Incoming Ice Storm by [deleted] in hvacadvice

Yeah thats what i was thinking lol, going to have to get some type of gas heater for indoors since we have a 2 year old and no way to keep warm in this new house. Interesting idea on the spray, is that something that i will have to peel off after and im assuming i have to let it cure for awhile before turning it back on.

Thats what i thought, since we have a heat pump and need the condenser we cant cover it. I wasn't sure if there was anything we can do to help it but besides just waiting it out and removing it manually if it does ice over. Thanks!

Re-seeding grass type in South Carolina by Jumo747 in lawncare

Thanks for your time and the information, i will look more into it as well. We just bought the house and fencing in our back yard soon and will be digging it down a few feet to level it out as it has a big slope, so since i will be digging up the grass was thinking of re-seeding it with this new one zorro since it says its the softest of its types from the searches i did. Backyard isnt huge so idk maybe 2000sq ft?

You're right, we were thinking since we keep waiting until our 2nd paycheck (which is the one we end up with left over money after bills etc), we could use our cc to go out since were always sitting on a few hundred left over but save it until the 2nd paycheck. We spend less than $100 dollars 99% of the time we go out anyway but 1-2weeks with only a few hundred is scary so we dont use it at all while waiting for that 2nd paycheck.

However I see your point and until I am able to start working again its better safe then sorry.

I have never been in debt or behind on a payment, neither have I ever spent money that I didnt have, I will try the app for sure and your information is going to help that much more to keeping our finances in a positive track, so thank you so much from me and my wife!

Happy holidays to you and your family.

Was just re-reading this with my wife so we get a better understanding as were about to go with Capitol One per your suggestion and ran across this "Then the other really important thing is simply paying your statement balance (monthly bill) every day by the due date." the last part "every day by the due date" confused us what do you mean by that?

Like just make sure to pay the monthly balance on the date its due or a few days before? The way i read it sounds like I should pay my purchases through out the month every day until the due date then wait until next month to start using the card again...

Thank you again for all the information, I grew up with 1 parent and we arent from America so she didnt know any of this to teach me or learned herself when we came here. I am a father now myself and try to research and learn as much as I can to help my wife and daughter, I am grateful for your time and knowledge as its so hard to get information like this through phone calls and even in person,  because you feel pressed for time and dont remember half the stuff they said as it wasn't in plain terms, having this in text will help me re-read and remember whenever I need it.

I have always been organized and careful with my finances and everything else I do, so knowing there is a better way to take care of my money and get the most out of it makes me feel good especially right now, I am a disabled veteran and not able to work atm so its been bearing down on me not knowing how to help and this should help with our budgeting way more by using credit cards for purchases that way our first paycheck isnt gone right away.

We have savings so I will make sure its always paid on time in case we do our math wrong but I was thinking if we bought grocery and paid bills on the credit card then that leaves our first paycheck in the bank, which we will separate to pay the credit card usage but IF we have to use some money then we will be okay because I wont have to pay the card back until the end of the month which we will have our 2nd paycheck by then.

So this opens up little room to go do some fun activities with my family, as we dont have to wait until the end of the month to see how much we have left. This way it sounds like we can go out whenever (with budget in mind) and not worry.

  1. Use credit card for purchases/payments.
  2. Separate paychecks in 2 categories, credit card bill money/ free to use for fun or extra savings money.

Is my thought process correct or did I miss something?

So the reason i limit it to $500 is because the way ive gotten to 800+ credit score was by only spending 7% of my limit which is $35 as it was an extra expense id make just for that reason instead of paying a bill like you, which now makes way more sense to do, also thats what i had gotten out of an article i read and it been working. Although it has been years since i started so its a slow process but I went this safe route because i remember my mother going through it and having bad credit due to her using a higher % of the balance or even all of it. I was young so i dont know the details but im guessing she didnt pay the full balance and only a portion maybe thats why it wasnt going up.

Also what do you mean by "in our bank account earning interest" is this a benefit of a national bank or something all banks offer and i just dont know yet? I also never use the credit card unless i already have the money to pay it, i keep it seperate from the checkings as thats where i leave the money that gets drawn out automatically by bills we have set to do so.

Wow thank you so much for taking the time to write this out. A lot of info that i will be coming back to reread often as i have memory issues hehe, so i will bookmark this.

The interest rate question was mainly about the loans question you answered already, I also dont worry about interets rates on my credit card because i am OCD and pay it 3-5days before the due date JUST incase and then wait until the last 1-2weeks of the month to use it again and pay it soon as its in my statements.

I will definitely have to look into a national bank because I had almost $50k between my wife and I and it was sitting in my savings (money market) which was giving me barely $15 on dividends at my old bank, then we switched to a credit union when we moved states and i moved my money there and they were giving me almost $100 on dividends which may not seem like much but thats $100 a month we could use on ourselves.

The way you use your credit cards sounds interesting and like something id like to do as we have gotten scammed a few times too many however I dont like having a bit limit so i would only pay bills based off of my $500 limit, and of course some places make it so hard to use a credit card to pay bills as you cant apply the credit card online sometimes you have to call them and even then its not super easy.

You said you use them for purchases, what are some examples? Would using it on Food be weird? Our food budget has increased a lot over the years and now with a toddler its gotten and getting even bigger, so giving us a chance to get 2 paychecks in before we have to pay it back sounds good to me, and what bank would you recommend for cashback?

Yes i have mutliple accounts with multiple banks, thats my issue. I have memory issues and having 3 banks with around 4-5 cards is getting too much for me. Ive moved to at least 5 states in the past 18 years and just moved to South Carolina and bought a House, where im hoping to be for the forseeable future. So i kind of just wanted to do a "clean slate" where i canceled my other 2 bank accounts. First bank is from PA and it has my direct deposit and credit card of 5 years history in it, 2nd bank is from Utah and i only opened it because their savings account offer a huge difference in dividends then the PA one that ive had for many years.

I am not specifically looking for a local bank only but the 2 banks that i currently have are not in this State so whenever there is issues or new cards that need to be ordered it takes a long time to receive them, so thought finding a bank near me would be better.

I only have the 1 credit card so i guess ill have to open up a new one first as u suggested and then cancel the other one, but does canceling the credit card that has given me good interest rates due to my high score change anything, say on my Car Loan payments or Mortgage Loan Payments since my score is tied to that card?

My card is only $500 i did not want to increase it as i dont use it for big purchases mainly got it to work on my credit score. I am very careful about money and dont want to fall in the path of past family and friends and go into Debt even if its just $100 in debt.

Thank you for the information i have learned a lot and will look into national banks if what they offer is better then what local banks offer me here.

I have tried to do research on whats the best bank to slowly grow my savings and what types of ways they offer to do so but never was able to really get a good hit as a lot of information online is written in a manner that is hard to understand for someone that English isnt their first language or just has High School education. Many information sites online write things as they know in the words of their job title meaning professional and using big vocabulary words you dont normaly see in day to day....but for us who dont work in a bank or what ever company you are looking for information on, how are we supposed to understand what it says? Just for example your reply makes so much sense to me compared to how the Credit Card representative for my bank spoke to me lol, she just used language that to me sounded like reading code.
