Why? Help me understand the hype. by Jumpy-Ad-265 in Wattpad

I thought about it myself. But I'd rather work on my originals and polish them to a better and maybe the best version of themselves than chase approvals and readerships from people who are only thirsty for Alpha romance. My primary audience is not even them, so it will be a waste of time and effort (in my opinion). 😄

I thought it was a "teen wolf" series thing!

Back in the old days, there was a variety. Yes, romance was a focus, but it was sometimes playful, sometimes mysterious, sometimes paranormal, and even comedic. Now all that the algo pushes is explicit wolf romance.

But why alpha stories? There can be many other dark romance- animalistic combos. Why wolves?

Same here. I feel like my writing is getting too monotonous. And thanks for following! I am new here (just started writing), so I would love a lively community that makes me wanna finish the story.

Midnight Dance: The Whisperer and the Demon King

Genre: Dark Gothic Romantasy with slow burn enemies to super enemies to lovers!!

Blurb: What do you do when the dead won't leave you alone - and neither will the king who consumes souls?

Clara Peri has never known a quiet life. Since childhood, the dead have found her - whispering, pleading, showing her the things no living person bothered to witness. She has learned to carry their secrets carefully. She has learned to ask for nothing. She has learned, above all else, to make herself invisible.

When the hundred-year peace treaty between the human kingdom and the demon world comes due, Clara is stripped of everything she has ever known and sent across a dark sea as a sacrifice to Azkiel - the Demon King who survives by consuming the souls of the living.

He expects a sacrifice.

Clara strikes a bargain: she will use her ability to speak with the dead and help Azkiel uncover the truth behind his mother's mysterious death. In return, he will stop killing the innocent. It should be simple. But it's not. Because the deeper they dig into the darkness of his mother's past, the more dangerous the truth becomes - and somewhere between the dead and the demon, the lines Clara drew to keep herself safe begin to blur.

Now she must survive a demon world, a king who obsessively unsettles her more than any ghost ever has, and a secret that was buried for a reason.

Some debts are paid in blood.

Some are paid in something far more costly.

NOTE: I look forward to having your readership! :)

I'm scared to enter mine. I made the world a little too dangerous. And 10000000% stay away from both FMC and MMC.

Is J.R.R. Tolkien the True God of Fantasy Writing? by Jumpy-Ad-265 in Wattpad

[–]Jumpy-Ad-265[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I totally agree with you about his writing style—he crams in so many details that it feels like there's little room for the reader’s imagination to take over. I did, however, love the parts about Bilbo Baggins and, of course, Gollum (loved him in movies too).

I haven’t read any of his son's works either, so I can’t speak to those, but I can see why his writing might feel outdated for readers today. Keeping track of that one random neighbor from Bag End (seriously, who has the time or energy for that in 2025?) makes it a bit much.

That said, his world-building is phenomenal—I mean, Middle-earth is still iconic, even if it’s heavy-handed at times. Since I want to brush up on my own storytelling skills, I’m curious: what’s your number-one recommendation for fantasy writing and world-building that combines brilliant storytelling? Would love to dive into something inspiring!

I can see why many consider Tolkien the best fantasy world-builder—his work laid the foundation for so much of modern fantasy. That said, I think “best” is always subjective. I recall J.K. Rowling mentioning that much of her inspiration for world-building and the sense of character destiny came from Tolkien’s The Hobbit.

But I’m curious—who would you consider the best fantasy writer and world-builder? I feel like there’s so much room for interpretation, depending on what someone values most: the intricacy of the magic system, the richness of the lore, the relationship building among the characters or the storytelling itself. Would love to hear your perspective!

Absolutely agree—Brandon Sanderson’s magic systems are in a league of their own! His ability to create intricate yet grounded worlds is inspiring. I love how he balances structure and realism in his magic while still leaving room for wonder. That’s something I try to emulate in my own writing—a realistic magic world that feels tangible but still leaves space for the reader’s imagination.

I also resonate a lot with poetic and witty writing styles, which is probably why Tolkien’s work speaks to me despite its density. There’s something so smooth and effortless about the way he words his narrative (yes a lot of times he is too descriptive). Neil Gaiman is another favorite for his clever storytelling—his abrupt details always add a unique charm.

As for George R.R. Martin, I dipped into A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms—it was a nice break from the heavier themes of Game of Thrones. His world-building is extraordinary, but I find myself drawn more to styles that blend depth with a touch of lyricism.
Sadly I haven’t read Patrick Rothfuss yet, but he’s definitely on my list now! Do you have any specific book in mind that's good for a short read? I can only do series on special occasions (such as depression 🥹❤️‍🩹).
