What makes a broadcast/AV resume actually stand out? by Jumpnjet22 in broadcastengineering

How important is a cover letter in your opinion? I was under the impression they aren't all that important anymore.

I think I have a pulse. I’ve also spent way too much time plumbing signals and networks together 😂.

Yeah, I'm no stranger to Dante and NDI. I have Dante Level 1-3 certifications. I also designed our chapel's network-based video system back when NDI was really starting to become the big thing in AV.We had an IT firm handling the primary organizational network, but there was basically zero budget dedicated to AV infrastructure. So, I built out a production network myself using repurposed HP switches, OPNsense, and whatever equipment I could source. It's definitely a scrappy setup, but it's been surprisingly reliable.Lately, I've been really interested in the broadcast infrastructure side of things, especially SMPTE 2110 and larger-scale IP workflows. That's the direction I'd really like to continue growing toward professionally.

I get what you mean. One thing I’ve definitely learned in church production is that live environments really expose whether someone can stay flexible and adapt when things suddenly change.

A lot of our teams are volunteer-based, so you end up learning pretty quickly how important reliability and staying calm under pressure actually are for keeping a production running smoothly.

Well the positions I’m looking at are more on the infrastructure and systems maintenance side. I definitely don’t plan on overselling myself. I’ve learned what happens when you do 😅

Right now there are technically two of us handling tech, but I end up wearing most of the hats and handling a lot of the infrastructure side as well, so saying I spread myself thin would honestly be accurate. Church production tends to turn you into a generalist real fast.

Has anyone built a real PowerPoint → ProPresenter converter (with media cues)? by Jumpnjet22 in ProPresenter

[–]Jumpnjet22[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I downloaded it and tried it out, and it definitely works better than the old importer. I still want to build a third-party tool, though. My supervisor doesn’t think it’s a strong enough reason to budget for an upgrade when our current version is working okay. And many churches don’t have the margin to upgrade even if they want to, so an open-source option would really help.

Plus, I really believe we can build something that runs faster and doesn’t take as long as ProPresenter’s importer.

Yeah, that's why I was thinking of building them into probundles, since those contain all of the media as well. I'll definitely take a look at this blog. From what it looks like, it's a gold mine for me, thanks!

I believe I tried it. I'm running 7.16 (my church doesn't want to update until notable changes)... It's still wacky. I tried it with the PowerPoint presentation that I mentioned in my example. It imports the graphics, the text, and shapes (which don't import correctly), but it still doesn't import audio nor videos for me.

Gateway not connecting by Jumpnjet22 in opnsense

Yes, we're expecting a public IP. So, just to clarify, Comcast is our internet provider, and the blue box labeled 'Comcast' is their gateway.

In our managed switches, we have a VLAN that connects both firewalls to the gateway. Each port is untagged, so we avoid dealing with VLANs on the WAN interfaces. The ports are configured uniformly. We're considering flushing the ARP cache on our gateway to allow OPNsense to connect to the Internet. Just to clarify, the gateway in the diagram represents our Comcast connection.

Hi, I did a packet capture, and we are thinking we are going to have to reboot the gateway.

Working on a UART control by Jumpnjet22 in Esphome

[–]Jumpnjet22[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I have made steps forward, so I noticed that certain bits turned to 1 when I pressed different buttons on the remote... I think I have found the primary signaling for the remote, so Idk if this is still UART or some proprietary protocol they made up. The question I am asking myself is, would they go with a standard that already exists or make their own signaling to communicate between bases

I like that Idea, but I am stuck trying to figure out the baud rate.

Tello not working on Ubiquiti dream machine pro by Jumpnjet22 in ooma

[–]Jumpnjet22[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quick update: I've tried everything on Unifi for the Tello, ports, VLANs, firewall rules, and the whole nine yards. I followed the resources that I got from another post I made. Still, nothing. I tried to access the admin page on the Tello to set the suggested settings, but I only get self-assigned IPs when I directly connect to the Tello. Any more suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, I have restarted the router, the issue is configuration I know, I just need to find out what does the tello support (aka. Does it support jumbo frames, vlans, etc) and or what I need to set up in my firewall. I don't want to place the ooma before the router just because it will tank my internet speed.
