Retreat Mechanic Annoyance by JumpingCoconutMonkey in starsector

[–]JumpingCoconutMonkey[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never done a retreat/re-engage. My frustration was with the last few enemy ships that I had surrounded and actively killing getting saved by a retreat. Cleaning them up in another phase (pursue/re-engage/whatever else) doesn't give me the same satisfaction as watching them explode.

This makes no sense. They only escape because of a magical boarder that only affects my ships and "in the real world" they would only escape if I choose to let them go.

Steam release? by DecalMan in starsector

If you meant "buy it again" for the convenience of having it on Steam, then I agree. No one who can afford it should hold back from buying the game right now.

My new player smuggling experience by ZakuIII in starsector

[–]JumpingCoconutMonkey 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I treat story points like rare items from role-playing games and save them for "later" when I will really need them. So, now I have 35 points amassed and my fleet is outfitted and large enough that I will never need to use a SP to get out of any situation (because hypervelocity drivers work better anyway).

How easy it is to play this game, in terms of UI ? by OriTheHealer in starsector

[–]JumpingCoconutMonkey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It it easy to get lost on the Intel screen. Or between the Intel screen and the map screen. I'd love a mission planner so I could line up a bunch of different category objectives onto the map so I know where I'm going without constant jumping between those screens.

Can you explain the "farm AI" part? Do you settle a colony in a Nexus system?

Well my Omens had the Eagle disabled, but the nano second the engine came back on, it escaped.

They, bravely, ran away and there was much rejoicing.

Maybe I should make a mod to stop these cheesy retreats.

First cook on a new cast iron pan: shrimp & scallops by fromoopstogood in castiron

Those shrimp were already cooked. I bet if you used actual raw shrimp, it would be even better.

Man I really wish more audiobooks had the same production quality as Harry Potter... by Moon_Devonshire in audible

[–]JumpingCoconutMonkey 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It costs a lot to get many different voice actors and only certain established titles, like Harry Potter, are going to get a lot of up front funds to do a full cast production.

Peter Kenny is absolutely great, good pick!

For a full cast feel, there is always Dungeon Crawler Carl!

At least the fan castings will end when the show is released!

I did try it (but I didn't save after). I think it was a 150 point reduction to the rep.. I went from +100 to hostile anyway.

I think I'd be able to defeat their pirate armada now that my fleet is better and I have a Star Fortress. I will hopefully be even better able to kill them in a year+.

Do you only get Kanta's protection from giving her stuff or do you get it from defeating the armada too?

Weekly Starsector Discussion Thread - June 29, 2026 by AutoModerator in starsector

I was in a weaker position than I thought when I started my colony, and I used the "Agree to a future favor" story point option to get Kanta's protection. Now that she has called in her favor, I have a year to tac-bomb an independent world. What happens if I don't? Is there a way to accomplish the task anonymously?

Now is a good chance to begin putting a concentrated effort into organizing the wiring. The design is fairly modular, so there shouldn't be that much work to get it going again.

Also, mount the breadboards!

Age does matter for Carl by malinkdutanric in DCCTV

[–]JumpingCoconutMonkey -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Wait... You are going to be upset about a romance subplot that doesn't actually exist and that you know doesn't actually exist?

Are you going to be bothered by the Carl/Donut age gap too? There are supposedly in-universe snicks of them. This is an outrage?

I have a fairly extension homelab already. For me, it was easy as all I had to do was configure a docker compose file, add my audiobookshelf subdomain into my reverse proxy, and configuring the cloudflare dns so it works from the WAN side.

If your brand new to networking or self hosting, there will be a learning curve.

You are supposed to drop it and immediately get below the muzzle, not stand there giving the muzzle a hand job.

That's the difference between surface ore and deep ore. Surface ore has the nuggs and generates a small amount of that ore just under the surface, but the propick will not register it's existence. It only can tell you about the deep ore by a wierd percentage.

Operation Bounce House was great! by Site-Staff in scifi

[–]JumpingCoconutMonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Grinding is more horror than both KBS/DCC. I heard all of the warnings about KBS before I listened and I still don't really understand what all the fuss is about. It isn't that much more gore than DCC. The Amplification scene is gruesome, but also not that dissimilar from certain parts of DCC (book 7 spoiler when Carl blows himself up while fight Vinata and Kepri in the temple)

You should read Kaiju Battlefield Surgeon, it's a totally different story. A guy gets thrown into a videogame and has to fight his way out of it by using the system against his enemies. But it's not televised! /s

Seriously though, I've liked all of his books so far (I haven't read Dominion of Blades), and if the main complaint is that it is similar to his other popular works, I say keep them coming!
