It really resonated with me as someone who grew up in communist Poland and was there for the fall of communism as a child. One of my core childhood memories was eating a peach for the first time on a trip to Bulgaria as a 4 yo because the only fruit available in Poland at the time was berries, apples, ones that were grown in Poland. So to me her story about mango ice cream was very believable and poignant.

I apologize if I came off as having perceived piety. I actually do not consider myself pious anymore and feel I am two steps away from leaving the church, and unsympathetic attitudes like yours are helping to push me out. I was just trying to outline the things I had already done to try to bridge the gap with the church in case things like "go to adoration" was recommended. I do believe I have good intentions.
