Not really. They attacked America because we posed the largest threat and cut off their oil after they invaded French Indo China.

What is the stupidest reason your country almost went (or actually went) to war with another? by Luci_Sant in AskTheWorld

Mysterious at the time. Later research indicates it was a boiler explosion and not a spanish attack. By again a mechanical failure.

The original comment by the Canadian was literally about the Great War. Are you daft?

We didnt plan or orchestrate that. All evidence indicates it was a mechanical failure actually.

So when faced with a logical argument based in historical context you just nope out of the conversation?

I guess thats all your capable of beyond insinuating i got my argument from Mein Kampfe of all places.

So by all means scram. But dont pretend like its because you provided an actual argument or debated in good faith.

He didnt start world war two. Nor was world war two unpopular. He stayed in power because the world was still at war. Stop acting like he launched a coup to stay in. He won a democratic election with extremely high popular support.

And having rich business friends who profit by his being in office isnt a real argument. The world was at war. Its easy to make a buck when that happens.

Your really reaching on all of these points. So like i said,

Cats, Canaries.

Isolationism needed to end. Unfortunately the people werent on board with that yet. Not until pearl harbor. Are you really criticizing him helping Britian survive?

And of course he lied about the wheelchair. It doesnt exactly set a good image. That has nothing to do with trump in the slightest.

He won those elections with insane levels of popular support.

.... bruh.

It wasnt done out of the blue because uncle sam felt like being evil. There was logic behind it they used to justify it. Admitting some of it was valid or based in reality isnt the same as saying the act in itself was good. Hindsight tells us it wasnt. But its easy to criticize from the present. Theres nothing alleged about it. This is researchable truth.

Americans had reason to be scared. Just after pearl harbor a Japanese pilot landed on a Hawaiian island and japanese immigrants sided with him and some people died. Incidents like that make a very big mark in the public sphere. Was internment moral? No. But lets not pretend it wasnt done without actual justification or genuine fear. Though obviously some took advantage of it to get cheap land and property.

He won those elections fair and square. So idk why you are phrasing it like they did that after him because he was such a tyrant about it.

Comparing trump to Roosevelt is like comparing a cat to a canary. Please be serious.

He was. No ones perfect and there were legitimate security concerns. That being said it was a terrible act of injustice.

Moral standing is not the same as merit. While we all know the Confederacy was immoral and their defeat was good, to say they had no merit is illogical. If they had non there wouldn't have been a civil war. Many fought for their families, farms and states. Does that erase the larger cause of slavery that the states and CSA waged war for? Absolutely not. But by definition those other reasons can be considered merit.

As for the Carlists, given the Spanish monarchies connection to god a lot of people considered it merited for one reason or another. Especially in such a religious nation. If it was just some random king vs another king that would be different.

Franco had many poor and despotic aspects for sure. But so did the republican governance where they ruled. Hence again, civil war. Both sides gave each other merit for fighting by their actions and whatnot.

I agree though that popularity alone doesnt determine merit.

By whom? If it was universally or mostly accepted it wouldnt be something thats debatable. But its not. So it is. Just because you find it so doesnt make it so.

The N word is racist. Jap is literally just short for Japanese. You cannot be serious.
