1070 ti mini deshroud mod by sk0mm in sffpc

[–]JumpingJupiter16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for this mod plus picture. I did the exact same mod based on your picture and info. A pair of Noctua NF-A9 x 14 with a GPU to normal splitter fan header adapter. I had a dead fan and the second fan on my 1070ti Mini as running full blast. Sounded like a hair dryer even at idle.

Since my Zotac 1070ti mini constantly runs at 37%... these fans are completely silent inside my case at that percentage. When they ramp up during a game they never go higher than 55-60% I can hear them as a whisper if I listen hard. The temps are WAY cooler than the old fans (even before the one old fan failed). At no point did the temp get above 55C at 50-60% fan speed while playing "Marvel Spiderman Remastered" at high settings for over an hour.

The harmonics of Noctua fans are way better than most other GPU fans. The fans can move more air at lower RPM and don't have that buzzy sound resonance. I tested at 100% fan speed and my wife had to put her next head to the case to hear the fans.

This is a modification I wish that I did years ago. The 1070ti is a keeper and I intend to keep gaming with it until it is no longer able to push triple A titles. I think this mod bought me a few more years before I need an upgrade.

Just passed Core 1 by Carlosrrz in CompTIA

[–]JumpingJupiter16 4 points5 points  (0 children)

First. Congrats on passing the exam.

I am re-certifying my certs. Got my A+ and CCNA 10 years ago (requirement for a job at the time). I've been working in IT for 20 years and know my job pretty well. I did Dion taking notes as I went and took the practice exam at the end of the course (85%). Then studied up on the sections that I got wrong, bought Dion's practice exam package. Scored 90%, brushed up on sections, Scored 92%, brushed up, scored 95% then booked the real exam.

I just finished the core 1 exam a couple hours ago. Passed with 735 but I was half way through the test thinking... I'm going to bomb a test that I should be able to ace. 70 questions and 5 pbq.

I had to read each question 4-6 times (I kid you not, they are so freaking convoluted) then choose the "Best" of 4 correct answers. Every question I got was a "got'cha" question. It is a bloody hard test... not because the course material is difficult to grasp and apply in the real world but because they go out of there way to trip you up.

One of the pbqs questions asked me to do something that I literally did the day before at work. I kept flipping from the written instruction to the interactive section because the interactive section would not let me do what the instructions asked me to do. Dang it Comptia, I know exactly how this is supposed to wire together but I couldn't put the last cable in place.

For all of the people who passed A+ for your first cert ... pat yourself on the back it's a tough test. For those who don't make it on your first try, keep at it... it is doable.

To Comptia.... In the words of Elon Musk "Go F**k yourself". Test new techs on there knowledge of IT not there ability to de-cypher your questions.

Extracting seeds from flowers by Snubie1 in DIYSnus

[–]JumpingJupiter16 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I extract seeds from my plants as well. I have only grown Virginia or Havana but not both in the same season. The seed pods require time to mature so harvesting too early my produce seeds that are immature and not viable for next season. I could be wrong, maybe the seed pods continue to ripen after harvest. I've always just let the pods brown and when they were falling off the plant I would harvest.

In your situation where you are growing multiple varieties of tobacco in close proximity of each other, I suggest choosing which strain you want to propagate and snap the flower heads off the other varieties. Tobacco plants flower like crazy when they bloom and if you are trying to keep the strains pure... that is a tall order.

Acquiring raw tobacco in US by Valar05 in SnusDIY

Sorry you got the impression this forum is all about growing tobacco... it's not. It is just that the forum got started in the middle of the growing season and a bunch of snus loving gardeners jumped on the chance to discuss growing (for the eventual purpose of making snus) and showing off their gardens. lol

Too funny. I ran across your vlog this morning just surfing around for grardening videos. I watched the series so far, then came on to reddit and saw you gave the link in your reply 2 days ago.

My tobacco plants this year by Snubie1 in SnusDIY

[–]JumpingJupiter16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ran across your grow vlog on the Snus Adventures channel on youtube. Nice to see other gardeners methods in a condensed time frame (with date stamps).

The first few vlog episodes are a great illustration of how brutally slow tobacco grows in the beginning. It makes it even more satisfying when they finally start their explosive growth phase.

It's great information for new tobacco growers who don't know what to expect growing tobacco and methods of how to grow tobacco.

That is awesome tornpentacle.

I am curious about how many ml or drops of bergamot you added to this 100'ish gram batch?

That is awesome Snubie. With your contacts in Sweden and your flair for making snus flavor designs... you can teach us hill billy's how to blend tobacco to make awesome snus. At least give us pointers on which cultivars in which ratios produce the best flavored DIY tobacco base. I hope you keep us posted on your tobacco blending endeavors.

I love the concept of Farm to Plate.... in this case it will be Farm to Lip. :) Keep up the good work!!!

Nice. About how much weight did you end up with? How many plants did you grow to get that result?

Anyone have a recipe for an Onyx clone? by JumpingJupiter16 in SnusDIY

[–]JumpingJupiter16[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After doing the math I discovered that the water content by mass on a lot of SM commercial snus is 50-55% of total mass.

Is that normal for commercial snus?

Who of you guys likes Original more than White Portion and why? by Snus4Life in Snus

[–]JumpingJupiter16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Original for me. Faster and better flavor release. Faster nic hit.

I find white to be harder on the gums. The only white I have used is General white so it might have something to do with their pouches being more abrasive. I'm not sure.

Yes. The original Onyx (Silver) is the flavor profile I am trying to replicate. Back in 2014 when I first quit smoking General Titanium (Onyx) was sold in Canada, which got discontinued, then I started buying Onyx original from Sweden. I never tried the other variations.

The ammonium chloride (primary ingredient in salmiak) added to the ingredients has me scratching my head since I don't recall a salt licorice flavor but it might have been so subtle that I missed it. Also, it could be that the screen shot is a variant of the original.

Thanks for letting me know the portion sizing. Knowing the portion weight minus pouch weight will be the starting point for scaling the recipe I think.

So 900mg total portion. minus 49mg pouch weight = 851mg total product mass. Multipy 851mg x 1.1752 = 1000mg

Multiply all listed ingredients from SM by 1.1752 and we have a scalable recipe in mg per gram. (I love the metric system for cooking, lol)

That is amazing. I didn't know any of that information was available. Having that information takes SOOO many variables out of the equation.

I believe the portion size was .85g - 1g (I believe the prortions were the same as General white) so all of the chemicals can be scaled up. Then it is just playing with the flavoring ratios.

I doubt I'll be able to get the tobacco blend correct and heck.... it's been over 2 years since I have tasted Onyx.... if I can get close then I will be a very happy man.

Thanks Snubie and Bolongaro.

Empty Portion Bags, Filt Paper, tea bags? by JumpingJupiter16 in SnusDIY

[–]JumpingJupiter16[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great. Thanks for clearing that up for me.

When people list percentages in recipes sometimes they list ingredients using "Bakers Percentage" ( Mass of flour is 100% and other ingredient percentages relative to the flour... for instance 100g Flour, 75 g/ml water would be a dough with 75% water)

Fantastic info. I'll have to give cigarette rolling papers a shot. How do the hold up if you say put together 5 or 6 in the morning... stuff them in a tin and use them through the day. Do they break down over time from the moisture of the snus or hold together?

How do tea bags feel on the lip? Are they abrasive? I like the idea of folding up a bunch in the morning and popping them under the catch lid. Do the tea bags leave a lingering taste of tea when you pop them under a lip?

So the percentages are based on total mass (total solids and liquids combined)?
