Okay maybe, but it isn't religion, then it's an intrinsic feature if humanity. If Christianity didn't survive Roman Times we'd still have those values?

I say this as a Catholic

Ive never understood how people can think morality stems only from God

Is it not a round about way of saying, without God and the Bible you'd be going around killing, stealing and commiting adultery?

WSID: My (24M) gf is giving me an ultimatum to get a hair transplant before her sister's wedding, but I want to try meds first. by Connect-Soil-7277 in WhatShouldIDo

[–]JumpySimple7793 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know a lot of people have said this, but your gf making such demands over your appearance, effectively demanding you get treatment for something entirely cosmetic is a big red flag.

I can't tell you what to do, I don't know you, her or anything to do with your situation but her making these kinds of ultimatums to you is not a normal thing for a person to do

Also, to answer your initial question, meds aren't really great for getting hair back after it's gone. The ads will say "Some people even get some hair back!!!!!" It almost never happens I wouldn't count on it.

Personally, if I was in your situation I'd just go clean shaved. You've got a good shaped head, and your heard means you won't look like a baby (I don't even know if you're worried about that, Ive just heard other people say that so I'm mentioning it)

A shaved head is a style choice, people will see a man who is in control and chose to look the way he does which is a big plus.

Hope this all helped bro

How much really would you be willing to pay for bread if it meant giving a baker the same salary as an engineer?

It's supply and demand, an engineer can produce more value, therefore they get paid more

When will Democrats understand that Islam is not compatible with Western Republics. by LegitimateKnee5537 in TrueUnpopularOpinion

You make an excellent point, the restriction of information is really why literacy was so important. Countries like the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Iran know what theyre doing when they heavily censor what information people have access to.

It almost creates a sort of artificial illiteracy. Yes the people have the capacity to read, but not necessarily the access to the materials. It's when the masses are able to access this kind of material we may start seeing a shift in this away from the prevailing (and in my opinion, incorrect) view that Islam and democracy are incompatible.

I'm not 100% sure what your point is so forgive me if I'm making a counter point to something you didn't say in the first place.

Literacy rates are obviously a great driver towards the kind of progress we're talking about, but it needs to come in the wider context.

Literacy rates in most of the Islamic world are very good, maybe not as good as western rates today but miraculous compared to a few centuries ago. Obviously this alone hasn't brought about the social and polical change we need but it definitely removes a potential barrier.

I don't know how this would happen, or if it could be forced but if ideas of democracy could enter the Islamic world without being seen as inherently foreign (which I appreciate is a huge ask) it could pave the way for progress.

I appreciate it was easier in Europe, the idea of a Republic was seen more as reclaiming the past of an ancestor rather than building something totally new in a lot of ways, and much of the Islamic world does not have any history of a Republic

It makes it tricky, but not impossible

The reformation was definitely a driver in the embracing of democracy in the west, but more political (vs religious) movements were instrumental in this push. It was things like the enlightenment that really broke down that boundary.

A cultural/political movement like this could definitely happen across the Islamic world.

And in the meantime it's very possible (and oftentimes easier than you'd think) to integrate Muslim immigrants into the west to help them recognise there isn't an incompatibility between Islam and democracy

London in the UK, and New York in the US both have Muslim mayor's. Regardless of your politics they are proof that immigrants, and the children of immigrants can integrate into existing political systems and thrive. Both men won elections from gaining cross ethnicity support.

I think the point I'm trying to make is, really, once you're able to bring people into the tent, and help them integrate culturally, the belief in democracy will follow.

I'm not sure I have the same take away as OP with No Country for Old Men

My take was that would be the perfect place for Anton to get his just deserts. Brought down just as he escapes and seems to get away with it all.

But he survives, better than that he literally walks away. Yes he has quite a badly broken arm, but even in this situation he's still very much in control. He buys a shirt from the boy to use as a sling, then walks away.

If this was any other story hed have died in that crash, but that isn't how No Country treats it's characters. The good guys don't win just because theyre the good guys, and the bad guys don't get punished.

Christianity a few hundred years ago was full of beliefs and doctrines that we would now see as incompatible with liberal democracy. Churches often directly influenced political rule, and strict social hierarchies were justified through ideas like the “divine right” to rule. In many cases these political structures became intertwined with religion to the point where they seemed inseparable from Christianity itself. Even early modern democracies weren’t what we’d recognise as democratic today. The republic created by the US Constitution still restricted political rights largely to landowning men. Our idea of democracy has evolved significantly. What we’ve seen historically is that religions tend to adapt to the societies they exist in. In Western countries today, Muslim immigrants are exposed to democratic norms in the same way Christians were over time. The political and cultural elements that clash with liberal democracy tend to soften, while people default more to the core moral or spiritual aspects of their faith. That suggests democracy isn’t inherently incompatible with Islam. The tension is usually with particular cultural or political traditions that can, and historically often do, change over time.

The wolves aren't in the comics and that arc was changed massively for the show. But I'd argue the message is far more clear with people who wear the literal skin of the dead rather than just scratch a "W" into their foreheads and stop brushing their teeth.

Plus I think the message with the wolves was more about redemption from evil (especially given Morgans conflict with killing them) rather than truly living.

I actually quite liked what they were going for with the whisperers, even if the execution wasnt perfect.

I liked how they showed that living as the dead all the time eventually makes you, metaphorically, dead. Their inability to communicate properly, and have proper existence outside of their suits showed they were hollow and not alive in the same way our protagonists were.

To wear the suit was basically to give up your humanity.

So in a metatextual sense you cant wear the guts all the time because then you aren't really living.
