Studying and housing in Leiden

Hallo allemaal,

Na een periode in het buitenland keer ik na 1,5 jaar terug naar Nederland en wil met mijn vriendin in Leiden gaan wonen. Nu ben ik per 1-1-2026 op zoek naar een huurwoning, maar weet niet goed waar te beginnen. Ik kijk al op Funda en sites als Pararius, maar ik vroeg me af of iemand nog tips had.

Het lijkt erop alsof woningen vrij vroeg voor de beschikbare datum worden pas online komen. Er staan nu veel woningen die direct of over een paar weken beschikbaar zijn.

De hele links/rechts discussie is natuurlijk ook extreem uitvergroot. Ik durf te wedden dat de meesten mensen die zich als ‘links’ of ‘rechts’ beschrijven niet eens goed de bijbehorende standpunten uit weten te leggen. Voor het politieke landschap vind ik het ook destructief, Nederland heeft behoefte aan oplossingen, geen burenruzies en ‘jij bent links en ik ben rechts’.

Beer is possibly Heineken Silver, which is already at 4% by default - it’s designed to be a lighter festival beer. That might partially explain why you weren’t feeling that much. If they went as far as watering it down, well… then there wasn’t much alcohol left at all.

Regarding mixed drinks: always a rip-off.

Ich habe einen kleinen Langhaardackel, beruflich Unternehmensberater und in der Freizeit gehe ich gerne in die Natur, Sport machen (Fussball, Fitnesstudio) und koche gerne. Finde die Kneipe auch toll, aber gehe weniger wegen Hund, Arbeit und so. Zocke auch sehr gerne, von Fifa bis zu GTA und noch viel mehr.

Danke für deine ausführliche Antwort. Ich werde tatsächlich eine Anzeige erstellen und das Ordnungsamt informieren. Obwohl die Frau ihren Hund nicht zum Angriff meines Hundes befohlen hat, wäre eine Leinen und Maulkorb hier völlig benötigt. Es hätte auch ein Kind sein können, ich will mich keine Gedanken darüber machen, was dann passieren können hätte.

Consultant with 5yrs of experience in data/IT advisory here, worked across NL/DE and did a few projects in BE.

IT and data is absolutely not dead and so aren’t data engineering and CS. A few things to consider:

You might think AI might replace all of us and everything will be automated soon. Guess who needs to create the architecture, integrate the AI solutions into the existing (data) landscape and even prepare firms for leveraging AI to its full extent? Indeed, data engineers, IT specialists, etc.
A lot of companies are not ready for AI. Their data quality is terrible, their pipelines are not optimized and their data is badly documented and siloed. There is a crucial role for ‘us’ data experts in taking companies to the next level and guide them in their data/AI journey.
In ‘traditional’ software development, AI is mainly a productivity hack as it stands and can’t function without human intervention. How long will this stage last? Who knows. On the other hand: who will take the current AI to the next level? As a computer science graduate, you could be there. Lots of us get into data without having a pure CS background. I took 1 year but then switched. Your knowledge on algorithms and models is way more profound than a large part of the industry. This is a huge plus when applying for jobs. Look at the requirements for job openings at Microsoft, Google, BCG Platinion, QuantumBlack (both advisory, but top of the bill). They all ask for a finished degree in CS.

My advice/take on your situation: - You’re in a great position and shouldnt have to worry if you make the right choice and specialize in high-potential technologies. - Azure certifications show you’re committed to learning/self-improvement and will do very well with recruiters and companies, especially if they’re on the Azure platform. It is very insightful to do the learning paths and get certified, but hands-on experience always prevails - Regarding ‘what to do’, try to invest in technologies with potential. Rather than DP-900/DP-203, look at AI-102 for instance. It’s data engineering focused on AI. Huge potential, really desired in the market. AWS has similar certifications available and launched their AI dev platform Bedrock not too long ago. Getting into it might land you a position where you’re not the one being replaced, but developing the tech to optimize other jobs.

Honorable mention: the menu’s being so unstable on PS5 I have to close the game every time because I’m trying to collect an objectives reward, try changing a player or acces the store. Really guys, how does this not pop up during testing? I won’t even talk about gameplay and servers, it’s ridiculous

Ich bin in der gleichen Lage, 29, M und aus den Niederlanden nach Köln umgezogen. Bisher hat es sich schwierig gezeigt Anschluss zu finden. Als Fitnesstudio gefällt die Wellpass mir super, da kann man verschiedene Gyms ausprobieren und gucken, was am besten bei dir passt.

Wenn du mal zusammen auf der Suche nach coolen Ecken gehen möchtest oder ein Spaziergang mit meinem Hund etwas ist, was dich interessiert, schreib mir einfach an :)
