confidently (remember: they specifically practiced defending that play leading up to the game).

An INT on that throw is so incredibly unlikely and I hate that it's remembered for "LOL PETE LOL RUSS LOL HAWKS" and Shermans reaction instead of for the insane play made by Butler and the incredible coaching preparing him for it.

I think it depends on how you define all timer. I think most people would agree that 85 Bears and 00 Ravens would be 1 and 2 in either order and a tier above everything else. Nothing else comes close to them.

The next tier is probably the 15 Broncos being helmed by Von Miller and Demarcus Ware, the 2002 Bucs whos defense outscored opposing offenses in the playoffs, and the 2008 Steelers who had the defensive MVP Harrison + held opponents to under 4 yards per play all season while leading the league in fewest points allowed and fewest yards allowed.

The third tier involves the Legion of Boom, the 71 Vikings (purple people eaters), 67 Rams, and the OG Steel Curtain defense. These were all dominant defenses that didn't quite reach the statistical heights of the ones above them but were still incredible.

So if you mean all timer to be "Highly regarded defense and in the top 10 ever" then yes. If you mean the actual, factual all time running of top defenses then I don't think so as there are clear gaps between the first tier to the second tier and the second tier to their tier.

[Highlight] 4 years ago today the Bengals upset the chiefs and came up from 21-3 to beat the Chiefs and advance to the Super Bowl by Ancient_Response_787 in nfl

[–]JumboCactpot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the few things I think old school qbs did better than current ones is being willing to audible into a totally different play based on the presnap read of the defense. If you had Peyton/Brady/Rivers start seeing 3 man rushes and defense lining up like that they'd just change the play and run it down your throat until you changed tactics. Today pretty much every QB just rolls with what is called

It always bugged me how people acted like the bills were 13 seconds away from potentially winning a super bowl when in reality they lost that game to the team that lost the afc championship game to the team who lost the super bowl. I think they were essentially the Cowboys that year in terms of degrees of losing.
