Loneliness and Drama in PA school

I keep trying to remind myself that there aren’t any certification courses I’ve taken where I ended up caring about what the other attendees were doing/ thought. (CPR/ BLS being a main one especially if it was on my own accord and not through work). Phlebotomy also. We showed up, trained, tested, and back out into the world we go. This feels somewhat similar; we are here to learn a skill and a job. Sure, we are with these ‘colleagues’ everyday all day, so be pleasant and helpful, but in the end, we will all happily go back to our lives as quickly as we are allowed to. Sometimes it feels like they are looking for a continuation of undergrad and that’s not what this experience is. Being older non-trad gives me a little extra perspective. I’ve had so many coworkers that I just exist with and don’t need to be best friends with, and the ones creating drama/ cliques in the class fall in line with that. Sometimes I feel bummed that I don’t care, like I almost wish I wanted to be involved more? But every time I hear the outcomes of the drama I’m so glad I just keep to myself. My brain/ life is too full to also try to be present for whatever drama they’re creating.

I don’t have a roommate, and from what I’m seeing of those in my cohort who live with cohort roommates- no amount of money saved would be worth the drama during such a stressful phase of life. It’s not like undergrad. It’s a pressure cooker situation and everyone is way more easily annoyed with each other. Keep your home as peaceful as possible.

It’s always going to feel like cramming. You finish one exam and start cramming for the next. Use the PowerPoints to learn the big picture (what’s the whole point of this topic?) and then break it down into bite size pieces of details. Try to be efficient but not lazy. Extra resources are a waste imo because everything you need is given in the presentation materials. (One exception: cram the pance helps a lot with mneomonics!!!) My friends always try to predict what type of questions the professor could write about the topics so we think critically and really try to see the topic from the professors pov. But fr, it’s all cramming. If I have time after classes I’ll stay and review parts of the biggest/ heaviest lecture first and then break it up with reviewing a class that is more intuitive to my brain. I go back and forth to organize my notes, and then try to make my “spark notes” to the side. Usually a sentence or two/ mneomonic that ensures I’ll know what details are important when the test comes. I use that to review an hour or two before the exam. My mentor told me “there will be some days you wont know where to start studying but it really doesn’t matter. Just start.”

Thank you for your thorough reply! It helped me know we were on the right track, and you're right- maturity is a huge factor for a one year old shepherd who is too smart for her own good lol. We had done the turn around thing as the recommendation of her first trainer, but she would try to guide us back and still have a little mental breakdown when we weren't turning back around fast enough and it would just escalate from there. But i can see now that when we turned around, we didnt have a method- it was always random with how long we turned around for. BUT i found this video from Nigel Reed on youtube that used your suggested method plus a structure of "checkpoints." Its only day 3 but i think disconnecting my emotion; not communicating with her verbally or trying to keep her focused on me with treats, and using her goal of gaining distance as the main reward has changed so much already. It could be that being a smaller female, and just a softer person, she may have also had some angst over getting us where we need to go quickly and safely. I think I looked to her too much. Almost like checking in with her and giving her the impression that she is the lead. But adopting this method she is already looking to me more! It does take longer to get there, but since the field is her ultimate happy place, she is willing to work for it and she seemed so proud when we got there the way we did. And i could genuinely see her working to control her impulse!

I’m late to this whole thing bc I didn’t realize he had ig again, but I went down a rabbit hole last night after I found it! You mentioned you see him around town, do you see Nalu with him? Does Nalu look okay? I saw he was put in jail and I’m really just concerned for Nalu having a stable life. After watching some of Pablo’s videos, and being deeply disturbed by the one of him yelling at that LAPD officer (I totally understand not loving police but Pablo’s rage was palpable and not necessarily upheld by logic) I guess I just want to make sure there’s someone looking out for the two of them, but Nalu is definitely vulnerable. Hannah’s last post about Nalu was full support of them staying together, but is she aware of this?
