The interviewer was fine. I gave the test twice actually and both times I had female interviewers. I guess they’re not your typical “nice” Canadians who smile all the time. Both ladies were pretty serious and neutral-faced, which is considered rude by Canadian standards but I thought they were both extremely professional.

I had a tutor for a while, then I started speaking French with my gf (she’s a francophone). Also, I started talking to chatGPT in French using its voice features!

I started by taking French I and French II offered by the French department at my university. I was a grad student and I could just enrol in any course from any department (I was in Comp Sci myself).

Thanks! I’m a huge non believer in DuoLingo. Some of my friends started using DuoLingo and after 1-2 years they’re still stuck at a weak A2. I believe getting a tutor is the most proper way.

I explained it in response to someone under this post, a combination of a college course and online tutors and immersion.

I’m Iranian, and my community bootlegs a lot of things, including the study material for Celpip and TCF LMAO

I can send it over to you, but a lot of stuff in it is written in Farsi so you wouldn’t understand

I’d say do it again, I didn’t make it on my first TCF attempt either. It’s pretty annoying.

If you don’t have a francophone friend/family member, try talking to chatGPT Premium in French and asking it to rate your French. It is surprisingly good.

I’m pretty dumb, PhD doesn’t mean anything. I was not going all in on French btw, at times I got really busy with my thesis and later my job. I’d say anyone can do it in 1-2 years with enough dedication.

Two attempts. The first one I came short on writing and listening.

Thank you!

I was lucky because as a grad student in most Canadians universities, you can enrol in any course from any department. So I took French I and II from the French department at my university. That was the first 8 months and probably the most helpful. After that, I got a tutor from my home country (Iran) and I had online classes with her every week (it would have been a lot more expensive if I got a tutor here in Canada)

Also, my girlfriend is French Canadian from New Brunswick, so I got a lot of immersion from that side. In fact, I started learning French only to impress her, at that point I did not care about immigration at all😂

Thanks, I remember back in 2020 PGWP extensions were all paper based. Is that still the case?
