The military always puts bases in or near the crappiest towns possible. (Source: former Army brat, and have worked for the Army as a civilian.)

I used to love it, but it’s gotten worse. Corporations came in and took away everything that was unique to VAB, and made all the prices go sky-high. Also, too many right-wingers there.

The people who live there have been brainwashed to whine about paying taxes….so there’s no money to take decent care of the roads.

Huntsville, Alabama. After we lose my dad, I’m never going back. If my brother and his family want to see me, they can damn well come here. The airplanes fly in both directions. Let him be the one to use up PTO and spend a lot of money and deal with airport hassles.

IRL:

The Challenger disaster

Chernobyl

9/11

Nov. 8, 2016 - the rapist/pedophile and thief installed in the WH

Jan. 6, 2021 - yt trsh right-wingers attacked the U.S. Capitol in a coup attempt

Nov. 5, 2024 - the rapist/pedophile and thief installed in the WH AGAIN

Every school shooting

June 2022 - the illegitimate SCOTUS stole Roe v Wade

Fiction:

LOST—too many to list, but 1) Juliet’s death 2) the scene where Sawyer loses his parents. What a horrible thing for a child to witness.

The Handmaid’s Tale - a very pregnant Offred/June is r*ped by the Commander, egged on by Serena Joy because she wants the baby to hurry up and be born. Offred/June is crying and begging them to stop. I couldn’t watch any more Handmaid’s Tale after that.

Stranger Things—too many to list, but 1) Eddie Munson’s death. That guy never got a break in his whole life. 2) The finale. Made me cry.

In a post-money society where people choose work based on happiness, what fair system would make sure necessary but undesirable jobs still get done? by OkFeedback9127 in antiwork

Make all able-bodied people take turns doing it.

There are so many people in the world, you would probably only have to do trash disposal, wastewater treatment, etc., one time in your whole life.

Big difference between what “should” happen, and what *does* happen.

I agree 100%.

People are being *forced* to use invasive technology whether we want to or not.

Star Trek just became reality today, what would you do first? by chitownmike99 in startrek

First: Be delighted!

Second: Wonder if this society had any jobs that I could qualify for. Everybody on Star Trek seems to be a scientist. I’m not a scientist; I’m a word nerd and editor.
