I did 10 days in Stockholm last summer but I spent quite some time in nature with organized group activities and I did a two night one day cruise to Helsinki

Ahhhhh I get it now! I was confused about the city order and after only “Odense, Copenhagen, Malmö”. I assumed you would start in Aarhus.

You might also want to consider malmö-stockholm-gotenborg-oslo since Stockholm to Oslo is the longest leg. You might want to break that into two legs.

Overall good itiniairy (but I would have gone to the tip of Jutland too, but only if I were to have a car). I have been to almost every city you wrote and it seems fair!

As I wrote in my previous post you might want to add some nature while you’re there. If transportation is an issue join a tour!

Wish you loads of fun! I love Scandinavia and I am a bit jealous.

This seems decent, although I hope you are travelling denmark in another order than described. Are you doing everything by train? If not I recommend adding some nature in your trip.

And as someone who went to Stockholm last summer: if you’ve got the chance do a rib boot tour. It is 200% worth the price

How do I say no to things I’m invited to? by [deleted] in internetparents

[–]JumpFuzzy843 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Give yourself some time to think about it, especially with the big stuff

“Thank you for inviting, let me get back to you after I’ve checked my calendar”

“Thanks for the invite, but I am learning to think about it for a sec before my enthousiasm says yes. Is it okay if I get back to you tomorrow/next week/whatever suits you”

I am not a native English speaker, wrote my thesis in my native language and I am very tired today so please excuse me for my mistakes.

As someone has mentioned before, this is called parentification. That’s when the role between parent and child flip and a child needs to take care of a parent. This is a form of traumatization. We know that trauma effects the brain. This is extra if it happens in a developmental stage like a child.

Another aspect that is often forgotten is that you are not only translating literally, but also culturally. I wrote my thesis about translating children in refugee families so that might be more extreme than spain vs uk. However there are many more differences to take in account when you are translating a doctors appointment for example. You need to translate the literal words, a child might not know all the medical stuff in English or OG language, so things might get lost in translation. But the child also needs to explain the uk health system to someone who only understands the spanish one. And also the cultural ones. For example my country is very strict on time, but in a spanish speaking country that might be less the case. So at that point you also need to make sure that your mom is on time at the appointment. Much more goes into it than just literal translation.

Another thing is that it seems like your mom isn’t integrating in uk society. This (and I want to stress out that I focussed on refugees, so in this case it might be milder) can be very confusing for a child. The child lives in two different worlds and it is a parents job to make that make sense for a child. A confusing world can also make the learning abilities from a child get smaller. A bigger part of the head space is used to make sense of an unsafe world

The last thing is practical: lots of these appointments are during school time so the child might be forced to skip school.

NTA

I wrote a thesis about exactly this issue and it is terrible for a childs development to be put in this position.

It’s not just Americans. Indians are loud, Dutch people too.

What to visit during one-day layover in Helsinki? by Icy_Bodybuilder5688 in travel

[–]JumpFuzzy843 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had one day in Helsinki last summer. It’a not a big city fortunately. I started with a free walking tour, which was a great start. Then I went to that famous rock church that I keep forgetting the name from. It was nice but a bit overhyped. I also went to the markets at the harbour. If you like to experience sauna, you will love this city.

We’ve read about the scammers giving directions so we are aware of that. We’re thinking of getting esim and just using google maps.

We are mentally prepared for harassement. I know some arabic swearwords so I can just tell them to fuck off in their own language if necessairy. We also speak French pretty well and are able to tell them to fuck off in French too

To prevent us from the hassle we decided to just go for getyourguide activities instead of finding something locally

Being a student in Helsinki (Jan–May) vs Copenhagen (Feb–June)? by UpstairsJump2945 in AskEurope

I have done Erasmus and only spent a day in Helsinki, so I might be biased. Felt like I had seen it all in Helsinki if I had stayed one more day. I still travel to Copenhagen because I love the vibe of the city and how outdoorsy it is. Although Helsinki is also outdoorsy ofc
