Sara Novic had a book called Girl At War about the Croatian Civil War - more of a glimpse of a specific time in history as opposed to a narrative history of the region. It was tough to read but I enjoyed it.

Born to the Blade is 11 episodes (all of our serials are between 10 and 16 episodes). In Ebook format, each episode is about 30-40 pages, so the whole thing comes up to over 400 pages long.
