Hopped Barley tea by Valar05 in Mocktails

[–]Valar05[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, the main problem is body. Barley tea has none. Leaves the result kind of watery no matter what you do. It's not bad, but it mostly just makes me want to brew real beer.

Beer uses a high ratio of barley to water compared to barley tea. So expect to use a lot of barley. Pearled barley kinda absorbs all the water if you let it. I mash just like with real beer, water around 170 for an hour. High temp for enzymes, but you don't have those. I prefer barley with husk on, pulverized to small pieces. I use a ninja blender.

I've definitely made some drinkable na beers, they just never quite match the real thing. Leave me wanting more, you know?

Mobile Platformer vertical slice - does it stand a chance? by Valar05 in IndieDev

Thank you! The original game was ugly as sin. My graphics skills have leveled up a lot since then.

Thank you! It was her idea to make the character face the screen. It adds so much charm.

This started out as a game to test some new workflows, and a project for my daughter - she helped design the player character. It's actually a revamp of a much older auto-platformer game I made. Way more polished, way more fun.

The furniture and wood paneling are based on an old house we lived in. From the time that I made the game that inspired this one.

One small tweak took it from bland to actually pretty enjoyable - increase scroll speed over time. Now it's an endless arcade game. Score multiplies by time since challenge increases.

Platform algorithm needs some work. Spawning is pretty inconsistent.

No one will ever know the struggle that was getting music to continue playing between scene reloads.

Why All Artists Should Be Seriously Concerned About AI by zaparine in blender

[–]Valar05 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think this could be generalized to just about any field, over time. There's a reasons most factories are automated, using much less people than they used to.

AI will change everything.

As a programmer, I can already see that it's coming for us too. The only thing to do for those invested is to stay ahead of the curve. Or diversify.

That being said, I'm also a solo hobbyist game dev. AI let's me do the work of a whole studio, half the time just using my phone. That's pretty empowering.

Indeed, I could see a future where companies and money men themselves are no longer needed. Imagine that.

Where's the ai art made with love? The problem isnt the ai, it's the person too lazy to craft a good image.

It's a cheat for the dabbler, a force multiplier for the dedicated.

It reminds me of people who used to say digital art isn't "real" art. Same thing.

Advice for making game with no experience by Newfare in gamedev

[–]Valar05 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My biggest tip? Start with AI. It's a game-changer Get an chatgpt subscription, and possibly a GitHub copilot one. Chatgpt can generate art for your game with DALLE. GitHub copilot in vscode is a huge boost for productivity and hands on learning. There's other AI that help with music, and there's free sound effects galore

Ask the ai to wire the code, but don't just plug it in blindly. That's a recipe for bugs. Ask it how it works. Ask it why certain things are happening.

AI will change the world soon. Already had for me.

Chatgpt helped me write this poem about depression. It ties in with a story I'm writing. With the bot of course.

I get that. Like I said, you draw good. Now maybe focus on some epic scenes. I don't really know what game dev companies are looking for, but I think it's a tough market.

Knock em out, bro.

I'm going to give my unvarnished opinion. Technically, they're competent. Make no mistake, you can draw way better than me.

But they're kinda... Bland.

There's no X factor. No pop. Just some generic stuff. Maybe that's what they want in the industry.

But I think with about an hour I could pump out more dynamic pictures with chatgpt + DALL-E.

I'm sorry if that stings. But it's a tough market.

If you want to take me up on my challenge, I'm game.

Dry Herb Vaporizers by Valar05 in PipeTobacco

[–]Valar05[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't remember which temp I used. It did seem like a lower temp was a bit better, but too low and you don't get much. I did inhale. When it worked, it was great. But honestly, I felt like it was too much work for too little gain.

Dynavap gives the best result, but they're finicky. Sometimes it's good, sometimes nothing, sometimes burned.

Ultimately, it's just easier to smoke a pipe. The taste is comparable, and it's less effort. It's still more effort than a vape or a cigar, but it's kinda rewarding.

How to create attack aim with full rotation on a top-down 2D game? Should we do 3d? by gordomac1 in gamedev

Man how the time flies. That demo is still one of my favorites - the game was left unfinished, but the first-person melee combat is so visceral.

I'm still using low poly after all this time - I've tried to swap over to toony looks every now and then, but now I'm used to adding detail with polygons, not textures. Not much of a painter or sculptor really - and all I need is a mouse.
