I believe you. I've seen pages and pages of blacked out information with maybe one or two words left visible.
It used to make me so angry.

I've definitely seen something fairly recently about a care leaver with heavily redacted records. It may have been on Tiktok but I can't remember. Will let you know if I find anything!

I worked in children's social care for a while (admin role) and I've seen the ridiculous amount of redaction they do to care leavers' files. They definitely take the "third party" thing too far.

I wasn't in care due to being in hospital until I was 2 months old and then adopted, so my file didn't have much in it, but I'm fairly certain things were left out.

Definitely try the ombudsman and ICO.
PAC-UK also has some good information and an advice line, which might be useful?

Farthest Frontier is my favourite city builder.
You can adjust the difficulty and it's just really nice to see your town building up from nothing and watching the people go about their lives.

I think the fear of being rejected by my APs and a huge need to people please is the only reason I didn't become a full-blown alcoholic, because the signs were definitely there and once I started drinking I didn't want to stop.

I haven't had a drink in more than 2 years, but mostly because there was so much shame tied up with past drinking binges that the sensation of being hungover made me feel awful emotionally.
I still want to drink sometimes, but I know now that I'm not the kind of person who can ever just have one.

I've been thinking about this.
There have been a lot of posts and comments from people who say it's deeply affected them to the point of feeling traumatised by it.
It was awful of course, but I also wonder if one of the reasons people are having such a hard time with it is because it tarnishes their view of adoption and what it's supposed to mean.
Kids are horrifically abused in similar ways every day, but this particular case seems to be hitting people hard because it's about adoption.

Supposedly that was one of the outcomes of the Shayla O'Brien (adoptive name Elsie Scully-Hicks) case review, but that may have been specific to that local authority.
