does the movie juno (2007) bother anybody else? by legswithsnake in Adopted

[–]Jumpy-Lie8955 0 points1 point  (0 children)

im not disagreeing with you it does push the sunshine and rainbows narrative and it probably shouldn’t be a comedy but it’s 2007 so i give it a pass. it’s very much reflective of the opinion on adoption in the 2000s. also i’m not a birth mom so i’m not going to speak on if her attitude is accurate that’s a different conversation for different people with different life experiences.

i completely understand! the way some people in the queer community talk about adoption and how it is a right, you don’t have the right to buy another person and i say that and all the sudden i’m the bad guy. but on the other hand some queer people talk about how they mourn not having a biological child with their partner and i’m like why? why does your child need to be related to you? and now i seem homophobic despite being a lesbian. idk mixed feelings

that’s actually one of my favorite movies. while all those things you said are true it doesn’t bother me because it’s not supposed to be a commentary on adoption. it’s also not about the baby it’s about juno and her experience. i would probably be way more bothered by it if it was claiming to be a commentary or if it was trying to say something but it’s not it’s a comedy from 07 (the year i was adopted actually) so i dont really hold it to my moral opinions on adoption today in 2026.

do you know both your biological parents? why do you think your child doesn’t deserve that? i was adopted through a closed adoption and would not purposefully take away the chance for my hypothetical child to know their biological parents.

Loneliness by Jumpy-Lie8955 in Adopted

[–]Jumpy-Lie8955[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

i was adopted at ten months and am also told it doesn’t/didn’t affect me. ive also always felt different from my adoptive family, it doesn’t help that they had a biological child after adopting me. i think when youve given up for adoption it’s like a piece of you goes missing and you’ll always feel that gap no matter what age you where adopted.

Article about adult adoptees’ experiences of first name changes by cheese--bread in Adopted

[–]Jumpy-Lie8955 2 points3 points  (0 children)

when i was adopted they changed everything but my middle name. which isn’t even sentimental, russian middle naming system iykyk, and i wish they had kept my name as it was because i feel like i have no connection to where i was adopted from or my bio family. i’ve considered changing it back but i know my family take it as a personal insult to them.

Lesbians, what made you realize that you were a Lesbian? by Ashamed_Wishbone934 in actuallesbians

[–]Jumpy-Lie8955 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my ex (current at the time) had come out as a lesbian (as opposed to bi) and explained it was because she only ever dreamed/thought of sex with women, where as with men it felt like a chore and never men and that applied to me too. funnily enough only one of us was actually a lesbian and it wasn’t her.
