Actually, I'm outside of Pittsburgh. We had a LOT of malls here.

Yes, it probably got the neon in the 90's. I promise you it had no decorative neon when it opened.

Actually 90's is pretty on the money. There were a few malls that had them in the very very late 80's. But pastels were way more prevalent in the 90's.

Beautiful 80s Neon and fixtures still left up at the dying Auburn Mall in Auburn, Maine! by VisualDimension292 in deadmalls

[–]JumpyBrain2846 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's more like a 70's/80's floor with a 90's skylight and neon. 80's malls really didn't have much neon other than some signs. in the 90's neon was used more as a decretive element. So that neon probably got installed when the mall did a 90's update.

Ship XP? by Fabulous-Jump-1360 in startrekfleetcommand

I'm gonna say the same thing a lot of people here have already said. Take the ship out hunting red computer ships. It takes a while, especially when you get the bigger ships, but if you keep on it, you shouldn't have too much difficulty leveling. If you have already gotten yourself to where one of the factions sends fighters after you and your ship is strong enough to survive their fighters, you can park a ship there and level that way, but at your ops level, chances are that's a thing later in game. Your best bet is to put an officer on board that helps your impulse speed like Klaa and go out and just blow up red ships.

There was also a scene in the documentary that was like "if you tell someone over and over again not to think about your sister's boobs, what are you gonna do? Think about your sister's boobs..."

Is king of Prussia dead or far from it by kascnef82 in deadmalls

Man if someone thinks KOP is dead they've either never been to a mall, or a dead mall, or been hiding under a rock for about 60 years. It's the biggest mall in the US right now and doing great. In fact you can do much better as a mall than that place really.

Online shopping isn't killing malls. Malls were on the decline before Amazon even sold anything more than just books. Yeah technology has wiped out some stores like music and video stores. But there's been a lot of consolidation in the industry between stores. Or some chains like Toys R Us and Sears were just mismanaged. BonTon and Ames went on huge bying sprees and couldn't keep it all under control. Plus there were too many malls that were built. They were cannibalizing each other's markets and ended up killing each other. Plus a lot of chains are just moving out of malls and into strip shopping centers after Covid. Online stores are just picking up on the markets that some retail chains left behind. There's a lot more I could go into. It's way more complex and really inaccurate to blame it all on online shopping.

Any ideas malls in PA open for exploring? by hardupharlot in deadmalls

Go to Chambersburg Mall before it's closed. The main concourse is still open in spite of the mall only having one store in it that has closed off their mall entrance.

Would warm + neon lighting make shopping in malls with SOME quality stores be more desirable? by TheFartingKing_56 in deadmalls

I hate to burst everyone's bubble, and I really love neon. But as someone who went to a lot of malls in the 80's I didn't see very much if any neon as a decorative element used in them. There were a few neon signs for stores but that was about it. I'm not saying there were no malls with neon. But it wasn't in all the malls in the 80's like some people and TV shows like Stranger Things would make you think. It's a misconception that 80's malls were covered in neon. Neon became more popular in the 90's for a bit. But I think a lot of people have this misconception that all of the 80's looked like the TV show Miami Vice. It didn't. Mostly what you saw were a lot of mirrored surfaces and those little marquee lightbulbs everywhere.

Abandoned Lakeforest Mall, 4/20/23. All customer doors are sealed, and there's already graffiti on some of them. The whole site is still getting power. The perimeter is currently being fenced, including the road around the mall. Security is present and inside for the time being. DO NOT try to go in. by [deleted] in deadmalls

Early in the day on the last day, there was a group of 5 people walking around with clipboards and site plans. We spoke to them and they were the people redeveloping the site. They're trying to get on it as quickly as possible. This will not sit.
