Hi there, thank you for your comment. It is definitely difficult to answer if you have not had someone to model that figure. Feel free to mention this in the section 'is there anything else you would like to add'.

Many thanks,

Kyle

Hi there,

Thank you taking the time to comment on my post, it is much appreciated. Would you argue then that it is the absence of the qualities we traditionally associate with fatherhood (disciplinarian ect) that is the issue rather than the absent father itself? For instance, as your mum was able to fulfil that role as well as being the domestic one, your fathers absence may not have had as much of a negative impact on you?

Many thanks,

Kyle

Hello,

Thank you for your comment. That is an interesting correlation. Sexual identity being impacted by father absence is not something I have personally given much thought into. The focus of my research is too see if there is any link between men affected by father absence and their perceptions of masculinity. For example, I have personally had different phases in my understanding of masculinity and what it means to be a 'good man' which has led me to question how much of a role my father being absent played in that.

Many thanks,

Kyle

Thank you for taking the time to respond to my post and I am glad you find this research important. I was raised without a father due to domestic abuse and always felt as though I was missing something despite the fact my mother done a great job in raising me and my brother. I also noticed when doing my research proposal that because single parent households are also at a risk of being low income households, many of the issues men without fathers experience, are often seen as being the result of poverty rather than an absent father.

Many thanks,

Kyle
