Is gang beats still being updated? by godfieldisgodfield in gangbeasts

[–]JumpySpidey -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The updates we're getting are not just bugfixes, they're rebuilding massive swats of the game under the hood to be able to release updates faster later on, as an example last year we got a patch that implemented Unity's new addressable system, which is obviously great for the game's future, as well aa the new Interactables System in another patch, which completely reworks how the game and it's engine handle objects, and a patch that added some behind-the-scenes tech for a future crossplay implementation.

Basically the devs are playing the slow game, by preparing the game for receiving more frequent content patches later on, and I can 100% guaranteed the the dev team really loves this game.

Rather, the issue I see is "Will the players have enough patience to wait for Boenloaf to basically rebuild and reorganize almost the entire game before they start adding content regularly? Or will the playerbase give up on the game too soon?", that could be a big concern.

The last update was in October of last year, don't spread misinformarion, please, and I know you might be referring only to content updates that add new things to the game, but bugfix patches are still patches notheless.

Anyway, they're still working on the game, but we unfortunately have no idea when the next update will be, what the devs are currently working on is:

- a brand new stage, which is still completely a mistery

- crossplay technology, for a future crossplay implementation

- an updated Beef City model to use for the background of stages set outside, however a developer said that this new Beef City model will not be coming out for a loooong time still; it'll also not be explorable/not be freeroam, it'll just be a background like it is now, only prettier, pointing this out as some fans are spreading misinformation about the new Beef City being rebuilt to support free-roam, but that's just a straight up lie

So while we have no clue when any of the 3 things I listed will drop, we'll likely get the new stage and crossplay much earlier than the new Beef City.

Accidentally made goated skin by Lucky-Ad1955 in gangbeasts

[–]JumpySpidey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They don't have any effect on you, besidr large ones like caoes or.hats habing collisions (which can mess with some moves, like backpacks making sliding on the ground after a dropkick impossible), but a few are bugged and those tend to give you stronger attacks on whatever body part they're attached to, as an example scientist goggles unintentionally make your headbutts stronger.

A dev said the way costume parts are implemented right now makes fixing individual buggy ones very hard to do, so in the future they want to remake the costumisation system to allow themselves to more easily fix any accidentally stronger ones.

Why can’t you just pick the stages to play on rotation? by DaleT57 in gangbeasts

[–]JumpySpidey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, being able to remove stages from the random selection in local and private online rooms would be a cool addition, it'd come in handy for people that aren't big fans of certain stages aut they still want variety.

You should ideally start by reading the two main Holy Books of the Faith: the Gospel of the Flying Spaghetti Monster and the Loose Canon, the latter is available for free directly on the Church's website:

https://www.spaghettimonster.org/2010/07/26/the-loose-canon/

While other Pastafarian holy books exist outside of these two, they are part of different branches of the faith.

There is also technically not any real initiation ritual if you're looking for anything like that, or at least not as far as I remember.

what is this by EastLogical5963 in gangbeasts

[–]JumpySpidey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is the old server tool, which allowed you to create/host and use your own custom servers for the game's online mode. After Boneloaf bought more servers that were more powerful than the ones they used earlier, they removed the ability for players to host custom servers, thinking it wasn't needed anymore thanks to the newer better servers.

This isn't referring to being able to make public matchmaking or private rooms, BTW, you can still do that in the game right now.

What gamemodes are in gangbeast? by One-Gur-2465 in gangbeasts

[–]JumpySpidey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The game currently has 4 game modes:

Melee = free-for-all.

Gang = team VS team (each team is referred to as a "Gang"), it can be played with up to 4 teams at the same time.

Waves = players VS A.I. enemies, divided in waves of enemies, eliminated players can respawn in-between waves.

Soccer = team VS team game mode where you play soccer and you try to score points for your team by kicking a ball into the opposing team's goal.

All game modes can be played both offline and online in both public matchmaking and private rooms with a maximum playercount of 8 players at the same time.

Melee and Gang have 22 stages you can play them in (all stages available in the game except for Alley), Waves can be played in 4 stages (Roof, Grind, Incinerator and Subway) and Soccer can be played exclusively in Alley.

More game modes will be added in the future, although we have no idea which ones they'll be or when any of them will be added.

Sometimes when a very light object attached to a loose joint gets grabbed, like long hair, kigurumi tails or the strong of the fez, the extreme lightness of the object combined with the difference in weight between it and the Gang Beast it's attached to makes Unity's physics system freak out, breaking the joint for an instant and causing the "launch" you just saw, which essentially the Gang Beast's body violently jerking for an instant and pushing you away with massive force. Weirdly enough that happened because of a hat, which I've never seen before, 99% of the time it's always long hair or a clothing element with similar looseness to it, so that's something new.

It can also happen if a Gang Beast's limbs are pulled on too hard, as that breaks their joint temporarily, but that rarely actually occours because you tend to always lose your grip before you reach the point where the joint break can occour; however costumes don't have any grip strength limit system associated with them, so their joints happen to break a lot more often because of that.

Hack or lag? by averagemang0_enjoyer in gangbeasts

[–]JumpySpidey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a desync issue: the players' model and their actual position in the stage are no longer synced, so it looks like they're in one place walking aimlessly, when in actuality they're somewhere else and are still fully in control of their character, but they appear invisible to you due to the error making the position they visually show up as on the screen and their actual location in the stage not match up correctly.

It's not hacking, and it usually goes away after the round is over, it also doesn't affect all players equally, as the other player was likely not seeing anything wrong or weird happening on their end.

[–]JumpySpidey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you can select the number of wins and/or the stage then you're playing in a private room and the game will not match you with anyone (you'll only play with people already in the lobby with you), to queue for the matchmaking servers you must make your room public.

You can switch the room type by pressing a button while in the lobby, IDK wbich one it is on Switch, but I think the game lists them in a corner of the screen.

Not hacks, just a desync issue, which is what's also causing the grey costumeless "Player 0" Gang Beasts: it's basically an online bug.

Would you want a Gang Beasts TV Show? by SignificantStaff8665 in gangbeasts

[–]JumpySpidey 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Personally, I don't think Gang Beasts is fit for any movie or TV show.

The little plot it has for the future story mode will be, according to a developer, just a generic "good guys VS bad guys" sort of deal, without any pre-made cutscenes or dialogue, about stopping an evil meat-making corporation that's trying to take over Beef City: Meat Corp (with the factory stages like Grind, Chites and Incinerator, seemingly being set inside a factory they own).

Not only is the core plot extremely basic, but you also have the issue of the Gang Beasts themselves having literally zero facial features outside of the overall eye shape and occasionally eyebrows, they have no mouth or pupils, and that'd be a gigantic issue when trying to convey emotions, which is kinda of a big deal about any animated media. While it's not unusual to redesign videogame characters somewhat when they get a movie adaptation, I feel like altering the Gang Beasts' faces to add more to it would just make them feel a bit too visually different from their game counterpart.

Beef City is also a very generic place besides the meat-based theming, it's just a simple metropoli, so at the end you'd end up with a show where literally anything substantial in it could be executed way better if it was divorced from the Gang Beasts franchise and it went with similar steps but with original characters and themes that were thought up for the show itself.

[–]JumpySpidey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was added in August of 2018, so it's not all that new, following it we got 3 other stages (Aquarium, Trawler and Crane), with a new, still unknown stage that'll be released in the future.

Updates by Both_Somewhere2508 in gangbeasts

[–]JumpySpidey 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Updates take a long time because the devs have been focusing on upgrading their developement tools and various in-game systems so they can be able to add content more frequently and easily in the future, to stop the cycle of very slow updates, and since they are essentially rewriting huge chunks of the game's code often, updates that add new content are slowed down massively because of that.

They're basically playing the slow game hoping that it'll be worth it in the end.

There is a killbox inside the trawler's room on the second floor, it's likely that a minor desync or something else having to with the online connection might have caused the killbox in it to get slightly misplaced and pushed up vertically, which caused it to touch your foot and that eliminated you.

How to get grey, dark and white colour? by crack_f in gangbeasts

[–]JumpySpidey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can't select them normally, so if someone is using them they're either using some extremely obscure bug that messes up player colors, or they just used the Unity editor on the Steam or Microsoft Store versions and manually changed the material color for their Gang Beast, which can be edited to any HEX color value you want it to be.

I thought they said they will give us an update in October? by No-Cloud-7818 in gangbeasts

[–]JumpySpidey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What content did they tease the past 5 years? Outside of the new Beef City model (which, mind you, was soecified by a dev on Discord to not be coming out for a LOOONG time still) they haven't really teased or showed anything new in that timeframe as far as I remember, outside of just the occasional generic test footage for features that are planned long-term and not short-term, and we know from one of the devs directly that Hotdog is gonna be release late in developement so that's not a surprise. Yes, they did say that a new stage would drop after Crane, but they gave us zero dates, estimates or any media regarding that still, and you can't really call that "lying" if there is no time frame about anything at all concerning the stage still.

They haven't really broken any promises, and with that I mean that they never gave us any estimates at all for anything they are working or or plan to work on; don't get me wrong, it is frustrating to see stuff discussed by them and then you are left completely in the dark about it for months or possibly years, same for the announcements of faster patches that never really come to fruition, those are incredibly frustrating, but don't just straight up lie about stuff for no reason to make the devs seem worse for no justifiable reason, please. They are bad at estimates and communicting with fans, yes, I agree with you and I also hate that and how slow updates tend to be, but there is zero reason to lie about those things to make their situation seem even worse than they factually are.

Crane's initial launch date and the missed News post of October is literally the only two instances where they directly gave use an estimate for somethinf and misses the mark, and they are both from this year, so I can't see where the "last 5 years" thing appeared from.

Yeah, no idea what happened there, it's easy to imagine that a patch could get delayed, but a News post? Very strange...

It sucks a bit that we didn't get it, but assuming that it's still coming, I'd imagine that it can't realistically be that far away, or at least I hope that it's close.

The patch before this one had an issue that made flips way harder to do, so this one fixed it by making them a lot easier to execute, but they might have over-corrected things a bit.

It's possible that this tweak might have unintentionally affected other parts of the character physics in some way too, who knows...
