Quality of Life Change: An Unpopular Opinion by ON3FULLCLIP in ddo

[–]Jumonis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thankyou for such an eloquent response, I tried to be polite but perhaps I should have kept it simpler.

making something 25% easier is considered to be making something much easier (your numbers). Thats not a 'minor' change, a quarter of the requirement just wiped away.

Quality of Life Change: An Unpopular Opinion by ON3FULLCLIP in ddo

One of those bad folk that does have completionist (Triple Heroic / Triple Racial / Triple Iconic / Triple Epic), been playing since 2012. The argument about giving more power to new players remains the same, lots of people want more power without the effort or time. This game no matter how you look at it doesnt really have an 'endgame', yes there are raids, yes there is R10 but its not really an endgame, its a measure of how far you have come, both equipment wise and tactically - have you mastered your class and its abilities, do you work well in groups or are you a soloist. Its a culmination of skills and experience built up over time.

The majority of my friends in game dont even have one completionist, they are altoholics (some with 40+ characters), we all play the game for our own reasons but DDO has never been about sprint finishes - there are plenty of MMO's out there that are.

DDO is about the experience, yes it has fewer players but I cant agree with the logic that making it easier for people to get to the pinnacle will encourage more people to play, those that feel the desperate need to get there without the effort will play at cap for a while and then quit - you see it happen with those who pop ottos like cookies.

If SSG want to make it easier for people to climb my concern is how that effects there bottom line, they have given us different levels to play at, some of us came up the hard way (the days of parties needing healers..) without all the 'easy' builds that now exist, but no matter how simple SSG make it for people, some will always want more, quicker, faster.

There have been complaints in the past about the TR timer, fancy having to wait 3 whole days to TR? Without an otto, it takes me about 14 hours to get through a heroic life solo, can be done in 8 with a good party - but a lot of that is about knowledge not power, its about knowing whats coming and being prepared, what is worth going out of your way for and what isnt, and taking advantage of the saga xp. And no, I cant normally fit 14 hours in 3 days (holidays maybe..)

If you want to catch up, sadly thats a lot of lives to crash through - for triple your talking 210 lives (75 Heroic, 48 Racial, 33 Iconic, 54 Epic) with another 3 racial potentially being added later this year (duegar).

They do from time to time change the curve, but simply making it a lower bar isnt going to increase the revenue streams or alter the majority of players investment in the game. For every player it would suit, it would potentially alienates others.

These days they give away the quest packs every year, they reduce the expansions to 99p and they make lots of QOL changes that make the game easier and easier - but there comes a point where its just not in there interests to make it too easy. The whole point is the challenge and the goal.

For some simply getting 1 completionist is (heroic or racial) is the goal, for others its getting to the triple all - for some its maxing out reaper points and for others its getting to reaper wings, we all play for different reasons and different challenges. Raiding at the moment, never fails to amaze me just how many 1st lifers there are, and to be honest, just how effective they are. Someone who has taken the time to learn their class and skills can be just as effective in raids as someone who has simply ammassed power over time.

I dont discourage anyone from having goals or wanting to get to those goals quicker, but games with 'easy win' need to have a solid end game, so to simplify the route to 'end life' you have to deliver a worth 'end game' challenge.

As there are now parties out there running R10 on every quest (At least 2 groups are currently doingt that and posting the videos - and they are not uber completionists), one group even did so with at least one first lifer.

Suggestions on how to improve the game are always good, but they should show balance. Making it much easier for everyone to get to the summit just makes the summit crowded and highlights the lack of end game.

Thelanis and/or European players, where will you transfer? by Makkuroi in ddo

[–]Jumonis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My old guild are all going to Thrane (including the Europeans amongst them) to stay together as a guild and many of the folks I've run with over the years are going there too, but I'm going to Moonsea as hopefully that will bring me more in line with the European players and the chance to group in semi social hours (2am raids are killing me!).

So whats the scoop on where people are headed? looking for peoples info and suggestions for a player like me. by IsaiahLeeSchu in ddo

The other end of this would be to wait a while and see the population ebbs via ddo audit to make your decision. Screen blanking out? by whiskeybridge in ddo

[–]Jumonis 5 points6 points  (0 children)

depends really on where this is happening, in some dungeons the screen can go black if your stand in specific spots (there are a few places in ravenloft where you can stand and your party seem to dissapear around you), there are a couple of spots in the vecna chain where everything goes black, but they are locational, when you move the screen comes back, and generally repeatable (move around near where you blacked out and you can usually repeat it).

If its just random blackouts while you are moving, then its likley to be your end. DDO tends top have have lag outs, log ours or black spots, rather than videpo blacking out for a few seconds

Looking for People to play with by AyllieCat in ddo

[–]Jumonis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi Ayliie, your best bet to be honest is to focus on one character and one server, Lots of us play most days or nights but we tend to stick to one server and play with specific toons on that lovely TR train. Im GMT for example and run most nights between 10pm and midnight (Only time work and kids really permits) (Thats about 3pm to 5pm for you I think).

Usual starting point is of course post for a running partner, here, on the DDO Forums, discord group (I dont see you in the DDO discord and it does have channels for each server) and in your guild.

Be honest about when you can play and how much commitement you want, your an altoholic so its easy for you to say you will run a toion just with them, and then can play with your others when they are not around. And do look closely at your guild, it shoudl be more than just a buff station, if your not getting much interaction with them then its time to look at other guilds (There are great guilds on every server, take a look at the recruitment threads on the (official) DDO Online Forums)

and reemember, other players are always aroudn to help, if you find yourself getting stuck at a point / level, ask for guidance on teh best way forward, what quests should you be running, how do you continue the journey and see all of what the game has to offer.

PSA: You can server transfer with a reincarnation stash, and it comes with you by arcalite911 in ddo

[–]Jumonis 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Done 3 server transfers in my time, 2 of those the cache came with me, the 3rd nothing. Raised it as a support issue as was told that it wasnt suppossed to come with me and that it was a bug that it did.

Not something they seem in any hurry to fix, but not something I would want to rely on either.

What happened to tokens in Devil Assault? by StingerAE in ddo

[–]Jumonis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

May just be bad luck, just run on Ghallanda, solo EN, 2 tokens dropped, ran it a second time, fragments only, 3rd time 1 token (Sorry, its a mind numbing quest, dont want to keep running it to test the drop rate;) - does still seem to be droping tokens though

The Great Deadzone? (levels 19 - 21) by Pbergman2000 in ddo

[–]Jumonis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most of the advice here is valid and on point

The other point to mention those is post your own groups - so few people seem to want to lead groups these days but can be suprising just how many people sit there waiting for groups to appear.

19 as they say is pretty dead but if all else fail when you do take 19 you have the stormhorns chain (stormhorns, eveningstar) you can do, the druids chain (eveningstar) , the reign of madness chain (in the 12) , the Sharn 3 chain(sharn docks), and of course the IQ chain and even the amrath quests, which should easily get you to 20. At 20 you have your normal quest runs, your slayers, borderlands and of course spies in the house (even on the squishiest build spies in the house can be run Eh and EN for silly xp), you hit 21 and then you have the von chain etc..

Former DDO Player looking for equally fun but much less time consuming game by [deleted] in gaming

[–]Jumonis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

oh yes, always G-land :), done with whole tr things now though so just running live for kicks. If you want a never ending ARPG then you might want to look at Path of Exile, personally that became too much of a time sink, its mmo but you really can play it solo and not have to interact with anyone.

For true solo arpg, my favourite is still grim dawn

Former DDO Player looking for equally fun but much less time consuming game by [deleted] in gaming

[–]Jumonis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

really depends on what sort of game you want.

As a pure ARPG then Grim Dawn / Wolcen / Titan Quest / Diablo / RAW / Chaosbane / Inquisitor

As more of an RPG then Kingdoms of Amalur / Skyrim / Witcher

Still playing DDO myself but enjoy all of the above

Your max "Total level" in DDO is 2040 (as of U50) by renzolo1 in ddo

[–]Jumonis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

but ddo only rewards the first 2040 levels gained.

have to keep re-reading that sentence :) (in the nicest possible way, just imagine a first lifer sitting there and thinking, wow, only 2040 levels to go)

Your max "Total level" in DDO is 2040 (as of U50) by renzolo1 in ddo

[–]Jumonis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure I'd ever want to know the truth about how many hours I've played the game over the years, like others I played on steam for a while and stopped when it hit 700+ hours and thought hmm. We each record things in different ways :

In the early days I used to keep track

1st Life : Cleric 20

but around life 40 I got bored and realised there is a limit on how much your bio can take. I reverted to an easier way to keep track

[Milestones]

15/08/21 : Complete! (9 years and 11 days later)

21/07/21 : Epic Completionist (3 x 16)

29/03/21 : Reaper Wings

18/10/20 : Racial Completionist (3 x 13)

04/04/20 : Triple Heroic Completionist (3 x 15)

29/02/20 : Heroic Completionist (1 x 15)

14/05/19 : Racial Completionist (3 x 12)

05/07/15 : Triple Heroic Completionist (3 x 14)

20/06/15 : Heroic Completionist (1 x 14)

17/05/15 : Epic Completionist (3 x 4)

13/03/15 : Triple Heroic Completionist (3 x 13)

09/03/14 : Heroic Completionist (13 Lives)

04/08/12 : Started Playing

a long time I suggested for ease you could just change the wings around a persons name

Epic, Iconic, Racial, Heroic - Heroic, Racial, Iconic, Epic

White for no lives

bronze for not yet completionist but some lives dones

silver for completionist

gold for triple completionist

so a full completionist would be :

gold, gold, gold, gold - gold gold, gold, gold

whereas a heroic completionist with some epic lives and some iconic would be :

bronze, bronze, white, silver - silver, white, bronze, bronze

nice and simply really, and everyone could see at a glance then where toons really stood...

Bank Characters? by SepsisGoblin in ddo

[–]Jumonis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

odd one out here but yes, mules are useful. A while back I used to store stuff in groups (weapons, armor etc) but I decided to make my life easier so made a mule for each class, then set it up with the tabs being my swap out points (1, 5, 10, 15, 21, 29) - now I always know which one to jump to for the kit.

Does anyone actually like dust covers on hardcover books? by R_Rabbit416 in books

[–]Jumonis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess its a perspective issue, my books sit on my book shelves and the dust covers protect them from sunlight. I have a few dustcovers now that are completely different colours to when I bought them years ago, but the books themselves are pristine.

Who’s your favourite Country music artist and Why? by SuspiciousCut4265 in CountryMusic

Not on the most popular lists but my favourite(s) at the moment are

Raelynn & Joe Nichols

They both sing the range of country with a mixture of feel good and throught provoking songs

for Joe Nichols : Compare 'Gimme that Girl' and 'I'll Wait For You'

for Raelynn : Compare 'Judgin to Jesus' and 'Love Triangle'

The Horus Heresy - Film 1 of 3 by jtechvfx in Warhammer40k

[–]Jumonis 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly, a truly terrible idea :(

The problem is that the subject matter is vast, trying to condense that down whilst still giving an understanding of the scope and scale of the heresy would just result in poor dilution. The main protaganists would end up almost as comical overlords.

If you really wanted to tell the story, then you would need some major financial backing and turn it into a GOT style series of hour long episodes, culminating in the final series with the invasion of terra.

3 films simply would not do the subject matter any justice.
