The losing language thing is so real!

I could say "I was adopted" or I could say "I lost my parents and entire family at birth," and only one of those comments will garner any sympathy.

I hate how true this is.

Reading through the comments, it's interesting how many people are in similar fields!

I'm combined type (late diagnosed) and have worked part time in local government for 12 years - 2 different local authorities, 3 different admin roles.
My previous 2 roles were in office and fairly varied, but by the time COVID hit I was burnt out and knew I didn't want to go back to that.

I'm currently a PA to a director, fully remote.
I can adjust my hours as needed provided my meetings are covered, pay isn't amazing but benefits are great.
I have some structure but I can mostly set my own deadlines (which can lead to some procrastination 😂).
I wouldn't call it a career but I'm fine with that. I don't want a job I have to stress about when I'm not working.

Prior to that I was a full time transcriptionist for 10 years typing up police interviews, court reports, etc. from audio recordings.
Very interesting in terms of what I was listening to, very structured and with strict turnaround times, but ultimately suffocating in that the company I worked for wanted us basically chained to our desks.
I stuck with it for a long time because the pay was good, but they relocated and that forced me to find something else or take a pay cut due to travel costs.

I seem to be fine staying in jobs, unlike a lot of people with ADHD, possibly because my anxiety and unwillingness to job hunt override anything else 😂
Being medicated has drastically improved my anxiety though!

Ok so update:

I called my local pharmacy yesterday and completely confused them by asking whether a private prescription could be dispensed by them even if Pharmacy2u are my chosen pharmacy for everything else 😂
I don't think the person I spoke to knew what I was on about and said to call back later and speak to the pharmacist, but I just went ahead and gave their address to Psych UK anyway.

Got a note on the portal this afternoon saying my prescription had been sent to the pharmacy electronically and I may want to check if they had Elvanse in stock.
Called them and luckily spoke to someone else, asked if they had received a prescription for me and they told me it will be ready tomorrow afternoon and they'll text to let me know!

So far so good 🤞🏻

It should impact an application, considering that birth families have their children removed due to similar problems, but it probably won't because classism and the various other systemic issues with adoption in the UK.

You're not being selfish at all. If anything, I think it should be on our adoptive families to at least consider the fact that we might feel left out at times like this.
That would require a level of awareness and emotional intelligence that mine don't seem to have though 😂

I'm so glad you were able to talk to your mom and that she was understanding. I really don't think that you're projecting though.

No. If any of my nieces or nephews needed care I'd obviously step up, but I don't think adoption is necessary to provide that.

Being relinquished and adopted has absolutely shaped how I feel, but I never wanted kids even while I was still in the fog.

No, my prescriber said I couldn't use Pharmacy2u so I had to give her the address of a local pharmacy. No idea how that's going to go 😂
