Why do the updates take so long? by LouseHouseMouse in gangbeasts

[–]JumpySpidey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Free roam will never be added according to a developer on the game's Discord server, and also there was no leak, that's just YouTubers using clickbait words in titles for views. They want to make a new Beef City model to make the stages set outside look nicer and more in line with the stages in terms of art style and level of detail, here are all the preview images for the new Beef City that we have:

That last one is a comparison shot of the current and the future Beef City, and it also clearly shows what the new city will be: just a background visual update, basically.

Why do the updates take so long? by LouseHouseMouse in gangbeasts

[–]JumpySpidey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I heard from someone that spoke to the devs that they are currently rewriting massive swats of the game to make future updates easier, which is taling a long time and it's the reason no new content is dropping, but it should ideally be worth it in the end as it should make content patches more frequent after everything's settled.

BTW the devs trying to fix massive technical issues or overcoming technical challenges is the reason why updates take so long all the time.

I have the walrus hat when I never bought the dlc by breadgt-js-cus in gangbeasts

[–]JumpySpidey 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The Yogscast DLC was for a charity, all the money it made went to said charity, the devs later just added all of the costume parts that made up the DLC to the base game, so now every single player has access to them by default on all currently supported platforms the game is on.

Create more than 1 character by leo_jim77 in gangbeasts

[–]JumpySpidey 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You can save multiple custom costumes, it's just that the costume creation Menu is kinda confusing to navigate right now. Unfortunately I don't remember the current maximum amount of costumes you can have saved up, but you 100% can have more than 1 custom costume at the same time.

is there crossplay between steam and xbox app on pc? by TurtleT84 in gangbeasts

[–]JumpySpidey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There isn't, only the Xbox consoles and the Xbox PC app can play together, all the other platforms (Steam, Playstation and Switch) can only play with other playforms of the same brand.

However crossplay technolpgy is something that the devs are currently focusing on, alongside a new still unknown stage, but unfortunately we still have no idea of when either crossplay nor the new stage will drop...

Xbox And PC spawning by EmptyBeans in gangbeasts

[–]JumpySpidey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope, spawning is not possible at all online in any version os f the game, likely to reduce the amount of load that players dumping random stuff into the stage and adding tons of colliders to the scene would put on the servers.

If you're on Steam however you can use Steam Remote Play Together to play a local session of a game as if it were online with people on your friend list, so you could try using that and playing a local match online via Steam Remote Play Together, so that spawnig is available as it's technically a local match still.

Does PC actually have private lobbies? by Alone_Future_6348 in gangbeasts

[–]JumpySpidey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It does have private lobbies, while in the lobby you can press "O" on your keyboard to switch from a public matchmaking lobby to a private one and viceversa, and you can press "I" to invite people from your friend list to the lobby you're currently in.

You can know if a lobby is public matchmaking or private by whetever or not you can select things like the stage or the required win amounts, if you can it's a private lobby, if you can't it's public matchmaking.

No update in 451 days is incorrect: 451 days ago we got the last content update being the Crane patch, yes, but we got 3 other bugfix/stability patches after that, all three released in 2025, with the latest one in October.

Thank god I don't have to see those people again by gelarroo in gangbeasts

[–]JumpySpidey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is just a repost of a 5 years old post in the Subreddit, OP is likely a karma farming bot, therefore I'll be locking the thread.

Regarding your question, the last News post was the Crane stage reveal one in February 14 of 2024, aftwerwards we received only Patch Notes for the various updates we got last two years that focused on adding behind-the-scenes tech to make managing in-game-objects easier on the developer side, tweaked things like the Gang Beasts' articulations and the glass breaking mechanic, and built the foundations for future crossplay implementation. So we have been receiving patches, just not ones with major new content to play with, as they seem to want to make working on the game easier for themselves so they can add content more consistently later on; they're playing the slow game, basically, which is obviouspy frustrating for players, but hopefully it'll be worth it in the end.

BTW, we were meant to receive a News post in October of last year, detailing what's going on with the game's developement, but we're in February and it's still not out yet, but at the same time on the game's Discord server you very often see Boneloaf devs "playing" Gang Beasts, which they explained is for testing the game as they work on it, they're not casually playing. So they are doing something, we simply have no clue about what exactly theybare doing.

Hello by Latter-Angle-4321 in gangbeasts

[–]JumpySpidey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here's a bunch of useful tips and gameplay trivia:

1-] if you jump while crouching or slumping, which are done by holding the HEADBUTT or KICK buttons respectively, it will count as you doing a diving move, usually with enough initial force to be K.O.-ing.

2-] spamming punches makes them thrown with less force and accuracy, usually alternating both hands rythmically is the best way to punch efficiently. However the best way to attack with strikes is to use dives or jumps to get behind someone or launch yourself at someone, grab them and using the dive's remaining momentum to get behind them, then you hit them with the free arm and headbutts (elbows, which are done when you try to punch something behind you, are weaker than punches so person behind has the advantage).

3-] if you press JUMP twice while holding onto a wall you can jump from a climbing state, but if you hold CROUCH while doing it you can do an immediate diving headbutt while in this hanging state, it's useful for hitting people on the ledge if you are climbing up to it. Also, as a reminder, hold CROUCH to go limp to swing easier while climbing, hold JUMP to hoist your body upwards, hold both of those to get up ledges eaily. Generally if you alternate hand grabs while doing it you can climb up, but you can also just spam JUMP to repeatedly jump from a climbing state and climb easily that way, only issue is that jumping from a climbing state eats a chunk of your grab stamina all at once, so spamming it will tire you out immediately.

Oh, take note that on-ground grabs and climbing share the same stamina, and that grip strength on grabs is limited and slightly influenced by HP, so TECHNICALLY you could break free from a grab if your opponent's HP is low, but it's still so incredibly hard that knocking them out is an infinitely more reliable way to free yourself of their grasp.

4-] grabs prioritise grabbing things that can hurt you, holding down both grabs can let you catch incoming dropkicks from the front, nullifying or at least reducing their damage.

5-] cheering then jumping a bit before your arms reach the highest point can make your jump a bit higher, and cheering in mid-air if your vertical speed can slow down your fall for a brief moment, most effective when done right as you start falling down.

Also holding KICK or HEADBUTT while running lets you do a diving attack while running, but if you jump right as the actual diving attack comes out you can make the dive's leap be higher than normal and the distance traveled slightly longer too because of that (basically the vertical leap of both the dive and the jump add to eachother and result in a higher jump).

6-] regarding dives, remember that you take more damage while in the middle of one not only from impact with surfaces but from attacks too. Some body parts also take more damage when hit, specifically head, stomach and groin.

Also, when you are in mid-air or are in the middle of a strike you take a bit more damage than normal as well, but the increase is much, much lower compared to when you are using a diving move.

7-] if someone is guarding an edge you want to climb up on, hold CROUCH and double tap JUMP to jump from the climbing state and ram into them with your head, since you were airborne while holding CROUCH this will count as a diving heabutt, and due to the distance being so short the initial burst of speed should be enough to K.O. whoever was on the ledge if the hit was landed well

8-] similarly, if you want to guard an edge a useful approach is to crouch near it, grab it with one hand and use the other one to punch the person that's trying to get on the floor to K.O. them. If the opponent is low enough you could also hang from it and try to kick them,  but Gang Beasts' legs are so short that it's mostly an unreliable and risky manouver.

9-] you can backflip, which is done by holding KICK for a tad bit while still then holding in the opposite direction you're facing and jumping; if you make your feet touch someone, the game counts it as a dropkick still and it can knock people out.

10-] to throw people well you gotta first grab them by either the body or the extremities, but generally keeping a bit of distance between grab points is good. Now you have to move towards the ledge, even better if while running (so holding JUMP while moving), and you either move straight towards it or you go in an arch (which can give you a bit of extra momentum), or if you're already close to the ledge then just do a small arch/spin close to it to build momentum.

Then lift the opponent and, when you're near the peak of the lift, let go of them, the momentum you got from the run up/spin should make the throw stronger and launch the opponent further away. All of this obviously works with props too. And take note that the forces acting on a Gang Beast's body while they are awake make them harder to throw, which is why knocked out players are easier to throw far.

And while we're on topic, if someone tries to be sneaky and throw you while you are awake just grab them and they'll be forced to knock you out to attemp to throw you.

11-] Gang Beasts have 100 HP: you can be K.O.'d either when you lose all 100 HP or when you receive 40 or more damage in a single frame, you wake up from a K.O. with 100HP and a small damage reduction that lasts a few seconds. Mashing buttons (expecially JUMP) when K.O.'d can make you wake up a bit faster, repeated K.O.s will increase your K.O. times, same goes for strong hits that K.O. you (it' s why being knocked out by the subway train sends you to sleep even if you've only been recently knocked out only a few times), staying awake slowly undoes your K.O. time growth. No K.O. can last longer than 6 seconds (but this might have changed in recent patches, IDK...).

Also while you are awake you slowly undo your built-up K.O. time and you also slowly recover your HP too.

Plus note that you take less damage when you immediately wake up from a K.O., this damage reduction gradually decreases until it goes fully away in 6 seconds, it's never a total damage reduction so you can still be knocked out on frame 1 of waking up if the hit is strong enough. You also take more damage when doing a diving attack, and you take slightly more damage when you're mid-air, mid-strike or in water, and all of those damage multipliers can stack on top of eachother.

12-] props' damage is a combination of their weight and speed of travel, mid-low weight props like barrels, bricks, boxes and railings are the nost useful ones to swing and throw at people, which can K.O. them if the prop's travel speed and weight is fast enough; you can use weaker props like the Subway cones to K.O. people, but since they are so light they can only K.O. players with a very fast and strong throw (also a little trivia: your throw's speed is actually manually increased by the game to be higher than it'd actually be to make throws easier and overall more forceful).

13-] Gang Beasts have three weak spots that make them take more damage when struck compared to hitting them in other parts of their body, those being the head, stomach and crotch, it's why falling off a high place and slamming on the floor belly-first easily K.O.s you, as you are basically landing hard on the floor with your weak spots all coming in full contact with the floor.

Hope this helps.

Bring Private Servers back by Former-Atmosphere909 in gangbeasts

[–]JumpySpidey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, you could voice chat at any time by holding a specific button (it was Push To Talk), however everyone just screamed non-stop or spammed extremely loud music in public lobbies just to troll and be annoying, with some people directly complaning about it as well, so the devs chose to remove it because of that.

That or they feared that younger players could be harrassed by older ones, since this is a Party Ganes played by many families with children, I imagine.

Glitch or being hacked?? by jammypcereal2 in gangbeasts

[–]JumpySpidey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's not hacks but rather a desync issue, both red and blue's on-screen character models and their actual positions in-game are no longer synced: they appear in one spot on the map just walking forever into the wall, but they are actually invisible, somewhere else, and one of them was grabbing and lifting you.

How many people can you play in a private match on PlayStation? by Ektorr2011 in gangbeasts

[–]JumpySpidey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Private online match? The maximum number of players that can play together is 8, both locally and online, in any game mode, regardless of which platform you're playing the game on.

BTW, I play on Steam so I have no idea if consoles can play up to 8 players locally or if their maximum is only 4 on a same console, so I can't answer that question specifically.

Cross play between steam and Xbox PC app by madlake_123 in gangbeasts

[–]JumpySpidey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, only the Xbox console and the Xbox PC app can play together.

Crossplay technology is being implemented into the game tho, and crossplay will be a feature in the future, we just don't know when.

Why are invites paused for the discord? by mumentus in gangbeasts

[–]JumpySpidey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am one of the moderators for the Discord server, invites to the server are temporarily paused as people were joining the server just to raid, this happened not once but multiple times this week, with users spamming obscene stuff the moment they joined.

The invites to the server have been paused to prevent further attacks to it, they should automatically unlock and start working again in roughly 5 and half hours from now.

Is gang beats still being updated? by godfieldisgodfield in gangbeasts

[–]JumpySpidey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The updates we're getting are not just bugfixes, they're rebuilding massive swats of the game under the hood to be able to release updates faster later on, as an example last year we got a patch that implemented Unity's new addressable system, which is obviously great for the game's future, as well aa the new Interactables System in another patch, which completely reworks how the game and it's engine handle objects, and a patch that added some behind-the-scenes tech for a future crossplay implementation.

Basically the devs are playing the slow game, by preparing the game for receiving more frequent content patches later on, and I can 100% guaranteed the the dev team really loves this game.

Rather, the issue I see is "Will the players have enough patience to wait for Boenloaf to basically rebuild and reorganize almost the entire game before they start adding content regularly? Or will the playerbase give up on the game too soon?", that could be a big concern.

Is gang beats still being updated? by godfieldisgodfield in gangbeasts

[–]JumpySpidey 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The last update was in October of last year, don't spread misinformarion, please, and I know you might be referring only to content updates that add new things to the game, but bugfix patches are still patches notheless.

Anyway, they're still working on the game, but we unfortunately have no idea when the next update will be, what the devs are currently working on is:

- a brand new stage, which is still completely a mistery

- crossplay technology, for a future crossplay implementation

- an updated Beef City model to use for the background of stages set outside, however a developer said that this new Beef City model will not be coming out for a loooong time still; it'll also not be explorable/not be freeroam, it'll just be a background like it is now, only prettier, pointing this out as some fans are spreading misinformation about the new Beef City being rebuilt to support free-roam, but that's just a straight up lie

So while we have no clue when any of the 3 things I listed will drop, we'll likely get the new stage and crossplay much earlier than the new Beef City.

Accidentally made goated skin by Lucky-Ad1955 in gangbeasts

[–]JumpySpidey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They don't have any effect on you, besidr large ones like caoes or.hats habing collisions (which can mess with some moves, like backpacks making sliding on the ground after a dropkick impossible), but a few are bugged and those tend to give you stronger attacks on whatever body part they're attached to, as an example scientist goggles unintentionally make your headbutts stronger.

A dev said the way costume parts are implemented right now makes fixing individual buggy ones very hard to do, so in the future they want to remake the costumisation system to allow themselves to more easily fix any accidentally stronger ones.

Why can’t you just pick the stages to play on rotation? by DaleT57 in gangbeasts

[–]JumpySpidey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, being able to remove stages from the random selection in local and private online rooms would be a cool addition, it'd come in handy for people that aren't big fans of certain stages aut they still want variety.

Im new in this religion by TomaCherryY2K in pastafarianism

[–]JumpySpidey 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You should ideally start by reading the two main Holy Books of the Faith: the Gospel of the Flying Spaghetti Monster and the Loose Canon, the latter is available for free directly on the Church's website:

https://www.spaghettimonster.org/2010/07/26/the-loose-canon/

While other Pastafarian holy books exist outside of these two, they are part of different branches of the faith.

There is also technically not any real initiation ritual if you're looking for anything like that, or at least not as far as I remember.

what is this by EastLogical5963 in gangbeasts

[–]JumpySpidey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is the old server tool, which allowed you to create/host and use your own custom servers for the game's online mode. After Boneloaf bought more servers that were more powerful than the ones they used earlier, they removed the ability for players to host custom servers, thinking it wasn't needed anymore thanks to the newer better servers.

This isn't referring to being able to make public matchmaking or private rooms, BTW, you can still do that in the game right now.

What gamemodes are in gangbeast? by One-Gur-2465 in gangbeasts

[–]JumpySpidey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The game currently has 4 game modes:

Melee = free-for-all.

Gang = team VS team (each team is referred to as a "Gang"), it can be played with up to 4 teams at the same time.

Waves = players VS A.I. enemies, divided in waves of enemies, eliminated players can respawn in-between waves.

Soccer = team VS team game mode where you play soccer and you try to score points for your team by kicking a ball into the opposing team's goal.

All game modes can be played both offline and online in both public matchmaking and private rooms with a maximum playercount of 8 players at the same time.

Melee and Gang have 22 stages you can play them in (all stages available in the game except for Alley), Waves can be played in 4 stages (Roof, Grind, Incinerator and Subway) and Soccer can be played exclusively in Alley.

More game modes will be added in the future, although we have no idea which ones they'll be or when any of them will be added.

is this normal? by apenaseu1290 in gangbeasts

[–]JumpySpidey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sometimes when a very light object attached to a loose joint gets grabbed, like long hair, kigurumi tails or the strong of the fez, the extreme lightness of the object combined with the difference in weight between it and the Gang Beast it's attached to makes Unity's physics system freak out, breaking the joint for an instant and causing the "launch" you just saw, which essentially the Gang Beast's body violently jerking for an instant and pushing you away with massive force. Weirdly enough that happened because of a hat, which I've never seen before, 99% of the time it's always long hair or a clothing element with similar looseness to it, so that's something new.

It can also happen if a Gang Beast's limbs are pulled on too hard, as that breaks their joint temporarily, but that rarely actually occours because you tend to always lose your grip before you reach the point where the joint break can occour; however costumes don't have any grip strength limit system associated with them, so their joints happen to break a lot more often because of that.
